Great video! Luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel,Hermes , Gucci and Goyard does not recognise Wevat so the original method of paper vat refund process is still needed when buying luxury items.

I'm not sure I understand luxury brands not recognizing Wevat. The only thing Wevat requires from the store is for a fracture to be made with their name on it. Is there further processing where a store can choose to deny the refund of VAT?

"facture" is right! I worked for years at a department store in Nice, and used to direct tourists to the customer services where they could get their tax refund facture. Didn't even think that the UK was eligible now we're out of the EU... Little silver linings! Thanks for explaining all this, Lara!

We’ve just got back from Disneyland Paris and we claimed our tax back on all good that we bought back to the UK. (No food or drink though) It was a very easy process. Kept all receipts over 3 days and they processed the form in City Hall (in DLP) Then at the airport, scanned the form on the machine at the Tax refund desk. Got £24 back on my credit card within a week 🙌 well worth it!

Hi! I have a Q: I’m from the UK and looking to buy a watch in France (£3000). The brand is offering a 12% tax free refund. On the UK gov it says any goods need to be declared and if over £390, 20% VAT needs to be paid. So essentially I would be getting a 12% refund but paying 20% on top of original price. Seems pointless ? Have I miss interpreted this? 390£ seems very very low ?! Thank you to anyone with any info on this!

In reality they don't do checks all that often at all on the UK side. You could simply wear the watch and put the original box in your suitcase (just don't walk around with the fancy branded bag from the shop - you're asking for it then). Alternatively, you could wear the watch and mail the box back to your UK address if you're scared.

I'd love a follow up video with this once you've gone! Seems complicated (the rules) but I didn't know about this!

I will do! I think explaining it might make it seem harder than it actually is if that makes sense! Let’s hope I get to go so I can show you in real time! Thanks for watching Xx

I believe they do take 20% of your refund as a fee. It really is not that hard to do yourself, just do a bit of research before you go so you know what you need and what to do and get the full 100% refund as you say 20% soon adds up. All the information on how to do it is easily available online.

Actually, there isn't a DIY solution to this. If you stick with the traditional way of doing it at the shop, the intermediary company takes a even steeper fee.

    I have a Q:
    1. Is the VAT refund rate better when compared to scanning the physical bills and dropping of at kiosks?
    2. Whats the processing time for wevat? Did anyone get their refund through the ap

I do live in England but I'm originally from Germany and we had visitors from outside the EU and they didn't need to pay the tax in the shops as they are not german and going back to their country. So no fuss there.

So traditionally you scan in France to claim your VAT refund, do you have to declare anything when you get back into the uk?

Thanks for the tips! Any way to claim
VAT after coming back from a trip? I live in the US and was in the UK at the end of March. I didn’t realize I could claim VAT until now. Is it still possible to get my refund?
