Thanks for the video i was so close to buying this tent. After this video decide not too .. thanks again saved me ton of cash cheers keep up the honest reviews
That’s a border rambler OG spot you had there. I’m often on the other side of the road. Some great spots over there. I do fancy that tent. Great design and guy out points.
I think it's a solid tent with some real benefits and some real flaws tbf. Most tents are the same. I think it's structure is flawed at the head and foot end ( even with guys ). The poles cross far too low so it's always under pressure. The benefit of that at either end means that side on it will be really really good! The space, door layout and vestibule are top class. Materials seems excellent too. Weight is what it is but I think it's a teeny bit excessive. Great all rounder BUT howdee Mr Kuiu.......you're better than me 🤣 Great camp btw mate, great to see you out more frequently again! Adge.
Canny spot that. I passed that way on a blustery evening in April and decided my XMid would be better in the sheepfold you will have passed by at the bottom of the hill. Those were great views and a really nice informative video, thanks. And happy new year!
Great review. I love my Vern 1. It's affordable and so far no issues at all with condensation, lots of space and been in gusts up to 40+ and the tent held up. With the new 9.5mm poles it's a lot stronger and can also double pole too. The hack with the trekking pole is a good tip too.
A great use of the vern 1. As I have said all along it’s half the price of a soulo and you get more than half the tent for it. For the price it’s a cracking tent which offers as you say a lot of vestibule space, 2 doors and a good amount of space inside too. Cracking video. Atb mark
I know that spot very well Stephen , but I normally pitch further away from the edge lol but a good test of the vern 1 in those conditions. Lovely area and with added snow too ❄️⛺️👍
I love my Vern 1, I have the updated poles but tbh never had an issue with the original poles. I think it’s a brilliant tent and because everyone compared it to the soulo on release people started taking it out in stupid winds and people reported poles breaking. People even returned them on this?? Utter madness. It’s a fantastic tent and for the money considering it’s around £500 less than a BL Soulo, it should never have been reviewed against it ( in my opinion). Fantastic video, really enjoyed this one. ATB Paul 😊
Top camp that, the quality of the Vern looks really good, just the stories of the wind bending poles that worries me. I feel like you can see at the end when you're walking around it how the end "sheets" as such could catch the wind. Looking forward to the Ly video later! Cheers
Love that location Stephen, must drag myself past the Cheviots and get my ass to the Uplands. As you may know, I have the Vern 1 and the Storm star, but I keep defaulting to the Vern. I think it's just more usable. Good to see you happy on this one.
It got slated when it first came out mainly due to the poles. They changed them from 9mm to 9.5mm and offered replacements to everyone that had the original ones. I watched another guy on YT doing a test of how strong it is. Literally had his whole bodyweight on top and it stood firm. Glad I bought it now, cant wait to get out in it.
I have had the vern 1 since September and love it, also where the poles cross over if you drop a tracking pole to about 2ft and put the guy line at the crossing point around the trecking pole it strengthens it up more 👍
Great video and perfect timing.👍 Was out in my X-Dome last night up the top of a cliff. I decided then it might be time for a proper 4 season tent! The Vern 1 is top of my list I think. Have you seam sealed it yet Stephen?
I had a Soulo set up in a shop to see it in the flesh and it was just way too small and cramped for me. I'm often on Dartmoor or BB so I need to embrace the rain!😳🤣 I have an Unna (plus 10 mm poles)and love it and I think I would look at the Storm Star had I not got the Unna. I think from memory I worked out the non vestibule on the Unna is roughly the same size as that on the Soulo and that's before you unclip anything.
my first camp ever was in storm cathleen. It was 50 mph winds. i have never felt wind like it. i was in a OEX Jackel 3. once i had pitched it it was a steady as a rock, it didnt budge an inch, and was so quiet. The morel of the story is this, if you are on a budget you really dont need to spend £400 plus on a tent. For folks wanting to camp on a budget you dont ned to spend this money. You do however need a good sleep system no matter what tent you have in these conditions
@@thegeordiewildcamper They are on back order and wont tell us when they are back in stock till they have enough orders. lol. Thanks anyways. Ive ended up buying a Soulo second hand,. Hopefully just as good. I think you have had both?!
It's a good tent, but it is in no way comparable to the Hilleberg soulo, no matt how much early marketing was don by giving them away to every youtube willing to say so.
he literally named the peaks nearby. anyone above single digit IQ could find it if they wanted to with a bit of effort quite easily. majority of wild campers do this to filter out the less thoughtful people who would come to the spot and not follow the wild camping code.
Be fair, he named the trail he is on and pointed out some places. Anyone that knows this guy also knows he doesn’t hand you out postcodes and for good reason. All you need to do is look at a map genuine wild campers wouldn’t expect a postcode
Of course you can go out and enjoy these stunning locations. You’ll just have to find them yourself…. Like Stephen has to. I don’t blame him at all. Probably doesn’t want the responsibility when others go up and s##t it all up to high heaven.
Its a tough one mate, I get pelters when I reveal locations - for those astute campers they will be able to use the breadcrumbs I have left throughout the video to find it. Open OS Maps.
What do you think of the vern1? Drop a comment below 👇🏻
Lovely scenery friend! Area looks and feels amazing!
Thanks for visiting
Great video mate. Liking the look of the Vern 1. Top singing at 9:02 as well 😂
hahaha cheers mate
Thanks for the video i was so close to buying this tent. After this video decide not too .. thanks again saved me ton of cash cheers keep up the honest reviews
Glad I could help!
Looks great. And nice and winterly conditions in the morning. I should look into this tent as a norwegian 🙂👍❄️
Yes most definitely 💯
@thegeordiewildcamper ❄️

Yeah I’ve seen him and Davey miles camp their beautiful spots
Another stunning video from you. Thanks for sharing.
The one door on the soulo sucks but it still a great tent.
Thank mate!

Ah yes Ian, i saw that spot - was half tempted myself haha

sounds very positive for the future
Love my Vern 1, Vern 2 and Gamme 6👍🏻
Yeah all lovely pieces of kit!

Cheers Mark - I its a good alternative
I've wanted one since forever...
Gret bit of kit
I like the double doors feature but would have to go for the Storm Star from what I've seen of both.
Each to their own buddy
I know that spot very well Stephen , but I normally pitch further away from the edge lol but a good test of the vern 1 in those conditions. Lovely area and with added snow too ❄️⛺️👍
Yeah its a superb area! you inspired me to explore further in the southern uplands. TFW Steven

Thanks Paul - yeah its only natural to draw comparison but it aint a hilleberg but its certainly a worthy 4 season tent.

Yeah more testing needed I think pitch back to the wind is the way forward

Time will tell on this Dave. I do like it just wish it was a different colour!
@@thegeordiewildcamper Really! You mean like with the orange flashes on the SS for photogenicness?
@ yes please 🤣

Have you seam sealed it yet Stephen?
Im not sure it even needs sealing I havent had any leaks yet?

Ive had the Unna and its my favourite Hille - although it does need 10mm poles in my eyes
15:10 Did you not get a footprint with the tent ? And do you think the scarp 1 would be ok in these conditions??
I did buddy but im not a massive fan of carryign them. I mostly cook in veestibule so would need to remove it anyway

Yeah thats great! happy camping.
If it is top tier, what is the superior Soulo BL ?
Can the vern 1 handle 80mph winds like the Soulo?
Watch the whole video.
Hi. What's an overall weight of your pack?
The tent itself is advertised as an 2.7kg full weight. Not light on my opinion.
It’s not ultralight at all. All in my pack is around 10kg
Nice looking tent Stephen, more room than the Soulo 🤔
My thoughts exactly Dave!
Where is best to buy here in the UK? Can’t find anywhere with stock other than nortent directly?
Valley and peak
@@thegeordiewildcamper They are on back order and wont tell us when they are back in stock till they have enough orders. lol. Thanks anyways. Ive ended up buying a Soulo second hand,. Hopefully just as good. I think you have had both?!
Tank tent for sure 😂
Correct!
Always thought the vern looked good however went for the storm star. Suppose pros and cons with most tents and too much to get into here.
Kuiu far superior mate, excellent choice 😊
Completely get it mate
well you got snow at xmas you lucky bugger ....... all the best
cheers budd ATB
It's a good tent, but it is in no way comparable to the Hilleberg soulo, no matt how much early marketing was don by giving them away to every youtube willing to say so.
Exactly my comments and opinions during the video although it is difficult not to naturally draw comparisons
Storm Star Kuiu for me! It is made in USA and all materials sourced in USA! Can't beat it!
great tent!
Would you say the Vern 1 is stronger than a Hilleberg Soulo? Andy from Backpacking UK says it is
No, this is strong but it’s not a soulo.
you could buy a really good second hand tent you can trust
for the same money
Thanks for the input 👍
Don’t want to watch the rest. Just spent a fortune on a Hilleberg
hahaha Chris could ahve saved youself half the money! what did you go with?
“You know me I don’t name any names”.
Fancy gatekeeping these stunning locations so others cant enjoy. Awful craic.
