Hi Kay, thank you for this nice remembrance of my childhood, there are only some issues: my mother used to steam the Böckelkohl (broccoli), cut the Frankfurter, that they look like a starfish (cut them in half and then cut it quarters but letting the end hold them together), browning onions in butter separately afterwards in the same pan, and serving them with mash (potatoes, a bit of celeriac root and a small carrot, milk). Before this meal we has had a broccoli soup made out of the stem and the trimmings of the broccoli.
Maybe I come from the eastern part of nowadays Germany, we has had always a soup before the main dish. After the dish we was allowed to drink. It was always said, don’t drink before you have eaten. As drink we mostly has had some kind of juice mixed with water. Then came the dessert: fruits from the season in spring and summer and Kompott (preserved fruits) in winter.
Most fruits and vegetables came from the garden and in communist times it was always a challenge to get good seeds. The adults always spoke about to get good seeds and how to make the soil for gardening, which was more interesting at family gatherings than speaking about politics, because you can never know who is standing on which side.
Keep on cooking and learning and sharing your cooking with us.
My always tells us, you don’t need to overcook because we have refrigerators nowadays. Overcooking this is a cooking technique in the times as we hasn’t had refrigerators. She was so happy as we got our first refrigerators in our household and her food tasted better. She was overviewing all receipts of her foremothers to adapt it to the modern times.

Ok Kay as a Brit/German please dont claim this to be a german meal. First no german would ever add broccoli to Bockwurst or Frankfurters, second we dont add Gravy to anything resembling this. Frankfurters are for heating on hot water, bratwurst is for frying in a pan and we dont add onion. Good job though cooking Broccoli pretty well.

Kay, you can peel a broccoli stem and eat it or use it in your recipe.
Try steaming your broccoli instead of boiling it.
Smash steamed broccoli and add one egg, bread crumbs, spices, salt and mix until you can make balls .
Put more oil in the pan for onion and sausages to cook properly until they are brown.
    It is called Maillard reaction.
Then strain that oil and use it in your next recipe.
Use it to fry broccoli balls.
    Enjoy

Mix with your favorite spices, salt and little bit of oil or even better butter.
Pour a cup of water on the bottom.
Cover with a lid or aluminum foil.
Bake at 220 Celsius for 30 minutes.
Uncover, mix and let it cook for 30-60 minutes stirring it every 10 minutes.

Kay I’d be delighted for you to make my girlfriend and my favourite meal. Mangers and bash, our fun little modern take on the classic bangers and mash.
Firstly, get 1-7 Richmond sausages (depends how hungry you and Lee are lol!) you then must run a very sharp kitchen knife down the side of the sausage to cut the skin.
Next squeeze out the “bash” (the sausage meat) and make it into a mash shaped pile. Yes I know it’s still raw 😂
Next you want to slide your bash off the plate and into some boiling water (do not forget to put salt and pepper into the water) boil the bash until it is fully cooked and holds its shape.
    Now for the “mangers” !!
Get some mashed potato (just smooshed up boiled potato will do) and add 4 tablespoons of butter or margarine
Now add flour until it becomes a dough and you can shape it with your hands.
Lastly make the potato dough into the shape of sausages and fry them in a bit of oil in a pan like you would do a normal sausage.
Serve to Lee whilst it’s still nice and hot because it’s not as good when it’s gone cold.
Thank you Kay!! We love you, keep being you ❤️❤️

I am from Germany and this comes pretty close to one of my favourite comfortmeals! We usually use grilled sausages or "Bratwurst" aka Nürnberger for it and green peas aside (allthough Sauerkraut is even more popular in this dish) Great Video!😊

Love you, Kay. I hope you are having a fantastic weekend. I am not a huge fan of broccoli but I know it is good for me so I try to let my brain trick me into thinking I love it; so I eat it too. Hugs to you, Kay. nice to see another video.
