    Holy shit a gear review channel that doesn’t talk, demos multiple guitar/pickups and amps with time stamps? Maybe god does exist.

      Sonic Drive Studio Sonic Drive Studio I dunno maybe at the end? Just don’t break up the demo clips with talking about the gear I guess. Like I know what guitars are made out of and I know what knobs do, I think most people just care how it sounds. Bothers me to no end when someone explains a pedal to me or takes 5 mins to tell me what wood an electric guitar is made out of. Text on the screen like you do is great.
      One thing I don’t see anyone do is pickups with different amps/speaker combos. What I would do is build a library of riffs played with different pickups recorded direct in, then grab a re amping device so I could rapidly bank amp/speaker combos.

      Sonic Drive Studio oh in case you weren’t already aware Mesa puts their own voicing on their V30s so maybe demo Mesa cabs as well.

      @@SonicDriveStudio To me this a very good and clever way to review. Lots of work behind and I (we all, I guess) thank you very much for your efforts!
      Maybe a brief comment at the end about your personal preference. That is nice to hear I think.
      And it is allways difficult to tell from TH-cam but Brent Hinds and Jim Root sounds quite similar (except Natural channel). Am I right?

    The Rocker 15 Terror used with a Naga Viper treble booster is truly a match made in heaven, I couldn't be happier with this combination, drive at 3 o clock and a talisman plate reverb pedal is the icing on the cake.

    The dark terror en OR15 have the best high gain sound imo. Awesome video and awesome editing!

    For me the best sound are the Jim Root, has more low ends and clarity in each note with tone of gain, it’s incredible, even better than a Mesa wow !!

    Dark terror for the win. I guess not in this video, but with an eq pedal in the fx loop pushing the mids, its a beast for modern metal. That, and not passing 12 o clock on the shape knob to avoid fizziness and scoopnes, if its make sense. Sorry for my english Suscribed!!

      I agree, the darkterror sounds much better then portrayed in the video (that's not a shot at the channel, the video is awesome!). The dark terror also has the most tasty cleans IMO. I'm not a huge fan is when it's low gain though. Other than that, DT all the way.

    Fantastic comparison. I had an orange micro dark. I sold it to get the Marshall DSL1 head and cabinet. I then spent weeks trying to get it to sound like an Orange. I have now ordered the Rocker 15 and will most likely sell the Marshall as soon as I get it. Moral of the story is if you have something you dig, keep it.

      I have one an it's my favorite rock and roll tone but I have been needing an 🍊 orange tube Amp as I've got the Battery power crush 3 and like it another but needs harmonic content with chime/ grind is what I call it, so any way I got an OR15 head unit brand new for $430 believe it or not.

    I thought the tiny terror sounded best here along with Dual terror but they are all pretty similar except the Dark Terror which is for heavy styles it sounds like and the OR15 had more sizzle which reminded me of a pedal or something but still cool. I sold my OR15 after back to back comparisons with my Tiny Terror. I thought the Tiny Terror sounded more vintage and natural and the OR15 with its sizzle maybe a modern vintage if that makes sense. It has slightly less mids than the tiny terror I think but not like the Dark Terror which takes it too far for my tastes. The Jim Root is somewhere in there close to the tiny and dual but with a slightly different mid maybe more mid which I like. I have to check that one out as it sounded really good on the leads. Rocker 15 sounded very nice too. I liked the cleans a lot. I need to check that one out as well.

    I really like your videos man but I have one objection and it is not just you.
    Using load boxes and IRs pretty much levels the differences.
    Yes I know, that, it can produce similar to same (with extra processing or eq) results to a miced amp etc and having the isolation from room is a godsend (especially if the room does not help) but it disrupts the connection with the speaker.
    Is it so crucial? Well to me yes. Because the speaker itself is a magnet that when moving produces current and pumps it back to the amplifier. That is filtered by the pressence/ressonance controls and is there even when those controls don't exist on an amp. It is called negative feedback and it affects the character, gain level, attack, tightness and stability of the amp especially when the power amp and speaker interact (meaning, some volume). On super hi volumes, available gain in this feedback loop becomes minimal and it stops behaving as I described (which means that when you push an amp to its limits pressence and ressonance don't really do much and you hear guys complaining about that).
    That said, as every speaker is different impedance wise on different frequencies, its relationship with the power amp etc changes a bit.
    All of the above do mean that different amps through the same speaker (or the same through different speakers) becomes a whole new "system". And you take this out of the equation when using a loadbox (even reactive ones). IRs, suffer from bass being handled differently as well but, eq correction etc.
    Still, my main gripe is that pretty much, you input amps into IRs via loadbox you pretty much are at the mercy of the IR for the end result.
    I would love to hear this video with actual recordings if you can, via the same mic and cab even if it is not as polished or good sounding.
    The playing and tone of this video, though is superb. So great job man. Even if it doesn't take that loop thing into account lol.

    • @81giorikas
      @81giorikas 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh and some amps don't have this negative feedback loop at all. I don't know if this is true for the terror line of amps. Most of them have the same power amp.
      I can't feed a line going back from a transformer tap to the PI in the schematic from a quick glance so the tiny terror may be an open loop. The others I would like to see the schematics though.

    • @SonicDriveStudio
      @SonicDriveStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@81giorikas thanks for your feedback. On this channel you won't hear or see any real mic'ed up cabs anytime soon for a couple of reasons. Main reason being that I don't have the luxury of blasting a real cab for an extended period of time where I work, especially not at really loud levels. Also, I just prefer the workflow of a loadbox and IR's. Is it a different workflow than working with a real cab? Sure! It's just the way I choose to work and I LOVE it! I did try all the Orange amps through my Orange 2x12 multiple times and I have compared them side by side, the differences as presented in this video are pretty much the same as through my real cab. That's my personal experience/opinion though. Again, thanks for you feedback and for hanging around! Have a great day!

    this is super helpful! i really love the sound of the OR15, but having only one channel makes me really want to lean towards the Rocker 15 Terror. i play an 8 string guitar and while i'm not really looking for a high gain modern metal tone, i do wonder which amp would handle the lower frequencies with more clarity. the OR15 seems to have more warmth but i wonder if it would be more muddy when playing lower octave chords, compared to the Rocker 15 Terror. what do you think?

    Dual Terror or Rocker 15 for me

    • @alex.hart658
      @alex.hart658 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm split between these two and the OR15. I think it might just be the audio in this vid but the Dual Terror sounded a bit fizzy, and the Rocker 15 sounded fuller while also being high-gain.

    So, my main amp is a Rockerverb 100 MKIII and I LOVE IT! I'm looking for a good portable amp for a band in the vein of Teenage Bottlerocket (check 'em out!!). Which would you recommend?

    • @vladimirerfan7721
      @vladimirerfan7721 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jim Root terror is my bet. It's based of the Rockeverb MK II's preamp - the amp Jim uses.

      depends on the cab as well, but they are quite loud for practice at least. Live, they are either loud enough, or you mic up anyway

    I have the Brent Hinds. Its totally a different and unique orange. Very versatile but not for super high gain music, which is hard for me because I have to compensate with OD pedals.

    • @ozzlayer
      @ozzlayer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      BTW looks like the price of the Brent Hinds dropped to $599. I paid full price for mine in January.

    • @billgreen3629
      @billgreen3629 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @JCRS Thanks for that comment. I’m looking at Brent Hinds because it sounds a little more Marshally than the others and I’m specifically interested in lower gain.

    • @ozzlayer
      @ozzlayer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@billgreen3629 you will be satisfied with the BHT. Get an EQ pedal and place it in the fx loop to sculpt the clean channel.

    They are all great, i am actually saving for one, would have ti discard the ones without fx loops and the Jim Root because I wouldn’t find it anymore, then the or15 and dark terror are both amazing and I can find em both here in Mexico new and cheap, but the clean channel of the rocker 15 and Brent Hinds are a big plus, problem is I haven’t been able to find em here on Mexico and buying em online makes em almost 50% more expensive than the DT/or15

    Its always the same error that is announced in sucg video presentations and "tests": "I present you, how XY and Z sounds, so that you can judge, if its sound appeals to you!" - But this bases on a fundamental error: - An amp, that is presented here on TH-cam WILL NEVER SOUND IN A VIDEO PRESENTATION LIKE IT DOES AT Y O U R HOME, rehearsal room or studio, - there are multiple differences, that makes that impossible - even if you use the same guitar, same speaker cab, cables and effects: What YOU hear, is the BROADCASTED SOUND of the amp and gear in the recording setup of the video maker, mixed, eq'ed and compressed! - Its a complete other thing to use all this under YOUR INDIVIDUAL or "real private" conditions.
    That's the same cause, why you NEVER should buy an instrument or amp only because of the sound, that you heared, when you checked it only at the music store!! - if you like to get a reliable impression of this sound you"ve got to take it home for one day and test it under YOUR home or rehearsing room conditions! - If you for example only just use a different speaker system to the one YOU USE, an amp may sound IN A DRAMATICALLY OTHER WAY!! -
    So demonstration videos like the most that are produced for musicians here at YT are only valid in a very restricted way!! - Never count on the hope, the amp or instrument you are hearing at TH-cam will have the same sound, when you play it in YOUR home or rehearsal setting!! Its an approach - nothing more! You have to realise that!!

    Le mec arrive à essayer plusieurs têtes sans les brancher en les laissant en deco derrière lui mdr

      Ton commentaire fait pitié mec. Déjà tu prends pas la peine d'écrire dans la langue de youtube, tout ça pour dire de la merde sur un youtuber qui fait un travail génial de comparaison d'ampli. C'est un des rares à faire ça aussi bien... Tu jetteras un oeil à ses autres videos grâce auxquelles on peut comparer du peavey, du marshall, du orange...
      Ensuite, il t'est pas venu à l'esprit qu'il s'est filmé qu'une fois par piste et qu'il a pu faire ça sur plusieurs jours (ta remarque sur son t-shirt). Bref casser une démarche comme celle-là, avec des arguments aussi moisis, franchement tu ferais mieux de te taire.

    The Bret Hinds one sounds awesome... I just can't get past the "Brett hinds" and "mastodon" badging... Mastodon and all the nu-pop-christian-metal shit is frigging awful! I kinda quit listening to metal any newer than like Tool and Korn... It's just horrible...
    Thinking about buying both that and a rocker and swapping the covers and then selling the rocker....
