Thanks for that, John. I'll take note and put that in the next update video. Shame they didn't include it in either the Shattered Empire or Force Awakens TPB, it's the only issue I've had to buy individually. Will probably end up buying Storms of Crait individually too.
Use this video or his updated video as a guide to the reading order of the comics. Since both videos they have added more comics that take place within this timeline, but this is a good guide and provides a place to start. To answer your question directly, Darth Mual comics is a good place to start.

Ahhh, this video is so amazing and handy! This must of taken quite a long time to pieces together yet alone make the graphics. Thanks for your work, Dave, we all love it! I really want Marvel to make comics on how the rebels got the plans to Death Star 2 (With the bothans I believe) and the "final" fall of the empire (Battle of Jakku) Btw, The Last Jedi has been getting very great reactions on social media from the premiere (watched the premiere live, makes me even more hyped) saying it's the best SW film since Empire which is exciting. Lucky you're watching it on Wednesday, but I'm only watching it a few hours later at 12:30am. I'm so excited, The countdown is on!
Thanks heaps man! I’m glad this will prove useful. Oh boy, this took AGES. I’ve probably spent the best part of 2 months in between all my daily videos. All to launch Star Wars week!! Ohh man, while I’m LOVING the stories filling the gaps between IV & V, I’m dying to get to the stuff set between V & VI. So much incredible lore to discover. Soooooo pumped for The Last Jedi!!! Hope you enjoy it mate!
Finally. Having all the comics , movies and tv shows my self , I can finally put it all together. I have a feeling I’m going to have a long week going thru all this in order. Thanks for the video keep them coming.
When I have a brutal budget, I would like to bring the best people I can find and create an independent filmteam creating Star Wars Legends films. Not for the money, no script-changing. Just pure love and passion for the project.
I love the visuals of this video! Also thanks for creating this, I have been trying to find some sort of list of the comics in canonical order with mini reviews on each one etc. - this was perfect!
Thank you for this insanely insightful timeline! Comics are essential pillars of the whole SW universe, well done on reading so many and passing your experience on them over!
This is absolutely Awesome Dave!! I found your channel through your Canon Graphic Novel Collection so this great! And considering I’ve just started collecting everything in the new canon I need this keep it ! PS I watched this with a nice drink sat watching the Snow 😎
Thanks heaps mate!! Glad this is helpful! Enjoy reading through the new canon - it’s amazing! So many fun and exciting stories. And so many incredible moments that have literally made my jaw drop. Ohhh boy, sounds like a perfect night!
Great video! I was a total SW-nerd in the 80s/90s. The interest faded with the prequels, but I´m slowly getting back in full geek mode with all the new movies and things like Clone Wars and Rebels. Looks like it's about time to start getting into the comics.
I'm actually pretty interested in getting a lot of these comics now because of this video! Well everything besides the stuff at the end. Mostly because I hate the sequels. Just my opinion but still! A lot of great prequel and original trilogy comics to get! Also I don't remember if I saw anything about the Boba Fett comics in this video but I was pretty sure Marvel made some for that character as well. Still thanks for the video!
Haha, to be fair, while I enjoy the new movies, the comics set in the era have so far been some of the weakest lines. The stuff set during the OT has been BRILLIANT! Marvel haven't done anything with Boba Fett just yet, I think they did during their original run in the 70s - 80s though.
Thank god you made this video!! I was so lost trying to figure out what collected edition to buy next wanting to read in order. I come back at least once a week to this video to make sure I'm on track! Good work!
This video is gold!! You are a ledgend for putting in all this hard work! I have it as a saved video ans im constantly checking the timeline while i dive deep into the SW comic world👍👍👍
You are amazing I was so confused where to start and now I have a good idea. I’m probably going to start this with the Darth Maul comic first instead of reading the story about Yoda’s Secret War, only because it’s a flash back story. I personally will leave the flashback stories where they are.. I’ll probably have a difficult time reading Kanan’s comic because of where that comic is in chronological order and the flashbacks to his younger life. Thanks again I’ll be subscribing to you for sure
This is a great video. Also worth noting that the first Vader series now has a harrback Omnibus which includes all of the volumes and Vader Down in one glorious large book. Planning to get that later this month.
The name of Darth Vader vol. 1 is very confusing but even tho the arc is called the chosen one the full volume is called imperial machine. It says it at the bottom of the comic.
fakin hell dude I've been lookin for a video like this for ages😄,thx soo much and plz do novels.i know so hard to do the legends but plz try to simplify it.keep it up 🤘🤘
I have every issue of the Mace windu series and the Anakin and Obi wan series and all 25 issues of the Darth Vader series and every issue of rouge one and force awakens and Last Jedi
Amazing Dave. Do you own all the comics? Are these avaliable digitally? If so where would you recommend gettimg them from? I totally don't understand thr way vomics are sold, but I very much want to start a collection. I just don't know where to start, what to look for and which people to trust.
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this. I have read the vast majority of these. Only some of the newer ones I haven’t. I own them all in trade paperback. They’re super cheap through book depository. I pay about $18 AUD for them, compared to $30-$40 in store. You can buy issues digitally through the Marvel online store. Otherwise, I can recommend a year’s subscription to Marvel unlimited. It’s only like $80 for a year and has just about every marvel comic ever published in digital form including the new Star Wars comics. “New” issues are delayed 6 months on the app though.
The comics are actually pretty good, well written and drawn(for the most parts). The problem lies with all these being connected to the sequel trilogy, as much praise as Luke and Anakin are getting for being powerful( in the back of my mind, Rey embarrasses any other feats they have). Luke is actually an incomptent duelist throughout tje stories, and is usually saved or win via the force( Luck). This is only one instance, there are still more I could count. But all in all the comics are good, lacks creativity(since all of their comics are inbetween movies and still pretty new), but yea the comics are one of the few redeeming quality the new canon has. No surprise since Marvel has reign over these.
Question now that season 7 of Clone Wars is out and gives the show a definitive ending is Darth Maul Son of Dathomir worth a read? Since they were meant to be episodes of the show.
Ha Ha I thought this was gonna include the original Star Wars comics from the 70s & 80s, I just dug out "Jawas of Doom " Marvel comics StarWars vol. 1 #81 March 1984 .
So interested in reading everything in order, can you get all of these as digital copies as even though I appreciate how amazing it would be to have everything as a physical copy, I can imagine it’s quite hard not to mention the cost
Hey please im confused here so when i buy Yoda's secret war ok. I can only find one book that has 144 pages and ij the beginning of the videos there is like 5 or 6 comic book covers does that one that has 144 pages = all the other small ones or how does that work
Honestly, I’m a huge fan of buying physical, however, I make one exception when it comes to digital. There’s an app you can download called Marvel Unlimited. You sign up to a paid subscription, which is fairly cheap... you can go monthly or yearly... and you get access to thousands of marvel comics. All the new Star Wars ones are on there, I think they’re just 6 months behind on new releases. Could be an easy and cost-effective way of catching up on all the issues, or a cheap way to try out what you like before you buy
As someone who’s interested in additional parts to this series, I’m wondering how you’d prefer “update” videos to be pieced together? Two ideas I’m tossing between •An overview of just the new additions, within context (a short 10 minute video) •A complete re-upload of this video with the new content added in
Dave Lee Down Under I would say the 10 minute video would work best and just go over when the events take place in Chronological but it's up to you man you always do great with the videos keep up the good work. :).
I'll probably work on a complete canon when I work on my comics vol 2. The complete canon will have novels and will show just the comic arcs (not individual issues), so will be more streamlined.
If Obi-Wan and Anakin takes place 3 years after TPM then it takes place 7 years not "a few months" before AotC also Yoda's Secret Wars and the Darth Maul comics both take place in the same year as TPM
Great vid dave ! were you aware that the villain in the Rebel jail arc was the main character in the first star wars annual ? oh and a few more days till the last jedi ! as anakin would say wizard !!
Hey, nice video, i also like collecting them in tpb’s, but i live in Chile, and it is very difficult to find them in south america, so it’ll be cool if could tell me where and how you purchased the tpb’s
Hey, thanks man! I import all of mine from Book Depository, they have all of them and for great prices: www.bookdepository.com/search?searchTerm=STAR+wars+marvel&search=Find+book/?a_aid=DAVELEEDU
Dave Lee Down Under that’s great, i guess i’ll collect them in english then, because they haven’t come out in spanish, at least not all of them, anyways, thank you for the intel, you just won a sub.
it makes no sense why there's a bunch of Comics set between ANH and TESB, despite it being only a three year period but there's only one comic set between TPM AND AOTC, despite being a ten year period. you can see the OT bias.
Well, to be fair, the comics that take place between ANH and TESB are mostly part of the main ongoing series which tells a chronological story. I’d like to see more exploration of the PT timeline too, but I guess it just doesn’t sell as well as OT stuff... Anyway, Marvel have only been publishing this stuff for a few years now, so plenty of time left!
Dave Lee Down Under yet even without the main Star Wars comic line, you have lines focusing on single characters such as Vader, Leia, Doctor Aphra, Lando, Chewbacca, Han Solo, and plenty more. Yet there is only two comic lines being in the prequel era, them being ObiWan and Anakin and the Mace Windu comic. There is absolutely no reason we shouldn't be seeing more comic lines set in the prequels when their is 10+ lines set between 4-5. Where's my Qui Gon Jinn Comic dang it??
Thanks mate, I get notifications straight to my phone, so it’s easy to keep up with things. I believe anyone who’s happy to give me their time deserves mine in return Thanks for watching!
As someone who’s interested in additional parts to this series, I’m wondering how you’d prefer “update” videos to be pieced together? Two ideas I’m tossing between •An overview of just the new additions, within context (a short 10 minute video) •A complete re-upload of this video with the new content added in
This is every series so far that is included in the current 'canon'. So, you certainly don't need to read any of the earlier stuff. You don't even need to read everything that I've shown here really, this is just to give you a good idea of what's out there and were it takes place in the continuity of the saga :)
Except there is a comic adaptation and it’s coming out in May. If you’d watched my updated edition of the timeline you’d see. www.google.com.au/amp/comicbook.com/starwars/amp/2018/02/02/star-wars-last-jedi-adaptation-comic-new-scenes/
Regarding the movie not “earning much”. It earned almost $1.5billion, and is the 9th most sucessful movie of all time at the box office. This is more than any other Star Wars movie (before inflation), other than Force Awakens. So if they all had adaptations, obviously this one would. Also, merchandise sold perfectly fine for a Star Wars film of its kind. Merchandise for TFA sold amazingly because it was the first new movie for 10 years, same reason Phantom Menace merchandise sold like crazy too. Just like Attack of The Clones and Revenge of the Sith, Last Jedi didn’t sell as well as the predecessor because there was no hype. AotC and RotS merch didn’t sell well either. Also factor in that 90% of TLJ figures were repacks from TFA... why would many bother buying the same figures over again? I bought over 40 figures from TFA but only 4 from TLJ. Not because i didn’t like the movie, because I already had the other figures.
Ok guess the Marvel will publish The Last Jedi.Question is?Will it Sell well?.I've watch to many TH-cam channels saying critics about the Movie.I don't know what the Disney Empire will do next to the Galaxy far far away.
I don't like the Movie.Luke died.So Kylo Ren is the next Skywalker Bloodline now is Sith Lord. Then what will happen next?Kylo Ren will return to the light and Rey will become Sith.Well that's the beauty of the Novels,Suspense,As long as George Lucas doesn't wrote the story any more?i don't like it
Yes, there's two seperate Darth Vader series. It's very common for comics to start a series over again, or, you might say, re-boot a series with a new #1 issue and a new timeline placement. The original DARTH VADER series runs for 25 issues and is set after A New Hope. The second DARTH VADER series is still on-going, with currently 17 issues. Each series have their own numbering (eg. the second series goes back to #1 issue), and the second series is subtitled DARK LORD OF THE SITH to make it easier to distinguish the two series.
Thanks for responding. I am going to the comic store now to pick some up. I personally think the stories being pushed on the comics medium show that Disney cares a lot about the Star Wars Franchise. And to be fair the Last Jedi was not that bad, but they made a lot of questionable errors in spite of themselves. The fans waiting forever to see Yoda use his light saber, and we got to see the film adaption in the Attack of Clone movie. We got to see Anakin succumb to the Dark side and have him survive his fight against Obie Wan. We should not have to read about Luke Skywalker's (supposedly the culmination of and thus greatest jedi masters) exploits in comics or novels. Yeah that image projection from light years away was beyond bananas, but damn....we need more.
Oh and to anyone interested in the C3PO one shot its in the Shattered empire hardback !
Thanks for that, John. I'll take note and put that in the next update video.
Shame they didn't include it in either the Shattered Empire or Force Awakens TPB, it's the only issue I've had to buy individually. Will probably end up buying Storms of Crait individually too.
happy to help and sorry for sticking my nose in haha
Don’t be silly mate, always happy for feedback if it helps improve the content!
I’m a TPB guy, so not too informed when comes to the hardbacks.
You can also buy it individual
I would prefer to buy it individually so you can see every individual piece of content.
The comics are easily the hidden gem of the new Star Wars canon.
Completely agree!
Yeah, and people just overlook it all and just judge the new canon by the movies, which is totally unfair!
Where to start ? I want to read them but am overwhelmed with where to begin. Suggestions ?
Use this video or his updated video as a guide to the reading order of the comics. Since both videos they have added more comics that take place within this timeline, but this is a good guide and provides a place to start. To answer your question directly, Darth Mual comics is a good place to start.

hi there, i m new in this type of comics, Star Wars Vol. 5: Yoda's Secret War covers 26-30 or they are other comics too?
Thank you
Ahhh, this video is so amazing and handy! This must of taken quite a long time to pieces together yet alone make the graphics. Thanks for your work, Dave, we all love it!
I really want Marvel to make comics on how the rebels got the plans to Death Star 2 (With the bothans I believe) and the "final" fall of the empire (Battle of Jakku)
Btw, The Last Jedi has been getting very great reactions on social media from the premiere (watched the premiere live, makes me even more hyped) saying it's the best SW film since Empire which is exciting. Soooooo pumped for The Last Jedi!!! Hope you enjoy it mate!
This is the best star wars comic video I have ever seen and really makes me want to read all the comics! Great video!!
Thanks heaps mate!! Glad you enjoyed it.
Get into those comics! They’re amazing!
Great video! I just started reading the Darth Vader comics, and I was a little confused about the timeline. Very helpful.
Amazing video. Very well made and it makes everything so much easier to collect. thanks champ.

Thanks to this list and research online ive Finally collected all the current Canon Marvel Star Wars comics🙌🏾
When I have a brutal budget, I would like to bring the best people I can find and create an independent filmteam creating Star Wars Legends films. Not for the money, no script-changing. Just pure love and passion for the project.
If George Lucas didn't sell Star Wars then this would've been a more lucrative possibility.
I love the visuals of this video! Also thanks for creating this, I have been trying to find some sort of list of the comics in canonical order with mini reviews on each one etc. - this was perfect!
Thanks so much, Conor! Glad it’s helpful 😊
Thank you for this insanely insightful timeline! Comics are essential pillars of the whole SW universe, well done on reading so many and passing your experience on them over!
Absolute pleasure! Glad to see these are helping so many. I've also done a second volume which is more up to date, with some extra things added too.

this video is gold
This does put a smile on my face

Always great when someone recognises Planets!
Would love to see an update with the new comics

because he said episode 2 was set a few months after obi wan and anakin
Very informative video. Nice job!

Thank you for this vid!
Thanks for making this vid, it's very helpful! I've only read the Poe Dameron comics so far, so I've got a whole lot of exploring to do.

The name of Darth Vader vol. 1 is very confusing but even tho the arc is called the chosen one the full volume is called imperial machine. It says it at the bottom of the comic.
Yeah, very confusing. Not sure what’s going on there.

Awesome!
Thank you for this!
Pleasure! 😊
I love the Star Wars comics
Awesome video, but release dates would have been nice too
The comics are actually pretty good, well written and drawn(for the most parts).
No surprise since Marvel has reign over these.
your a legend thanks mate!
Pleasure mate, hope it’s useful!
Hello, I’m watching this in 2020. I know that this vid was hard work but can you make a update for 2020??
Question now that season 7 of Clone Wars is out and gives the show a definitive ending is Darth Maul Son of Dathomir worth a read? Since they were meant to be episodes of the show.
Any guide or advice of the old republic comics (EU?) I'm actually more interested on that tie period, and know nothing about SW comics
Turritopsis I think a lot of those are considered legends for now
Ha Ha I thought this was gonna include the original Star Wars comics from the 70s & 80s, I just dug out "Jawas of Doom " Marvel comics StarWars vol. 1 #81 March 1984 .
GIVE US LEGENDS.
Darth mail son of dathomir story could still happen in Star Wars the clone wars season 7
was just wondering is their anything more newer than this like after number 9 or before 9 which explains everything.
will you do a new one including rise of kylo ren, bounty hunters, etc?
Awesome video! Anyone collecting the action figure variant covers by John Tyler Christopher?
Thanks 😁
So interested in reading everything in order, can you get all of these as digital copies as even though I appreciate how amazing it would be to have everything as a physical copy, I can imagine it’s quite hard not to mention the cost
They can all be read on the Marvel Unlimited app - though I think new issues take 6 months to be loaded.
thanks
Thank you !!
Pleasure 😎
You the real MVP
😎😎 thank you good sir
Which comics does it have luke on his solo journeys???
Make a Novel version of thiss or all of cannon novel and comic
Hey please im confused here so when i buy Yoda's secret war ok. I can only find one book that has 144 pages and ij the beginning of the videos there is like 5 or 6 comic book covers does that one that has 144 pages = all the other small ones or how does that work
You should make an updated version with solo
I’ve done one, you can find it linked at the end of this video 😊
Would you recommend getting the physical or digital copies or the comics? I really want to start buying these and I’m not sure to get digital or not
Honestly, I’m a huge fan of buying physical, however, I make one exception when it comes to digital.
First. Looking forward to a good vid
Woo!! Thanks mate.
Did you see the Star Wars stream today, I watched a bit seemed interesting with the Star Wars cast talking about the movie
Haven't yet, plan to watch it in the morning
When are you uploading the February video? This was very helpful and I hope this continues
These certainly will continue, but not on a monthly basis. I plan on having the next volume up soon though (within a couple of weeks)
Dave Lee Down Under Thank you I can't wait and I look forward to watching your new videos as well
Pleasure mate, thanks heaps!
As someone who’s interested in additional parts to this series, I’m wondering how you’d prefer “update” videos to be pieced together?
Two ideas I’m tossing between
•An overview of just the new additions, within context (a short 10 minute video)
•A complete re-upload of this video with the new content added in
Dave Lee Down Under I would say the 10 minute video would work best and just go over when the events take place in Chronological but it's up to you man you always do great with the videos keep up the good work. :).
I have those on PDF view.
Awesome
please update
Anyone know how much would these cost exactly?
We need a 2020 update please :((
episode 2 is set 10 years after episode 1
not set a few months after obi wan and anakin which is 3 years after episode 1
Add novels to this list!
I will eventually
Dave Lee Down Under that’s awesome
I'll probably work on a complete canon when I work on my comics vol 2.
The complete canon will have novels and will show just the comic arcs (not individual issues), so will be more streamlined.
Dave Lee Down Under That’s a good idea. I think it’s even better than this
Can we get 2020 update, just after the las jedi. Cheers
How many comics are there in total?
Pls update it
Yoda’s secret war is kind of confusing. Like isn’t the first time luke learns of yoda in episode 5?
I just got done reading the first darth maul book and just went to read the second one and realised I bought the first book of the son of dathomir😅😅
If Obi-Wan and Anakin takes place 3 years after TPM then it takes place 7 years not "a few months" before AotC also Yoda's Secret Wars and the Darth Maul comics both take place in the same year as TPM
Yes, a mistake I have acknowledged and fixed in my updated and expanded second volume of the timeline.
I shall watch that one instead then
Great vid dave ! were you aware that the villain in the Rebel jail arc was the main character in the first star wars annual ? oh and a few more days till the last jedi ! as anakin would say wizard !!
Yess, I did know that -- completely forgot about that though.
I know! I'm so excited! Two more sleeps for me. Dis a bombad!
its the same for me ! seeing it wed night 11.59pm uk time im stocking up on sweets haha
Wooo, awesome!! How exciting!!!!
Hey, nice video, i also like collecting them in tpb’s, but i live in Chile, and it is very difficult to find them in south america, so it’ll be cool if could tell me where and how you purchased the tpb’s
Hey, thanks man! I import all of mine from Book Depository, they have all of them and for great prices:
www.bookdepository.com/search?searchTerm=STAR+wars+marvel&search=Find+book/?a_aid=DAVELEEDU
Dave Lee Down Under that’s great, i guess i’ll collect them in english then, because they haven’t come out in spanish, at least not all of them, anyways, thank you for the intel, you just won a sub.
Gracias! Much appreciated!! 😁😁
it makes no sense why there's a bunch of Comics set between ANH and TESB, despite it being only a three year period but there's only one comic set between TPM AND AOTC, despite being a ten year period. you can see the OT bias.
Dave Lee Down Under well I guess
Dave Lee Down Under yet even without the main Star Wars comic line, you have lines focusing on single characters such as Vader, Leia, Doctor Aphra, Lando, Chewbacca, Han Solo, and plenty more. Yet there is only two comic lines being in the prequel era, them being ObiWan and Anakin and the Mace Windu comic. There is absolutely no reason we shouldn't be seeing more comic lines set in the prequels when their is 10+ lines set between 4-5. Where's my Qui Gon Jinn Comic dang it??
You do make a good point. I just guess OT stuff sells better than PT stuff.
Ohhhh man, a Qui Gonn comic would be boss!
Tyler Williams exactly
Can you please do one for the novels?
I will incorporate the novels soon
Just a small question, are the Lego games considered canon?
While they're BASED on canon, they're not considered canon themselves. Just as the novelisations of the movies aren't exactly considered canon either.
Hope part 2 of the timeline comes out soon
Very soon. Stay tuned.
Dave Lee Down Under your really good at talking to your audience you are so quick
Thanks mate, I get notifications straight to my phone, so it’s easy to keep up with things.
I believe anyone who’s happy to give me their time deserves mine in return
Thanks for watching!

Dave Lee Down Under The re upload with new stuff added to it
Do I have to read each series or just the ones you called out?
This is every series so far that is included in the current 'canon'. So, you certainly don't need to read any of the earlier stuff.
You don't even need to read everything that I've shown here really, this is just to give you a good idea of what's out there and were it takes place in the continuity of the saga :)
I would love to read them so I can get a better understanding of the star wars characters should I read specific ones or the ones you've mentioned
28:15, I'd rather find out why he has a silver leg, any one?
Anyone know if the movies (at least the Episodes) will available in Trade Paperback in the future?
I hope they will be!!
Dave Lee Down Under the hard covers are terrible.
Hey Dave just wanted to say it’s “max Wilde Just in case u were wondering what this account was!!
Ahhh hello Max! I like the new name 😎
No comic adaptation for The Last Jedi the Movie didn't earn much the Merchandise didn't sold very well
Except there is a comic adaptation and it’s coming out in May.
Then what will happen next?Kylo Ren will return to the light and Rey will become Sith.Well that's the beauty of the Novels,Suspense,As long as George Lucas doesn't wrote the story any more?i don't like it
Where does the new Thrawn comic falls to?
THRAWN comes somewhere between Darth Vader: Dark Lord and the Obi-Wan one-shots
UPDATE THIS!!!!
Hey fans disney is not ruining star wars you ruined it
I did a video on just that topic!
Brah they killed Luke in such pathetic way it's the ones making the comics that make it much better.
15:15
System overload
So all of vol.5 about Yodas mission right?
And is the top of the timeline where the bigger books are are they all of them combined or the first one?
Can you do an updated 2018 video
Actually working on it at the moment - should be up over the next day or two
SO let me get this straight, there are to Vader comics (one post sith movie, and a second after new Hope). I don't get it.
Thanks but, it all begins with Dawn of the Jedi. Right?
Sadly, Dawn of the Jedi is no longer considered canon. It’s now part of “Legends”
