Another great video B-747 is the only aircraft I like to sit behind the wings to watch those massive flaps in action .
As reduced thrust at takeoff pilots simply overide the temperature to maximum permitted temperature settings where the aircraft automatically reduces the thrust to have less damage to the wear & tear of the engines

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Saud! Nice seeing you around!
I completely agree: behind the wing is the best on the B747.
And regarding the reduced thrust, you’re right but on the B747 not only can they “trick” the computer with higher temperatures but also set a default reduced take off setting, there are 3: TO, TO1 and TO2. These each have less thrust. Besides that you can also play with the temperature.
You gave me an idea to explain that on a video..!
See you around, and Ramadan Kareem if you’re celebrating.

Another great video. I am old enough to have flown Comets, Tridents, BAC 1-11 and classic 737s yet first 747 (Heathrow to Singapore) just over 30 years ago is still a fond memory (apart from the heavy turbulence across Europe !). The days there was only a cinema screen and the Pursar told you of the films. Also had the good fortune of being on the upper deck on a couple of occasions, which included an offer/visit to the flight deck over the Atlantic …. March 2001; different times 🥲 and how SQ described their’s as “Megatop”. But favourite line for a very long time “something like Whiskey on the Rocks without the ice” !

Those were the days with plane variety.. If you think about it, now it’s mostly all Airbus or Boeing.

Greetings from down Sheik Zayed highway. I very recently flew this route round trip myself. I booked on LH only because its a 747 route for the time being. Its been over 30 years since I last flew on a 747, so it was worth it. I was especially lucky because the DXB-FRA & FRA-MIA legs were on a 748, and the FRA-DXB was on a 744. There were small differences between the two versions, with the most noticeable difference being that the 744 didn't have the storage bin next to the seat on the upper deck, but the 748 did. I'm still considering taking LH again so that I can fly in seat 1A or 1K for the complete 747 experience.

    • @TheLayoverAviation

Seat 1A on the B747 is a bucket list thing to tick off, you’re right.
But that does not mean it’s the most comfortable one..! Usually it’s not at all.
I like the -400 over the -8.. There is something about that classic touch and louder engine noise.

3:50 I am an aviation logistician, in a course called TNFL01 in my University we talked a bit about this topic. One reason could be that the aircraft was parked some where extremely far away at apron, which requires more than one or two shuttle busses to transport the passengers. Maybe the airport did not have enough busses? or they did this for environmental reasons, since a tow truck releases less CO2 than a few busses.
In addition, the airline has airport slots where they pay for a certain parking and departure locations, the further away(like the aprons without gates) are the cheapest option, Lufthansa aircraft usually are parked at their assigned gates, so I guess that's how they did it.
On the other hand, the arriving terminals usually separates from the departure terminals in order to have a efficient passenger flow, that might be a reason too.

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the explanation Garry!
There are actually countless of options why this was done.
I basically think it was just moved from Z gates to B gates purely cause that’s where the planned departure was from. It’s easier to move the the plane rather then inform all ground equipment, catering, passengers, luggage, etc of a gate change. That would be a lot of work.
We won’t know but glad you did that course. The behind the scenes of airports and airlines is mental and there always is an explanation, even for the weirdest decisions!

I look forward to each new vid on this channel. I don't agree with Mr Chui, even though his QF 744 runway 25 departure was the banner for a certain aviation site for many years. My first overseas flight was on PH-BFA, and my first J flight was on a 744 (MH). But all I really recall is the noisy aircon and rattly takeoff. I'm glad you (and you son) have it in your log, but I'm glad they're almost gone.

      Thanks Kent!
Lot’s of his pictures were huge, I was (and still am) stuck to airliners.
The flight in J with Malaysia must have been great, those were the days.
Yes the B747 is quite outdated in many ways, but I still like to enjoy the variety of planes. It’s just becoming boring with B737, A320, B787 and A350’s.
There used to be so much variety before!
      Thanks for writing!

That's it, your son was hit by planes, he gonna be a pilot in the future for sure i was his age when was hit by planes looooong time ago and my dream was to be pilot, but the life sometimes is what it is i couldn't fullfill my dream but i flew lots of planes and still fly when i go in holidays somewhere. There is one plane i'm not interesting to fly... ahah

He seems more hit by cars then planes Carlos, but if he becomes a pilot he would make me a happy man!
The same story applies for me, I always wanted to be pilot. But I’m a far too sociable and chatty person and being seated my entire career behind a bullet proof door would be a sentence😂.
So like you I fly for fun and work as much as I can and I know how to fly smaller planes but who knows some day I might chance my mind🙄
Thanks for sharing your story, I wish you many more happy flights!

    • @TheLayoverAviation

There is a very long explanation to why the new engines take longer to start. One of the reasons why they’re more efficient comes at the price of longer starts.

I'm flying with Lufthansa in November from Dublin to Doha via Frankfurt in November - and very much a carnivore.
So I wonder if LH might bring back a meat option for the meal by then, or am I going to have to stock up snacks at FRA? 🤔

    • @TheLayoverAviation

      Hey Conor!
I think some airlines will just be going meatless.

I flew lufthansa to Toronto last year and them vegetable wraps were AWFUL. Service wasnt great and choice of meals were none existant sadly.....they were also very conservative when it came to handing out beverages throughout the flight.

    • @TheLayoverAviation

The first time I had the wrap I enjoyed, the next 7-8 times it went kind of downhill until I just didnt feel like it any longer😅.
Sorry your experience wasn’t that great.
Drink wise, LH, like many others, was very conservative throughout the service in the mid pandemic days. Now it’s more laid back so likely your experience would be better.

    • @TheLayoverAviation

      Hey Hernan!
Let us go through the lights..
If it’s the red and green light on each side of the wing; those are called navigation lights.
If it’s the white flashing one: strobe light.
If it’s the flashing red one: beacon light.
If its the bright one facing forward to illuminate: Landing light or Runway/taxi light.
If it’s one illuminating the wings and engines: wing light.
If it illuminates the tail: logo light.
      Think those are it!
