FYI, those bushes you were going through are rhododendron. They'll be gorgeous once they bloom :) I hope all that happened was that they saw the size of the Walnut shelter so decided to just get a tiny bit more mileage to a potentially better location. Then realized that wouldn't work to fit all of you and pushed to the next. Definitely a benefit of getting somewhere earlier. But I can totally understand the frustration and emotional hit of having a plan, pacing yourself to fit the plan, then suddenly you have to add another few miles on top.
Absolutely so frustrating but it all worked out in the end:) thank you!!! I had no idea what those were called! Being from the west coast, more than half the things I see daily I’ve never seen before in my life!
Before we set out in the morning we agree on an end point and then hike our own hike. Mainly just text messages when we do have service but I haven’t really needed to communicate with them a bunch. We also all have roughly the same hiking pace so some of the time I’ll pass them on a snack break or at a shelter for a lunch break:)
Them hiking further last minute may be them trying to ditch you, no offense. It happens. People change up plans last minute to make space between them and other hikers. It happens all the time, and if that’s the case, you shouldn’t take it personally.

That’s a very sweet thing to say:)
Just curious, how are you communicating with your Tramily on trail? Inreach Mini message, or cellphone texts? Thanks

It happens, but most likely because the shelter was small ,and no tent sites.✌🏼
Yes it does happen but I was honored that they texted me to update me which means they do in fact enjoy my company. Even if I don’t think they do lol
