@@thegeordiewildcamper , I think it probably is for versatility, I’m on a constant roomy man and dog/daughter tent search and comes closest or Abisko Lite 2 which is lighter. The Durston 2p had my interest but annoying flappage on UK hills/storms. I’d like to see the Pretents Ridgeline or Mage 👍
Really like the look of the space in the Ly. As a tall bloke looks like some decent space as the walls go up vertically pretty quickly. Top sky shots too. Cheers
Looks a great tent. I like the two vestibule. Great for putting bag and wet gear one side and cooking on the other side and making fir an easier exit/entrance.
I wasn’t sure about the Ly when I first saw it. My first thought was that the space ratio was all wrong with two large vestibules and a relatively narrow inner, but at 6ft and 71, with dodgy joints, the height and easy access are starting to look much more attractive 😊
The moving light is most likely a helicopter ferrying lads to and from the rigs or RAF fighters practicing manoeuvres/training. The bright light will be the heat from the exhaust. They are not always shown on the Flight Radar App. Another great video Steven. There's nowt wrong with your productions. In fact I reckon yours is one of the best UK wild camping/review channels. You get straight to the point with interesting and useful information. I would like to see some budget reviews such as Highlander Blackthorn 1 or the new Blackthorn 2..similar to the one you just reviewed but a budget one in camo. Maybe the Eiger Trecker 1 man similar to the recommended D of E tent. How about a budget walking pole tent such as a Lanshan 1 copy.. Not everyone can afford premium kit but there is some good budget gear out there of reasonable quality between £100 to £250. I'm not on about the rubbish single skin festival tents at £20 or £40 ! 👍
Great review Steven, and a great looking new tent from Nortent. However, the weight is a real issue that cannot be ignored. For that weight for a two-vestibule and roomy four season tent, I'd rather go with the Hilleberg Allak 2, which would also handle the winds better for summit camping.
Thanks Richard, fair points although I’ve owned the Allak and comes in heavier. I’d also say this may be more stable within the need to upgrade to 10mm poles
@thegeordiewildcamper I wouldn't use the footprint with the Allak 2, due to the inner being 70D, so that makes a difference because I have a dog you see. I've just spent the last few weeks researching and trying to find the perfect four season tent for myself and the dog. Each "new" tent out there has at least one flaw in its design. Ideally I want two doors you see, but with a strong floor. The Storm Star doesn't fit that requirement, and the fabric on the Mountain Star isn't good enough and the roof will not withstand snow load. Until Nortent redesign the Vern 1 I'll not be getting that one. If you have any advice it'll be much appreciated mate. At the moment the Allak 2, although heavy, is at the top of my list. I still think the Golite SL3, which I'm still using, is the best tent for summit camping here in the Lakes. However, the half inner I'm now using isn't big enough for the dog as well. I have the full inner, but it's not suitable to cook inside.
Amazing night shots ❤. I wasn't sure when I got the LY1, but after my first camp, the space on offer sold me. I had it out in 38mph gusts and it was fine. Bit noisy, but that's to be expected i suppose. Shame about your mat though. I actually still prefer the vern 1, but I think both are cracking tents...especially for the price point. Cracking vid, atb paul
For me, that's the best nortent. All things considered I think it ticks way more boxes than the others 😁 Keep flipping gear, it's interesting and fun 🤣 All the best for 2025 mate, Adge
That tent looks a cracker, love the two vestibules on it, plenty of head room as well. Definitely one of the best things about camping is getting new stuff and getting out to use it. Pity about the sleep pad but.
I thought it was a cracking tent mate. Bags of space, if a little heavy for a one man tent, but a great choice for this time of year if you’re solo and spending long hours in it. Also loved the idea of being able to zip two together. Maybe ask them to send you a second one to demo that feature! Still can’t figure out what that light was!
I can see it in the Chronicle: ‘3 Geordie’s abducted by aliens!’ Love almost everything about that tent. Only concern is if I was going into hills 3kg is heavy and not sure if I’d fully trust the high structure in a storm. Be good to discover it’s limits 😊
Looks a good tent, think the vern will be stronger in high winds, but for room the Ly looks spot on, does it take up much space in the pack? , good watch as always, atb Mick👍
Me again 👀. It's a close thin, but I still prefer the Vern 1. I just need to use the Ly1 more. It will be a total suprise getting it out, though, as I've never seen it before. 😂😂😂
Another good informative vid Steven as usual. Lots of room for the weight. I've watched your vid on the Kuiu storm star, what's your honest opinion, regarding " piece of mind" reliability in winds and inclement weather? Thx.
If you want peace of mind then it’s the soulo every time. The others will handle 99% of what the UK weather will throw at it. If you want a two man that does it all then the Kuiu is best bang for your buck.
@@thegeordiewildcamper Many thanks, just what I thought. The Hillibergs are obviously bomb proof but do "rattle" in strong winds and nearly double the price. Carry on what you're doing it's appreciated.
I don't have a Soulo, but do have a Hilleberg Keron, and also a KUIU Storm Star (I also have the Nortent Ly 3 for when I actually take the other half camping, she's a bit claustrophobic so the double porches/doors and space are important). For me, for my peace of mind, it would be the Storm Star over the Hilleberg every time (I also have a shedload of other lightweight technical tents, but I don't have a problem, honest......)
Hi, nice review. The question I have is why would you take this over a similar weight, half the cost helm 2? The internal space doesn't look much different, and the hh is lower on the l1
I’ve not used the helm 2 but from what I’ve seen it offers nowhere near the space this has. HH on this is ample and I prefer silpoly for getting a taut pitch.
@thegeordiewildcamper as a more budget friendly option, it's a good tent. I can get two mats next to each other, and it's functional. Silpoly has some good advantages over silnylon. The helm is a poly tent, so there are no issues with a taut pitch. Did you manage to test the ly in a strong wind?
Looks a stunning spot for sure,as for kit I'm if it's not broke don't change it but that's doesn't make great content,I think the vast majority once their kit is dialled in it stays like that for a while but obviously youtubers need to change gear mainly to keep the channel looking different
I want that tent, should have bit the bullet before Christmas when sale was on😭 out tonight in og Vern 1 my go to for me and dog. Hope my flex tail mat doesn't leak tho, did you get to bottom of it?? Atb
Nice looking tent but, to be fair, it might be a disaster in heavy snow. That horizontal centre section would be a a real issue in heavy snowfall. I'm not sure either I'd pitch on the side of a hill, if strong wind were forecast. Otherwise, there's great space for a 3kgs tent - as long as no snow is forecast.
Some people will always be "anti", no matter what. Usually they have no idea or experience of what they are talking about. Trust yourself, your true friends, your "gut", and you will be right.
What do you think of the Ly1? For me it might be the best in their range after early impressions?
What other tents should I try?
Try a lite fighter fido 2 person military tent it is a 4 season tent

Great video mate, love that tent…added that to my wish list for a future tent 👍🏻
You should!
Expertly filmed that buddy. A great watch. Keep em coming 😊 atb bob
That’s very kind, plenty lined up!
Just subscribed mate, love your videos. 😉👍
Awesome, thank you!
Great to watch 👍
Thank you 👍
Great video. Liked the night sky!
Glad you enjoyed it

Yeah it’s a lovely space
Great video to watch mate!

Totally agree!
Aye class mate 👍 do love the look of that nortent very cool indeed 🎯
Awesome video love from Newcastle 💪
Thank you 🙌
Great video as always but had to mention that Tony's chocolate is next level hahaha. Keepnup tbe good work fella

Have to say it’s a lovely piece of kit especially the space it affords

@ take a look at the LiteWay scout? May fit the bill
The thing that's cool about trying a new tent is that it really changes your whole atmosphere.
100% Aliens 👽. That tent looks awesome. It looked like it would be a bit flappy in the wind but it's pretty solid with all those guy lines.
100% aliens 👽 yeah I think with a bit more practice it could be made even stronger with a good pitch
Cracking video, need a re visit to sus out what the UFO was😮
No doubt mate

I like it a lot… 4 season?
Ive never been a fan of 1p tents, as there isnt many with 2 doors and not a great deal of space for kit, but that one looks a great bit of kit
Really enjoyed using it it Phil

Nice tent but in my opinion too heavy for me. I’m a three season camper so my Niak suits me fine.
Fair enough!
I suppose as english 'wild campers' only have to walk up the hill from the car park - 3kg is fine for a tent
Want a bowl of milk with that one buddy 🐱
@thegeordiewildcamper '-)

Love this mate. Profound. Thank you
Design looks a bit like the Hilleberg Stallon
I like seeing you try and test gear out good vids you won't ever please everybody and few jobsworths types of here😂
2.8 kilos is wild for a one person tent. Easy enough for a short walk in like that spot but not useful for backpacking. Looks nice though.
Same weight as a soulo round about
I got elixer 2 not tried it yet noway I'd camp where that loony has on the edge ain't the word wake up in France or ireland😂
I stopped watching when you said 3kg for a 1 man tent. Maybe for car camping or 2 people but not for me...
