The Green Tunnel podcast is an excellent resource for the history of the Appalachian Trail. They talk about Myron Avery and Benton McKay. Worthwhile listening for sure! Anyway! So excited to see you here! Happy trails!
Thanks for sharing. Appalachian trail start looks great, except for the crowds. That has been a turn-off for me - the crowded areas of the Appalachian trail. It prevents me from going to those areas
I section hike along the AT in the GA - VA area each April, so right in the bubble. The only place where I notice crowds is at road crossings if there’s Trail Magic and at the shelters. Along the actual trail though, it’s not bad at all. Nobody is really coming SOBO this far south this early in the season (talking thru, not dayhikers) and, as everyone is walking, folks stay spaced out relative to each other’s pace. Keep in mind that a large percentage of wanna-be thrus don’t make it past Neel Gap.
I don't think I caught you in time but I always suggest people stay @ the Hike Inn in lieu of the hotel. It gets you started and it is a super cool place. I'm not good at pacing either, I have one speed. So when I'm climbing, sometimes I suffer. You'll have no shortage of hang spots....Welcome to the South Bro !
From the Arch to Neels Gap in 2 days is pretty impressive for a "Flatlander!" No starting off slow for you! After seeing your training video, I'm not totally surprised! Great teaser for the next one!
I like the speed of your videos. No nonsense just straight to it. It’s a beautiful journey so enjoy it. We don’t need to see every overlook or your steps. ❤️
Been on these sections I prefer to go late winter almost no people but during the spring when the season starts I don't stay near shelters too crowded great hike though
Nice work! I just ordered a pair of those Cascadia as my recent pairs of Altras get trashed too soon. How was the break in period on those for you? They appear a bit narrow.

Great video! I'll be watching for the next.
The pizza lady looked a lot like Hawks girlfriend Katie. I don't know, I watch so many of these AT videos.

@@andymytys Yes at least you miss the SOBO thru hiking crowd
You could do it in that winter and avoid the crowds all together, it’s much colder but not super cold.

I hope someday you can find your way to the Whites and Maine. You’re doing a great job and making miles.
Ama-ca-lola.
Thazri!
Fantastic. Looks like fun.
I agree 100% about climbing a hill vs stairs. I abhor steps.
Oh and most ppl don't know but if you kick it down slaughter Creek trail less than a mile you can camp in a no bear canister spot...

Mountain Outfitters used to be a ranger station for my understanding
Awesome! Can't wait to follow this whole journey. So happy for you getting to do this journey. Crow
You look like you’re in the best shape of your TH-cam life.
Nice video to wake up to. I’ve been eagerly anticipating this video series.
Don’t know a guy like that…..Rob Pelton???🤷♂️🤷♂️

Oh hey. Great vid! Getting big AT miles in right off the get go! Atta kid.
I have been waiting for this!
Wondering why you bothered with a hang tag. I always thought those were just for hopeful thru-hikers, not section hikers.
Nope. They told me to get one.

Benton-ma-kie
Is that near Little Rock? 😜
You just can’t train people that’s not from here! Believe me I try. But what gets me is Appalachian with the long A. Come on people.
