    When my mom died I took her favorite tea cup to the funeral and asked my two adult children if they wanted to hand write a note to their grannie to be placed in her tea cup along with her in her coffin. It was the ultimate “Priority Mail” and it felt so good to do it. One more thing, about 2 weeks before my mom passed, around 10:30 that night we had a loving conversation like no other. We asked forgiveness from each other for any and all hurtful comments or actions done in the past, said an Act of Contrition to God for our sins and said the Our Father tiger. After that, we discussed exactly which of her beautiful nightgowns, when the time came, would she want to be buried. After that conversation, I fixed us both a cup of tea, had some shortbread and continued watching The Nanny, Golden Girls and THEN M.A.S.H., which was our nightly routine when I came home on weekends. Her in her hospital bed in the living room and me in the easy chair beside her; Precious Memories. I am so glad we had that time and conversation before she passed, as I didn’t make it back to my childhood home in time to say a final “goodbye”. I hate I missed that and kind of felt a little robbed. I felt there had to be something I could do to fix that feeling. I figured the last thing I could physically do for her was to curl her hair, apply her makeup and spray her down with her favorite cologne (Clinique Original). I called the funeral home for permission, which was granted, so off I went with curling iron and makeup bag in tow. As the mortician looked on, I did my thing, talking to my mom as I worked and was also able to say my goodbye. She left this earthly world, not only looking beautiful, but smelling great; whole funeral home smelled like Clinique! That was 16 years ago and have never regretted my decision. Rest In Perfect Peace Mom💕.

    My dad passed in 2007 due to plaque blocking his heart (primary cause) and diabetes mellitus plus chrones disease being contributing factors. There was a full autopsy done including the head. Coroner's case because he died unexpectedly at home (we live in the UK).
    The funeral director desided it was a great idea to tell me, a 27 year old woman dealing with the death of her father on her own, that I wasn't to touch my father's head during the viewing because I would knock the top of his skull off.....I know this is not correct now but at the time it freaked me out. Not only that the funeral home kept trying to get me to pay for things that weren't needed or wanted by me or my father (from things he said in the past)....the bloke kept on saying things like "you loved your dad so you want the best."
    If I had listened to the funeral director it would have been a full embalm, top range coffin, horse drawn carriage...the works!
    My dad wanted simple, non religious cremation and scatter his remains (and he specified all of him whole) back to the sea. I made sure he got it. Xx

    When my grandma passed away, my mum and aunt were getting her ready with the funeral home, and they asked for her teeth . My mum found them and sent them off with grandma . 1 week later on the day of the funeral, we discovered they weren't grandmas teeth, but they were grandads teeth 🤦‍♀️ xxxx

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi David, we use a ring cutter and cut the ring off with families permission first. I would imagine any jewelers would have ring cutters if you need one. Also I use thread and moisturising cream if the fingers are just slightly swollen, cover the finger with the cream loop the thread and the ring then turn the ring around and around the finger with the tread while gentle pulling the ring down the finger till it comes off. Hope these tip can help you. Take care 😊💚

    Out of curiosity this 1 is coming all the way from South Africa💃💃 what happens with burn victims?if a person has been burnt beyond recognition n when the person has 3rd degree burns that even the skin is falling off?

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello out in Beautiful South Africa.
      Not much can be done for bodies that are burnt to the point they is no skin on. The body is usually to but it bluntly charged blackened and crisp like a piece of meat left on the BBQ for to long. It's very traumatic to see. But I would wash down the body, then cover the body in an autopsy gel to slow down the decomposition and wrap the body with clinical hospital pads then wrap in a sheet and placed into a coffin or casket for the funeral service. Thank you for your question take care 💚💚

    Hello, T&T! I have a question that's been bugging me for the past year, or so. Over here in Northern Ireland, or perhaps even the entire United Kingdom, before a coffin is lowered into the grave, the Council staff apply a thing called a 'coffin pad' which is essentially a thin purple, full-length cushion held in place with elastic/ribbon ties around the top and tail of the coffin. I have found out the name on Wikipedia, but it doesn't tell us WHY a coffin pad IS USED. Perhaps you could enlighten me....I'd be so grateful ❤

    I’m so giving the finger hack for my grumpy dad 😂😂😂 what do you do for drowning victims that are found like a day later ? We had a local 4 yr old that ran from a playground last night when the grandfather took a phone call. He was found late today 2 miles away in Boston harbor. Autistic and was totally non verbal. They get bloated ?

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no Tracy that's so very sad 😢 poor young boy.
      You know someone times it can be surprised and I can get people in that were found in water 2 or 3 days after death and are not bloated at all and some can be. But I'd bloated I would raise the arms and legs and make tiny incision into the limbs and leave overnight and a ton of water will have drained out of the skin bringing down the swelling and then I would also aspirated the torso to bring down the swelling too. Thank you for your question. Have a great weekend 💚💚😍

    Tracey, have you read Josephine Price Powell's "working with the Dead"? I think she is a North Eastener like yourself. Fascinating storey! Also my uncle was a Mortuary Tech during the "troubles" in Northern Ireland. He said that he used to rebuild heads after Bombings or after multiple GSW'S with papier mache. Is this still a thing? another one is what's the usual wake!/burial time in Oz? We have 3 days with the deceased at home then burial. England often have weeks between and usually don't bring their family member home but wake them at the undertakers. Just wondered how Australia deals in comparison? Thanks ❤️

      Oh no never heard of that book. I have read lots of other but not that one and a local girl from the north, will definitely check it out, thanks. Oh wow that's definitely old fashioned reconstruction work on the heads. Oh wow he would have seen so much trauma in his time 😔
      I use plaster of Paris, modelling clay and latex followed by airbrush makeup. We have so many different cultures here in Queensland Australia that guide of funeral services. Mostly it's a simple service in a chapel or church with a celebrant or priest. Viewing main do just before the service and it's 90% cremations. But we have other cultures like for instance Samoan these families will have there loved ones embalmed and take them home for a few days to a week then the service after. So we have a mixture of all kinds of service. Thank you for your question and your information on the book I will looked it up for sure 😊 💚💚

    Why don't funeral homes let families know that they can do the hair, dressing and makeup etc themselves. We found out after the fact. They charge3d over 100 dollars just to put my mom's hair in a bun. Like less than 5 minutes and charge that much. A rip off

      Hi Sandra, sorry to hear this. I have never heard of a funeral home charging separate for doing hair, it should be all part of the preparation. I colour hair and cut hair if family requests this (no extra cost as all). Also our funeral home will and have always informed family that they can do hair make and dress they deceased loved one if they wanted too. Thanks for your comments take care 💚

    I always thought mind why weren’t we asked if we wanted my Aunties false teeth put in, nothing was ever mentioned they weren’t even with her as she had taken them out the day she died in the house. I just thought oh maybe it’s not a done thing, learn something new everyday.

      Hi, you know it's not really a think when people die from hanging and if the neck is slightly out of normal range we ask the family for clothing that would disguise this kind of trauma. Thank you for your question take care 💚
