I use the same microphone and interface, but the best way to hear things at all is that I always have to have the volume knob all the way up. Does this sound odd or is that normal? PLEASE HELP
Did you find out the reason for the issue you were having with volume? As I'm looking to get this exact setup and was worried about this. I'd heard that the direct monitoring volume is quite quiet on the focusrite for some reason
Normally after I do a voice recording, I just turn off the live monitoring on my focusrite scarlett and the audio in my headphones goes back to normal and then I turn it back on once I’m ready for another recording or just playing games.
I’m using a new Focusrite 2i2 third gen, I’m using a Rode NT 1 Rode as well. I record a Martin D 42 ,very loud acoustic ,and do vocals on NT 1 as well. From the second I plugged the mic in the gain control went immediately to yellow ,and it wasn’t even at 9:00 position , in other words hardly any signal being picked up, but it sounded great when I had it at 12:00 was just loud enough with no distortion or feedback. There must be something wrong with the fosusrite. I recorded four tracks ,all were clean. Why is the 2i2 only showing yellow all the way through the spectrum of the gain ( volume ) control. No green on either input. Here is how I have it set up, as I only record with condenser mics, only acoustic guitar, and voice . I mention that as I don’t use a hub. I’m using an Apple BRAND camera adapter ,hence USB 3- Lightening ports charging the iPad Pro while using the 2i2 is going into the 12 watt charger direct, hence not using the battery in iPad. Worked perfectly on 2i2 second gen … Any thoughts why it would sound great but show clipping all the time, no green ever. Thank Tou.

Really good info, thanks! Is the 2i2 suitable for recording vocals (rode nt1) and piano (mono line out?) at the same time? I want to record some song covers and planning to buy the rode nt1 and scarlett 2i2. Thanks again! :)
Hey there! I literally just got the interface - Scarlett focusrite 2i2 - 3rd gen interface with the Rode nt1-a. I’m having a problem though which is incredibly frustrating. I’m getting literally a ‘Wind Noise’ with a mix of noises that sound like thunder and static robotic noises also with the interface and I can’t seem to fix it at all or figure it out. Have you any idea what this problem could be? The Rode mic is working with it but not as it should because I’m getting those awful noises with my interface and it’s passing the problem onto the mic too because of it. It’s literally so frustrating not being able to figure or fix it. Now I do have an older MacBook- I have a mid 2012 one with MacOS Catalina with update 10.15.7 and I’m just wondering would the system or update I have be causing this noise or can I rule that out? I’m really struggling to figure this out so anything you know that may be the problem would be very helpful! Thank you! Ps, great video 👍
If you're on windows, make sure you've download the drivers and registered the product. Aside from this, these issues can happen from a bad cable, low computer memory (RAM), or having too many other programs open at once.
Would you happen to have any idea why my mic (Rode NT1-A connected through the Scarlett 2i2 into MacBook Pro on Logic) continuously cuts out/stops working in the middle of recording every 10 minutes or so. I’m not doing anything differently at all, I have everything setup properly as shown in your video, I’ll be in the middle of recording for about 10 minutes and then boom. No more mic input out of nowhere and then I have to restart and mess with everything for 30 minutes. Thank you.
I had that issue on my old mac which I had used for many years. I bought an M1 and it began to work fine, not sure if its time for a new laptop for you. 🌹
Hey. Thanks for sharing. I bought this mic whole kit, and have been using it with focusrite scarlet 2i2 for last 5 years, and using senheiser Headphones for monitoring. Is it possible to have the Solo plugged into the computer as well as a headset and be able to hear through the headset? or does it auto-route to something since I don't have speakers?
I bought this set for my daughter and she is experiencing a delay/latency. We cannot figure out how to fix. She has it hooked up to her windows PC. Help!
Hi, It was a great video. I recently bought the focusrite + Rode NT1 for podcasting. Unfortunately, (I use Logik too) I don't really understand the settings on Logik... I get a lot of background sounds and moise noises. Do you have any idea of the settings or preset for improving the quality of my recordings? Thank you a lot
Personally, I don't do very much to my audio. I just normalize the audio and ship it for the most part. Sometimes I'll add a tiny bit of compression and a high pass filter, but that's it.
Technical question if someone can help or point me in the right direction. So I have a mic - Rode NT1 - and it was working fine on my Scarlett Solo. Once I got the 2i2 (both 3rd gen), signal intake became pretty low. 48v is on, maxed out the gain, tested with different cables, mic gold dot pointing at me, and the Scarlett mic works just fine (even with gain knob halfway). However, my NT1’s signal only seems to get through if I basically shout at the mic and have maxed out the gain. Anyone with the same issues or knows how to fix?
I've got the NT1-A and also the Scarlett 2i2. For some reason it can't pick up any audio, its worked before and has stuffed up like this before but I don't know how I fixed it the first time. I really wanna get it working since i need it for work. The only time the rings light up is when I turn on the Phantom power and thats it. Do you know whats going on or how i can fix this???
Great video. I just tried using my new NT1-A mic with the Scarlett 2i2 and it didn't work properly. Immediately there were wind sounds at any volume. I had to turn it way up to get any sound when recording too. In contrast, my other mic, the audio-technica At2020 worked fine with my same setup. I tried using a different XLR cable for the NT1-A too to no avail. Is it safe to assume I have a defective mic?
This might be a dumb question, but are you sure that the NT1-A is pointed in the right direction? Commonly when I hear NT1 users complain of room noise or excessive air noise, the mic is backwards.
@@teannarae7664 Excellent. I'm always shy to ask that one because it can offend some people. My only other suggestion would be to play with direction/angles with the microphone. It's possible that it's just in a bad location and catching air from your mouth or a vent that you're not noticing.
@@kettnercreative I tried that too by moving around to multiple places. I also tried another mic too in the same spot and the other mic worked fine. I don’t know what else could be the issue. Hey Kettner, I know this video was posted nearly over a year ago, but I just began using Focusrite 2i2 interface with FL Studio and I have a OneOdio studio headphone. The only problem I seem to be having is that I am unable to get rid of the double voice when listening to myself speak into the Rode NTA1 mic I recently just received. Is the problem in the headphone or the mic or FL Studio? Can someone please lend a hand? Thank you! -OB
I have just bought this interface and NT1 and when we try to record my voice over the music is not enough loud for me to hear it. How can I boost my voice in my headphones so I can hear myself to record
Is it worth getting like an NTK if I have a scarlett 2i2? or is there no point getting a mic upgrade if you're using a low end audio interface like 2i2?
Hello, I just buy these two and I don't know why but the microphone doesn't work like the Focuswrite start, there's some lights but it's just as if it doesn't recognize the microphone. I don't know if it's my fault and I'm just really bad at setting those correctly or if there's a problem with the microphone or the interface. Can someone help me ? :)
Hey i have a question im using the rode ntk, When i connect the mic to the focus rite 2i2, i dont hear my voice instead i hear static, i dont know if its because i set it up wrong, but i dont hear my voice just some weird noises
Please I need help guys! I got a rode nt1a with focusrite 3rd gen, I also have adapter for iphone and a power hub as a gift but now I’m struggling. After I connect everything the focus turned on well but then is not connecting with the microphone. The 48V phantom is not turning on and no green light around the control. So what I’m doing wrong??? Please help thank you 🙏🏼
It sounds like the Scarlett 2i2 isn't getting enough power from your Powered USB hub. To be clear, when you're connecting the 2i2 to to your phone you need the powered USB hub to be plugged into your phone (using the official apple camera adapter), the wall (for power), and the scarlett 2i2.
@@kettnercreative I’ve been following the steps you mentioned to the T. Focus successfully turned on, I can listen to music or anything on the headphones yet the microphone is not working, the 48v phantom light doesn’t stay on 😔
@@LolaLoopsAndStitches That means that it's not getting enough power. You might need to try another powered USB hub and the powered USB hub must be plugged into the wall for external power.
@@kettnercreative Definitely I think that’s the issue. Do you have any power hub recommendation? I bought an Anker power hub, this is the one Focusrite recommended in their page but it seems is not enough 😭 I feel so frustrated a d thank you so much for the patience.
Hello kattner, if I buy scarlett solo 3rd (and not 2i2) with rode nt1, will be this kit compatible with my macbook? (Because my rode complete studio kit didn’t worked correctly with macbook)
@@laliveclips135 i don’t know why, but rode nt1 and nt1-a did not worked well with solo on macbook, so i bought audiotechnica 2035, for my solo and macbook, and i’m very satisfied, and very good audio quality for me
@@laliveclips135 sorry for bad english, yes i use it for voice. I wanted alot this micros, but obviously didn’t worked , so i bought audiotechnica 2035 and very satisfied, 2 mouth that i have this mic
Well, I think a correction is required for the DIRECT MONITOR switch, it toggles between sending the input audio to your headphone /monitor (stereo will sound on left/ right even if you set this either ways, and that is not the purpose of this). Also if you switch it "OFF" then you can only hear output from the USB-connected computer.
The way I describe it in the video is accurate. Here it is explained another way from the manual: Setting the front panel DIRECT MONITOR control to either MONO or STEREO will route your input signals directly to the Scarlett 2i2’s headphone and main monitor outputs. This enables you to hear yourself with zero latency - i.e., in “real time” - along with the computer playback. The input signals to your computer are not affected in any way by this setting. In MONO mode, Inputs 1 and 2 are routed equally to the centre of the stereo image. This is useful when you are recording two separate instruments or an instrument and a vocal, where there is no need for the two signals to be specifically located in the stereo image. In STEREO mode, Input 1 is routed to the left output channel and Input 2 to the right. Use this mode if you are recording something that is inherently stereo in nature. Examples are any situation where two microphones are being used to deliberately capture a stereo image such as a pair of overhead drum mics, a single stereo mic recording an orchestra or other ensemble, or the stereo outputs of an electronic source such as a piano, synthesiser or FX unit.
No matter what I do Logic wont pickup any monitoring from my Rhode, ive spent hours on this and cant get anything to pickup my voice. Yes phantom power is on.
@@kettnercreative yes. Everything is set up, somehow I got it to record. Except I get enough latency to make playing guitar in time impossible, adjusted all buffer size etc and ticker low latency option... still latency. I’m wondering now about direct input ministering vs software monitoring :/
I doubt if anyone will see this but I have a huge issue with my focusrite/rode microphone (together). I connected everything correctly, turned on 48V, yet I don't see the green light around the gain knob (or sometimes if I 'punch' on the microphone really hard but I'd prefer to not do that all the time haha). Both focusrite and microphone have been sent back and should both be working perfectly.. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I'm now thinking about buying another interface/microphone because I'm getting exhausted trying it every day, hahha. so if anyone knows what I should be doing differently or has tips, pls let me know:))

I have just bought this interface and NT1 and when we try to record my voice over the music is not enough loud for me to hear it. How can I boost my voice in my headphones so I can hear myself to record
Turn down the music output from your computer
I have an NT1 with a AI-1 interface and can't seem to get my computer to receive the input.
This probably sounds stupid but is the scarlet solo basically the same set up??
You can see a comparison here: th-cam.com/video/U_1IXOsqJjc/w-d-xo.html
Is it worth getting like an NTK if I have a scarlett 2i2? or is there no point getting a mic upgrade if you're using a low end audio interface like 2i2?
2i2 is good enough for the NTK, especially since it's a condenser mic and you don't have to push the preamps too hard.
why doesnt my gain halo flicker on
Hello, I just buy these two and I don't know why but the microphone doesn't work like the Focuswrite start, there's some lights but it's just as if it doesn't recognize the microphone.
@Alex 14 The rode ntk comes with it's own power supply and requires more volts than the 2i2 comes with. Hope that helps!
tnku sir
is it good interface for rode nt1 ?
It's good
Thank you!
You're welcome!
The phantom power button is not getting on
A me non si attiva il 48v come faccio?
i was wondering why this mic sounded worse than my previous one, and then i just realized it was facing the wrong way💀
Did that for weeks with my NT1. Cringe thinking back on the auditions I sent out lololol
Please help
thank you 🙏🏼
It sounds like the Scarlett 2i2 isn't getting enough power from your Powered USB hub. To be clear, when you're connecting the 2i2 to to your phone you need the powered USB hub to be plugged into your phone (using the official apple camera adapter), the wall (for power), and the scarlett 2i2.
@@kettnercreative I’ve been following the steps you mentioned to the T. Focus successfully turned on, I can listen to music or anything on the headphones yet the microphone is not working, the 48v phantom light doesn’t stay on 😔
@@kettnercreative Ok what is the wall? Maybe is that
@@LolaLoopsAndStitches That means that it's not getting enough power.
Anyone know if this works with the RodeMini? As i think thats a USB mic only.
No hissing? Why when I put my gain up it hiss
Hello kattner,
if I buy scarlett solo 3rd (and not 2i2) with rode nt1, will be this kit compatible with my macbook?
(Because my rode complete studio kit didn’t worked correctly with macbook)
Did you figure out if it worked? Cuz I have the same situation I have the solo and considering buying the rode nt1
@@laliveclips135 i don’t know why, but rode nt1 and nt1-a did not worked well with solo on macbook, so i bought audiotechnica 2035, for my solo and macbook, and i’m very satisfied, and very good audio quality for me
@@bamut007 do you record vocals? Wow you helped me out because I was just going to order one online. What were your issues exactly?
@@laliveclips135 sorry for bad english, yes i use it for voice.
Issues: spectrum is very strange when i record on adobe audition, and some days micro don’t work, very strange, i dont’t know how is it possible. 1 day micro working, and another day don’t working, same problem with rode nt1 and nt1-a. I wanted alot this micros, but obviously didn’t worked , so i bought audiotechnica 2035 and very satisfied, 2 mouth that i have this mic
Is the ssl 2 better then the 2i2 for vocals
I prefer the SSL2 or SSL2+ for anything really.
can i use it withe the solo
Yes you can!
Here it is explained another way from the manual:
Setting the front panel DIRECT MONITOR control to either MONO or STEREO will route your input signals
directly to the Scarlett 2i2’s headphone and main monitor outputs. This enables you to hear yourself
with zero latency - i.e., in “real time” - along with the computer playback. The input signals to your
computer are not affected in any way by this setting.
In MONO mode, Inputs 1 and 2 are routed equally to the centre of the stereo image. This is useful when you are
recording two separate instruments or an instrument and a vocal, where there is no need for the two
signals to be specifically located in the stereo image.
In STEREO mode, Input 1 is routed to the left output channel and Input 2 to the right. Use this mode
if you are recording something that is inherently stereo in nature. Examples are any situation where two microphones
are being used to deliberately capture a stereo image such as a pair of overhead drum mics, a single
stereo mic recording an orchestra or other ensemble, or the stereo outputs of an electronic source
such as a piano, synthesiser or FX unit.
No matter what I do Logic wont pickup any monitoring from my Rhode, ive spent hours on this and cant get anything to pickup my voice. Yes phantom power is on.
Have you clicked the little "R" button on track 1?
Is the scarlet audio headphone jack female or male ?
Female
Similar setup here!
Solid combination for sure.
Thank you! Do I set the 2i2 to "Line" or "Inst" for the NT1-A?
my laptop audio sounds better than my nt1a rode mic, wtf. spent so much money for shitty mic, don't buy
What should be the height of the mic with the person who is recording a voice over for post production and when recording voice for a song.
It's best for rode nt2-a?
Thank you!
Thanks man! Appreciate the knowledge
