These were always meant to be placeholder lines they grabbed from a sample cd, I think despite Charles being in a couple of previous smaller Mario games he wasn’t set to be the voice until he auditioned for 64
For whatever reason, I prefer the cartoony voice and textures. The voice makes Mario more of a funny character and the old textures made the game really pop.
I like how this is an actual attempt at restoring the beta content shown off in the various Shosinkai demos and not yet another "every copy is personalized" creepypasta hack. I'm legit VERY sick of those. XD
The only mod that makes the fov change in the lobby like that is B3313 1.0V abandoned, along with the "no no no no no!" in the title screen. He could've easily clipped him going through the back door and replacing it with him exiting a door that lead him to the caste's court.
That tends to be the trend of many 90s games and projects, especially early 90s. I think part of that comes from just how new 3D was, so experimentation was off the rails.
Because it's always interesting to see how the games we love used to be totally different and give perspective at what design choices were made during development
@@nintendorakyamato1859 Oh, you use an HDMI and an upscaler, on my N64 i use the 3 original output cables without adaptater (my console is PAL, i don't know if the qualtity of the screen change beacause comparated to NTSC the FPS and the resolution of the screen is not the same) PAL is 16,7 more time slower than NTSC and if we play on a modern screen with a PAL console the screen have littles horizontal bars (they are actualy displayed beacause we can play NTSC games on NTSC format on a PAL console and in inverted way (by a modded/Flash cartridge or modified console).
Better than the actual market release. I have noticed that the older video games pre-retail versions were VERY OFTEN better than their reatil releases. It also refers to Sonic 1 (1991), SMB1 (1985), SMW (1990), Gen 3 Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire (2002) and many, many other games. Why the betas were OFTEN better than retail releases in the past?
Several factors. Often it's because it's just not the case, people just like to see something different about a game they are already familiar about. Here we can see that they weren't able to make stairs in Mario 64 during the beta which is why you have to jump... But it feels less like a castle, and it's less friendly. It's a good change. The Twomp Face is a texture of way better quality in the final release. The game in general is way more colorful than the beta. Other times, it's because of balancing, the Mario 64 team was really against a final balancing on Mario 64 that made the game way easier. This is why you have stuff like triple fire breather replaced with only two.. That kind of stuff. The Luigi's Mansion had to be balanced to make the game longer and more understandable so it can't be as messy as the beta map ( which was more a demo ) and with so many false door... The balancing can be visual too ! The planets in Sonic Marble Zone is cool but it's also messy visually. You will like this answer better ( because the two first reasons are basically "devs are right and you are wrong", nobody like hearing that ) but at the time, you had to be VERY careful with your memory, i suspect it is why a lot of stuff from Super Mario World wasn't used... Look at those tube shark, they were enormous ! So a lot of thing could be cutted because making them works properly would take too much space. Also, in general, "we won't be able to finish to debug that stuff" is the answer for a lot of cutted elements, the ball in Sonic 1 is funny but it's also really buggy, and you don't want the first interaction of the player being with a strange thing that they don't understand. You also have to make a level that fit with a particular element. Mario World seemed to have a very motivated graphist but i suspect a lot of element and enemies wasn't as interesting as it seemed at first glances. It's like the very big "banzai bill", they are cool "once" but you can't do an entire level around it, contrary to stuff like the "+" plateforms. Maybe a lot of stuff from Beta Mario World were replaced by something else so even if we had that cool aviator Mario we wouldn't have that cooler cape mechanic ! And finally, people mix up "beta" and "planned". There is really nothing much that was on the beta of Super Mario Bros that we didn't had in the end... But they DID planned Mario flying in the sky, Donkey Kong Jr vine or other element like this. It wasn't integrated because of time constraint, it was never in the "beta". In the case of Mario Flying in the sky, i suspect the absence of horizontal and vertical scrolling at the same time would have made it not satisfying anyway. TL;DR : Because devs though the final look was better, because devs wanted to balance the game, because they had to be careful with memory or they knew they wouldn't have the time to finish debugging the feature or preferred developed something that is actually in the final release but wasn't planned during the beta..... Or it just wasn't implemented at all and just planned.
@@Haganeren What a thoughtful and well written comment! You summed up my thoughts better than I ever could! I truly think the thought of a slightly different version of a classic is what makes beta versions so interesting. Looking at the big picture, the final version of Mario 64 is definitely more polished and clean looking. It's just interesting to see something so many of us grew up on in a fresh light. While logically it makes sense that cut content was cut because it wasn't working out, it's fun to fantasize about what we never got to experience. Multiplayer Super Mario 64 has been the dream of many kids, to the point it was debated whether or not Luigi was in the game for years. On a slightly unrelated note, are we sure that none of the described cut features from the original Super Mario Bros were actually in the beta version? I've tried looking awhile back, but info about the prototype is shockingly scarce for such an influential game.
