Thanks for some great content but unfortunately DJI in their terrific wisdom stopped supporting the Pilot PE app and it will not connect to or show maps on the Mavic 2 smart controller.
What do you use for the camera settings when using the Mavic 2 Pro? It isn't listed in the available models. Do you choose a particular model with a matching camera, or a custom camera? If so, what are the settings?
Hi Randy! I took your and Stacy's DJI Aerial Photography Academy class in Pittsburgh last year. I thought it was an outstanding class! I have the Mavic 2 Pro with the Smart Controller. I followed Kerry's instructions from this awesome video and everything (install and setup wise) went smooth as butter! Pilot PE displays the correct "Mavic 2 Pro" at startup, and I was able to create a custom camera setting (thanks to the replies to this video). The only issue I've found is when I run the Pilot PE, the altitude reads only in meters. Even switching all of the setting I could find to Imperial (it does display MPH), but it still shows altitude in meters. Have you or anyone you know tried using Pilot PE with the Smart Controller? I was hoping to do some very simple mapping... if I'm using the correct term. I'd like to use Adobe Lightroom to stitch the images together the way you taught us in class to create a single image of an outdoor shooting range. Just an image, no data or info is needed. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you may have!

It's been several years but I just purchased the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom smart controller. I have seen a number of unboxing videos of people getting theirs and they would get in the box a USB-C cable and a Power Adaptor. When I got mine last week there wasn't a power adaptor. DJI told me they don't include it. It seems when you pay this much for a Smart Controller you could at least put in a $5.00 power adaptor wouldn't you ?

I use DJI Pilot with the smart controller and a mavic 2 pro. It's a great combination, but... it's so annoying that you can't set a take off altitude and survey altitude separately, e.g. take off at the top of a hill, and fly a grid lower down the hill. Would also be great if there was some form of terrain awareness, even if that was only to manually input heights for corners of the survey polygon.

Two questions however we experienced. #1 Even though with Custom Unlock done by DJI, it still not able to fly in control airspace as there is no option to import the Unlock License from Pilot PE. It does on Pilot and GO4. We have Pilot PE V1.8.0pe. #2 on the top right of the screen, left of the 3 hori bars/lines icon, the Signal Strength icon has is "Stop Sign" on it. Why and what is it means? Thanks very much for your input.
Just an update... When you run the app on the smart controller and choose the mapping mission flight option, you specify the camera type and there is no option for the mavic pro 2 only the zoom. This happens even though the app shows it is connected to the pro 2 when it first starts. Someone else brought this up in the comments as well. Any updates how this can be corrected?
All I had to do was Google the camera specs. Once you do that you just make a custom camera setup and input all the camera information manually. Works great

So helpful, thank you. I am going to be mapping a coral reef in Australia and I have done everything you suggest. I have the app on my SC but because it is a small island it is not showing up on the mapbox map and so I can't see it to plan my missions. I wish I could upload a georeferenced map into the DJI Pilot and work from there.
I did a work around by manually flying my Mavic 2 Pro and doing a timed photo at 1.5 seconds. Uploaded to my DD account and it worked fine. Only downside is the manual vs automated flight. Upside is I was able to make multiple pics of high interest areas for better resolution.

If you don’t have your SC connected to a hotspot or other internet connection, you won’t get maps in the field. You can download and cache maps (search DJI videos for more info).
Same problem. I have internet access and can see maps in DJ Go4 but cannot access maps in PE. It has worked before in the past. Seems an update dropped compatibility?

Hi I have a mavic pro2, I would like to be able to calculate the volume of a stock following the information that the drone will provide me. What are the best applications to use for the capture and the calculation of the volume.
You can also side load the Google's Playstore for android onto the smart controller and have access to other apps that will run on android onthe smart controller, such as Litchi which will also fly your drone and others. There are TH-cam videos out there that walks through how to install the Google play store. Side note - DJI doesn't support this but it works - and DJI at one of their shows some years ago had the play store loaded on one of their own smart controllers whether it was an official instal from them or installed by one of their employees I don't know, but it still works with no problems.

Four years after posting this video, but I hope I get an answer! I had been doing mapping using DroneDeploy with my M2P, using a Samsung Tablet, because I was told that I can't use DroneDeploy with my Smart Controller. I have absolutely no experience with Pilot PE, and the industrial company I am contracting with uses DD. I've read somewhere that it's possible to load DD into the Smart Controller, but can't find the instructions. What and How can I do it? Or how do I use Pilot PE to incorporate into DD???

If you don't have the Diji smart controller there is a piolet app on apple app store but when i try to use it with Diji Mavic pro it says that aircraft not supported do you have to get the dji smart controller or anderoid iphone

From what I read, DJI has basically made Pilot PE incompatible with the Mavic 2 Pros, i.e., turned off Mapbox. I've downloaded DJI Pilot (no PE on the end) and it seems it may work. You have to set a custom camera in the menu and input your camera's specs. I haven't flown with it yet, so caveat emptor!
@@emctv I am having the same problem with the blank map. I downloaded DJI Pilot (no PE on the end) and it seemed to work just fine. But then when I turned my smart controller off, then back on, the DJI Pilot app (no PE on the end) app had deleted itself from my apps on the smart controller!

I hated having to bring a second controller and iPad to job sites and flipping between the two. DJI puzzles me sometimes. Shouldn't be difficult to get pre-installed mapping app with this premium priced product. Thank you again!
The mapping app is pre-installed, just turned off. It's turned on when you use an "enterprise" drone. It's possible with a command to turn the built-in one on, but it turns off DJI go when you do it.
@@ParkerHarrington You have to install android adb (which is for android debugging). The command is "adb shell setprop persist.dji.role 2" I should probably write a program that does this automatically.
With a standard controller and iPad you can use the DJI Pilot App, DJI GS Pro, DroneDeploy, Pix4DCapture, or Map Pilot. There are plenty of options when using an iPad.
Can't figure out the settings for Mavic 2 Pro. Photos look good but stitching quality isn't ideal. Edit: also extremely limited in that you can only shoot 90° nadir images. Hard to believe DJI makes such terrible solutions for mapping for such an expensive remote. No reason it shouldn't be unlocked either.

I selected Phantom Pro 4, but when the app started and connected to the drone it recognized the drone model and camera with no issues

You could import the kml file of your area into your mapping mission

this worked for me however the map will not populate to set up the flight path. Map populates just fine with dji go 4 but wont with pilot 2......

Yes. I like using Pix4D Capture. Its a free app that is excellent for this.

@@emctv I am having the same problem with the blank map. I downloaded DJI Pilot (no PE on the end) and it seemed to work just fine. But then when I turned my smart controller off, then back on, the DJI Pilot app (no PE on the end) app had deleted itself from my apps on the smart controller!

@Ted Crete I don't see that nope. My settings are altitude, speed, overlap, angle, margin, and a couple others. I don't see camera angle.
in the links it says that goes for Mavic 2 enterprice series, not for Mavic 2 pro....would it work?

@@Alvitus yes, then it worked using the PE one, i was not getting the proper one...i would recommend you to download chrome browser as the native one is not supported by some sites, for example github
an someone please tell me how to make it so it downloads to my smart controller, because as of nowit only wants to download to my phone please help!!!!
You need to open the browser on your smart controller, not the browser on your phone.

Problem solved. Reset the smart controller from factory and the app was installed!
What are you saying here? Are you saying you don't have to go through the procedure he outlined in this video, and only do a factory reset?
You may have to do this if you couldn't install Pilot PE, after resetting the controller, Pilot PE should be able to be installed.

Can't believe it's taken me this long to figure out a solution for mapping with my Smart Controller.
I hated having to bring a second controller and iPad to job sites and flipping between the two.
DJI puzzles me sometimes. Shouldn't be difficult to get pre-installed mapping app with this premium priced product.

The mapping app is pre-installed, just turned off. It's turned on when you use an "enterprise" drone. It's possible with a command to turn the built-in one on, but it turns off DJI go when you do it.

@@ParkerHarrington You have to install android adb (which is for android debugging).
The command is "adb shell setprop persist.dji.role 2"
I should probably write a program that does this automatically.

Make sure your firmware is current on your SmartController, you may need to connect it to your computer and run the PC Assistant software.

What about with Dji controller/iPad?
With a standard controller and iPad you can use the DJI Pilot App, DJI GS Pro, DroneDeploy, Pix4DCapture, or Map Pilot. There are plenty of options when using an iPad.
Can't figure out the settings for Mavic 2 Pro. Photos look good but stitching quality isn't ideal.
Edit: also extremely limited in that you can only shoot 90° nadir images. Hard to believe DJI makes such terrible solutions for mapping for such an expensive remote. No reason it shouldn't be unlocked either.

A little less expensive question: What the fastest way to get vids/ pics off the Drone to an iPad Pro? EDIT: “PE” means “Private Edition” That’s wut the app told me anyway 😬 Edit again: works great!
