14:30 gas station skimmers, you can tell it's probably a skimmer because the edges around the card swipe looks all ripped up. If the card reader looks more banged up than regular wear and tear or looks like it doesn't fit the machine properly, go inside to pay and report it. Someone's they'll blatantly modify the existing reader, sometimes they'll put a camera by the pin keyboard and stuff. One of those things where if the gut check is off, don't bite or keep an eye on your bank account

We think of scammers as idiots who can’t even formulate a proper sentence but that’s all part of it. Us demonstrating we can easily see past their scam is precisely the information they want off us.

I’ve gotten that “I filmed you through your webcam” email and honestly, if they have somehow created a program that can see through a physical webcam cover and create a deepfake at the same time, maybe they should try to earn money by selling that instead.

So we she got the call she was done, the accepted the call and put the phone right next to my sisters mouth and the scammer immediately hung up, I laughed so hard
For skimmers can check couple things - does the thing you put your card in move or come off easily (don't like strong arm the thing, you don't want to have to pay to fix stuff)? Talk to attendant (or bank if atm). Does it look significantly newer or more weathered than what it's on? Talk to attendant/bank if atm. Only exception being if there is signage in advance of a planned change, and that the change has happened, but if concerned, talk with attendant/bank. Weird lights or the machine doesn't work right once your card is in, again attendant/bank. In all cases also keep an eye on your statements, if you can put a hold on the card unless you like got gas/made a purchase. This is not exhaustive and is as of about a decade ago, but couple things that can be looked at.
If you want to test a scanner for a skimmer just pull on it and it will likely come right off as they want it to be easy to put on and remove since they usually go do an actual transaction and then slide the skimmer on it during the transaction only to come back later and remove it during another transaction.... Except for that one that was a 2nd card reader with the sticker pointing to use it. That one might've been more securely attached, but I don't think so. Also just be wary it can happen in stores with cameras as I recently had my SSI card skimmed at an ATM within a Walgreens where there's usually security standing within 3-5 feet constantly watching the doors that the ATM was right next to. I make sure to pull on the reader every time I use an ATM these days.
Ok so dont refund that money cause they can cancle it then make you pay it back. Dont spend or refund it cause it will be on you. And never open any links you get they will try and hack you.

Also fun fact my dad recently bought a landline phone as he's getting his WiFi transferred from his old living space. And decided since landline is inclided in the offer to get it up and running. This phone has a function where it tells the caller to input a code when calling it. To stop pre recorded telemarketing calls. Because a pre recorded machine wouldn't be able to input a code. This is great for the elderly.
