@@michaelgum97 These have existed in various forms for years. Back in the day big firms would scan paper CVs using optical character recognition against a list of key words and then read the 10% or so that came out. The key words could change. They still do this with electronic CVs but LLM AIs let them look at 'sentiment' scores, etc. as well as just the isolated words, so they can score each CV against a percentage.
Training the LLM AI is part of that, so they need a stack of data. You guessed it, they're not actually hiring, they just want applications to process and train the LLM.

Americans companies will set unachievable standards, make miserable working conditions, not pay workers enough, make hiring and keeping your job a complete pain to do, and than they have the audacity to pretend young people are just lazy and don't want to work as if they're not the problem.

They promised you a job, you relied on that promise of a job and quit your old one, and then suffered a loss when they reneged. You can then usually claim damages for that. Same for if you move closer to your upcoming job, or drop the classes you were taking, etc.

@@kannonpq Oh how wrong you are. How very wrong you are. You're correct in that they can fire you at any time, but wrong about that protecting them from detrimental reliance claims. Detrimental reliance applies in a lot more cases than just a job offer. Anywhere a reasonable person would think it's a reasonable idea to rely on another's promise, it can apply when that promise is revoked and the claimant suffered a loss due to relying on it.
"I can have your car ready for you to drive to work on monday" "I'll pay you before your rent is due next friday" "You won't be asked to work during the two weeks your vacation has been approved for", "Your reservation for a hotel room on the 14th has been confirmed" etc. All of those are promises that a reasonable person would be willing to rely on.
But if your car isn't ready when you'd agreed to have it ready, or you miss your rent bc your boss didn't pay you on time, or your vacation is cancelled after you've booked a flight and a place to stay, or your hotel reservation got double booked and so you have nowhere to stay, you've got a case. That's why most of the time there's compensation for an overbooked flight/hotel - it's either that or get sued into the ground.

I have a theory as to why companies ask for so much info about your family/family's history is because they're feeding it through some sort of algorithm, or A.I., that's taking in that information to try and determine your "history". I think I remember a story where a resume consultant...advisor...person who helps people better structure their resume said to put down that they played lacrosse in high school to help at least land an interview. The reasoning being that the company was using an A.I. to scan resumes to single out more "desireable" applicants. But, the reference resumes that were given to the A.I. where from decades of hiring *_rich_* white people who most likely would have played lacrosse in high school.
Again, just a theory from a story I may be half remembering. But companies trying to obtain as much of your personnel history instead of you academic/working history in order to determine if you fit their idea of what a good employee via an automated system sounds like something they'd do.

I felt that graphic at the end.
Australia has a really nasty unemployment benefits system, have to apply for a certain number of jobs each month, have to physically go into the city for a face to face meeting every fortnight where they just mark you present then you leave, and if you don't get a job fast enough you're sentenced to community service right alongside drunk drivers and the like.
I've applied for thousands of jobs, occasionally getting temporary work but nothing long term.
It's so much more work than having a job is, and on top of everything you're always worried about what the next change in the unemployment benefits is going to bring and just hoping you manage to get enough worked hours in the year to avoid the community service sentencing.
(A lot of the 'community service' requirements aren't met by doing actual community service, they do things like dump a bunch of rice on the floor and get you to pick it up, or get a whole bunch of beads and glitter from a craft store, mix it all up, and get you to sort it out.
You're lucky of you get told to pick up rubbish by the road, at least that is a real thing that needs doing.)
Bonus info, Australia offers a tax rebate for business that hire someone off unemployment for the first few months, depending on the industry the business can claim up to 100% of the wages.
Also there are currently 26 unemployed Australian's for every job opening.
So the usual practice for businesses is to hire someone for a few months, get the government to pay for it, and when the tax rebate runs out, fire them and hire someone else to start it over again.

I talked with one of my old friends who used to be my supervisor, until he got a promotion and they moved him to a different location, and he told me for internal candidates, it is required for them to at least give you an interview. I’m not sure if the US has it too but here you can learn some jobs at a company (If these companies ever respond to your application). Well it’s not really motivating to be treated like a lesser being while getting paid less than minimum wage. Combine that with the money being worth a lot less than it used to be and costs like rent and food having exploded. Then it’s no mystery anymore
And when you’re let go because you’re not mentally stuck in the 50‘s you’ll have two options. 1. Apply to companies directly and don’t get a response. 2. Apply to a company that lends you to the companies that didn’t respond but only for a few months at a time and worse pay.

It would force more places to actually try to bring people in and posting for hiring when they actually need it. Additionally, we need to stop with this range BS. If your range say $17-30, its 17 and that is what they should put with something like "If selected starting pay may be higher" without putting an actual amount cause we all know that places only do that to get the people looking at higher wages to look at their posting.

And I had to suffer that for another 3 months with threats of being fired because I'm immunocompromised and get sick often, I kept searching for a new job after putting in more applications, even did it the old fashioned way and walked through town for applications.
Thankfully I've found a new job that is a great fit for me, the pay is fantastic, the environment is *chefs kiss*, and its not fast food! It was incredibly lucky, and I'm thankful for this job always

I'm going through this bull right now. So annoying. For an entry level job I can do remote (health issues and don't have a car or license) for like literally logging in data, it needs like 5 years experience doing it. How am I supposed to get experience if there is no way to? Like, I wish it could be random experience, because at least then I could use my art commissions I've done as experience, but nope. Even if I set my own rates and manage my time well, it's not "enough"

11:30 all I can tell you is to always, ALWAYS ask for a work contract as soon as possible when you get a position. A contract is the only thing protecting you. And for the love of everything, never quit your previous job before you have a contract, a solid one, for the next job.

I had trouble getting a job out of college. YEARS rolled by, that freaking gap man...I was worried.
Then decided to list my time house/dog sitting that I occasionally did as well as the times I went to someone's house to clip their cat/dog's nails and boom I don't have a gap, I was a mobile pet groomer and house/pet sitter all that time. I had a select clientele (family lol) so how would they even check and it covered my gap from random times I helped family.
    I even had references! lol

Back when I was in my early 20's I really wanted to find a job. My dad, who had been working at Chrysler for about 25+ years, literally told me all I had to do was walk into any store, demand an application and/or ask to talk to the manager, and they would basically hire me on the spot.... Can ya guess how well that worked out? =P

To be honest, some money is better then no money. The best thing to do is get a job of any type (as long as it pays the bills, even if you have to make sacrifices) while your looking for the job you want or are most qualified for. The nice thing is the crappy low pay jobs are fine to flat out walk out from too. I got an interview with Walmart (I was looking for a second job) and got hired. Halfway through the orientation, I decided I had no desire to work there (every question they asked and every test I purposely gave the worst answers and still was hired) and I walked out of orientation. Even waved to the manager as I walked out. I went home and never heard a word afterwards other then getting a check in the mail for a 6 hour day (the length of the orientation). A few years later, Walmart lost a class action lawsuit for failing to pay overtime. They had to pay out a certain amount of money to every employee who worked for them during a certain time period. The amount was based of the years you worked there. I received a check. All in all it ended up being the most money I ever made in 3 hours. I essentially made about $130/hr working for Walmart.

My take on college and some companies that list it as an expectation: they don't care what someone learned to earn that degree, they know an applicant that went to college likely accumulated a debt they won't soon pay off, so they won't be retiring young/at all and will need to commit more years working for them.
Not to say all college education is a scam, but many companies are predatory!

My grandfather used to tell he couldn’t understand why I couldn’t afford a house making $10/hr in 2007. He kept saying that he only made $7.50/he at his highest pay rate. I never really said anything but $7.50/per hour in 1975 (the last year he worked before he got injured) was the equivalent to $35/ hr in 2007 money. He also used to tell me and my father also still says the same thing that if they lost their job on Friday, they would start a new job by Monday. That only happened to me 1 time in my life. I had quit a fast food job and went to work at a printing company for more money. It didn’t work out and I was about to get my fast food job back the same day I lost the printing company job. I was 19 and fresh out of high school.

the moment you are 16+ and lose your first job ..it is easier to start your own business than to get a different job within 3-4 months.
the difficulty only increases the older you get.

That last point is so true in Engineering. A lot of the older guys were hired with no degree and little experience. They're great at their jobs now of course (most anyway), but these days starting out it seems like you have to have 5x the knowledge for a tenth of the chance to get a job.

My mum was going to leave a job she had been at for 18 years. She went in for her first day, she hadn't heard anything from them which she thought was a bit odd, but she hadn't worked anywhere else for close to 2 decades so she just went in anyway. She gets there and finds out they've already hired someone else because they found out she had some debt. (she was going to work at a bank.) they didn't tell her that was a problem just decided to go with someone else. Thankfully her old job took her back.

5:10 If you can handle cleaning minor grime occasionally and wiping surfaces or dry-mopping all day, be a janitor! Not only does it likely pay pretty good, you get FUCKING JACKED pushing that cart around all day. No one wants to have to do it, and it's kinda boring, sure, but it requires taking absolutely zero Karen Bullshit in any capacity. I worked Janitorial at an entry-level position at a Movie Theatre; Dustpan and Drymop, 2 passes per aisle, maybe 3. I could get a whole theatre clean of popcorn and debris in 30 minutes or less. The worst part was finding music to listen to to not go insane from the monotony, which, in the age of The Internet, is 2 hours to find 73 new songs for the playlist, especially with as wide of Tastes as I have. I genuinely enjoy Halestorm, Toto's Africa, Safety Dance, Wierd Al Yankovic, Skillet, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, dozens of Video Game Songs, and multiple tracks from Pacific Rim or JoJo's Bizzare Adventures, so I have a WIDE pool to pull from, but I digress.
Point is, Janitor Duty is NOWHERE NEAR as bad as it seems, gets you jacked, and lets you listen to music and not have to deal with a SINGLE customer.

Did you know a lot of companies now require credit checks these days? I’m a guy who never had student loan debt thanks to my grandfather, nor credit card debt as I only used debit. Because of this, I had no credit history. But as it turns out, this also means that the companies who run background checks, the ones you sign to let them reach out and verify your social security number and all that, yeah, couldn’t verify my number because I didn’t have a credit history.
