For me he was not only the best fielding 3rd baseman ever, but the best fielding infielder. Ever. His 16 gold gloves are the most in MLB history by any position player. Oh.. and add in 18 All-Stars for good measure. When I was a kid, when I filled out my all-star ballot for the AL, Brooks was absolutely automatic without a second thought. RIP.

About 15 years ago I worked at a golf club here in Baltimore and was fishing one of the ponds one evening with my nephew. Brooks was there fishing with his granddaughter. While we're fishing a woman ran off the road opposite the pond and struck a tree. She was somewhat injured but more shaken up, and despite another motorist and me being there, Brooks stayed with the woman until police and an ambulance arrived. I'm not sure I have ever seen someone more genuinely concerned for another person's well-being than Brooks was for that woman. You'll hear a lot of people say how nice, polite, and/or humble a man Brooks Robinson was, but more than that, he genuinely cared about the people around him: family, fans, complete strangers who had no idea who he was...
Brooks Robinson epitomized the Orioles and the Oriole Way. Brooks Robinson also was Mr. Oriole before Cal Ripken. Probably better known as "The Human Vacuum Cleaner" for his continous magician like fielding plays at third base. Yet, Brooks Robinson amassed more than 2,800 career hits. Whenever I attended game at the old Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, Brooks Robinson always was available to sign an autograph.
I met him in the mid-90's. After I asked him a few questions, he asked me several questions about me and seemed truly interested in hearing about my somewhat average life. Brooks was a true class act.
Born in 1960 in Michigan and being a Tigers fan it was easy to know who Brooks Robinson was. Back then most players played with just 1 team and it is easy to follow members of other teams. Rest in peace Brooks

Back in the early 2000s I saw Brooks at Towson Sports Medicine. He was the most kind hearted, down to earth LEGEND. He loved people and would always take the time to talk.

He made a tough position to play as most hitters are right-handed and those balls come right at your nose or curve just outside your reach pretty darn fast. Not to mention wicked hops or english on the ball. He was a master and knew the fundamentals cold. Cannon of an arm and a coiled spring of his torso muscles! Class act all the way. Need more players in all sports like him. At least in Heaven , baseball lasts all year round and there are no pebbles in the basepath for bad hops.

He broke this Reds fan's heart in 1970 but after a very short while with him it was impossible to not be infected with his enthusiasm and love for the game he played so well. I saw Brooks play many games in the late 60's and 70's. The only time I wanted to see the O's lose a game was during the 1970 World Series. My sister had tickets to game 7 for my brother and me. RIP Mr. Robinson.

I was a Reds fan who hated the fact that he was so good in beating my young Big Red Machine in the 1970 World Series, but he was so nice during interviews. There was just something about him that I wanted to emulate off the field that my Pastor told us about - about treating others the way we would want to be treated, and much more. Brooks reminded me somewhat of a Preacher -- who could play third base and hit in the clutch! I met Mr. Robinson in the Spring of 1980, and he couldn't have been nicer. He thanked me for stopping by to see him and get his autograph back then, and I left the restaurant, shocked! He was so nice - I just didn't feel the sting of that 1970 World Series anymore. If someone had to beat my Reds back then, glad it was Brooks! I sent Brooks an Email years later while serving in the Army and deployed, and he had the patience and kindness to take several minutes to respond to me, even thanking me for my service. What a gentleman! I wish I could have spent more time just talking baseball with him - I would have gladly just listened to his knowledge, and kept my mouth shut. I am just thankful that such a gentleman lived, and sad that he's gone - RIP, Sir - This grateful Kid thanks you. By the way - as for the 1970 World Series: That incredible MVP Performance and All - I am PROUD that Brooks Robinson Won the MVP - It couldn't have happened to a BETTER MAN!
Sparky Anderson was so amazed by Brooks that he came into the Oriole locker room during the post game celebration just to congratulate Brooks on his performance. Sparky had a lot of class for making that gesture to Brooks.😊

One Sunday afternoon in particular that I remember., it was a Sunday afternoon doubleheader and somehow we got seats almost on the field on the left. line a little bit behind the third base area., I don’t know how that happened, but I never questioned fake. That day I saw Brooks Robinson make two errors., And that afternoon I saw him make three of those unbelievable Brooks Robinson, Fielding clays that one has to wonder how somebody could do that. The man was a true good human being, and a fabulous baseball player, and a true ambassador to the game of baseball.. R.IP
This is really a sad day, and not just for baseball. I'm going to feel a loss I usually reserve for players on my two favorite teams - the Cardinals and Tigers. Lots of good third basemen have played Major League baseball, but no one did it better. And he was well-rounded at bat, not a power hitter but he was tough to get out. If the Orioles were going to be on TV in his day, you turned it on pointedly to see Brooks Robinson play.
The first celebrity I ever had a legit conversation with was Brooks Robinson. Brooks loved his fans as much as he loved the game itself. He was humble, charitable with his time, energy and money and extremely wise. He.was a spectacle all on his own at third base. Fans would come to see what Brooks Robinson would do next on a baseball field, whether it be a line shot deep in the left-centee gap or. posted up at the hot corner, he dives into some kind of acrobatic ninjitsu sleight of hand trick, shot out of a cannon to Boog Powell, who uses every bit of unexpected flexibility to reach out and meet the ball just before dirt poofs up from the hitter's cleats running through the first place bag. I never got to see it in real life. Only replays. The year that he was inducted to the Hall of Fane is the last year the Baltimore Orioles won a World Series, which I also don't remember. My oldest memory, however, was from the celebratory parade following the triumph over the Phillies in 5 games that October Orioles baseball was my first love. I grew up on stories from my father about Hank Bauer and Earl Weaver's spectacular Orioles teams that were so successful, basically for Brooks' career and more. He was a respectable role model in an age where money didn't rule as much as tradition and hard work. The Orioles and the fanbase lost a member of our family yesterday. Let's remember him every day for everything he was amd will forever be known as. R.I.P. Brooks Robinson

My son and I met him in 2016. He was a generous humble man with his time and treated my son, a young baseball player of third base, very tenderly. I will always appreciate the effort that he showed to my young boy. Brooks, you will be missed!

I have been a massive Orioles fan since 1982 when I was four years old. One Saturday morning in 1992, when I was 13 and going on 14 if my math is correct (look, I’m old and I suck at math, okay?) my parents woke me up early and told me to grab my baseball and Brooks Robinson cards because he was doing an autograph session at the White Marsh Mall in Baltimore County. It was a surprise and man, it wound up being a fun day. Because my dad has to be at least half an hour to an hour early for *everything* we were the first people there. Brooks and his assistant got there about five minutes or so after we did and got ready for the day. He said that he had overslept a little, and by the state of his hair he was telling the truth! He brushed his hair and buttoned his polo shirt while talking to his assistant and to my mom, dad, and myself. When my mom pulled out her camera from her purse Brooks’ assistant said (nicely, not at all mean) that “Mr. Robinson won’t be taking pictures today”. Brooks said “Nah, we can. Do you want to take a picture with me, kid? Come here!” and he put his arm around my shoulders for the photo and he beamed a kind smile that not even the greatest actor in the history of humankind could have faked. He signed my baseball, a couple of his baseball cards, and a couple of large photos from his playing days. About nine years later I sadly had to sell all of my baseball cards and autographs in order to buy my infant daughter baby formula and diapers. Obviously she’s worth it, but I still miss having my cards and memorabilia. I do still have the picture that my mom took of Brooks and I; it’s somewhere in one of my old photo albums. Though I am now 45 years old I still remember that Saturday morning at the White Marsh Mall as if it happened last week, and I never forgot how *genuinely kind and caring* Brooks was; he made a massive impression on a 13 year old boy that a 45 year old man has never forgotten. Not only was Brooks Robinson the greatest third baseman in baseball history, he was also a wonderful man. Rest well, Mr. Robinson. May the Lord ease your loved ones’ sorrow and fill their minds with only the best of memories. I look forward to the day when I get to meet you again.
I went to a lot of base- ball card shows over the years. Brooks was with- out a doubt the nicest former player I ever got an autograph from. He made you feel like you weren't just a nameless, faceless, fan; but some- one who honored him by wanting his signature. Big smile/ polite attitude/ pleasant demeanor. Brooks will always be a legend in Baltimore. Everywhere for that matter. I’ve had the pleasure to meet him at signing around town when I was younger and he was the nicest man you could ever meet. You would never know you were talking to the best 3rd baseman of all times. So sad to see another Baltimore legend go but this city is so grateful to have gotten to watch him h him play all those years. Obviously he stopped playing before I was born but not knowing #5 in this town is like not ratting crabs it doesn’t happen 😂😂. RIP Brooks.

I'm a Reds fan, especially the Big Red Machine. Brooks Robinson always cared about his work and gave it everything he could. The Orioles clearly were a great team back then; Brooks and Frank Robinson both played a huge part in that. Rest in Peace Brooks and Frank.
As a kid growing up watching baseball in the 60’s and 70’s there were two things you could count on. At the beginning of each season you could pencil in Brooks as the AL all star 3b starter and Bill Freehan of the Tigers as the AL starting catcher. Brooks was a human vacuum cleaner. After the 70 series all Johnny Bench could do was shake his head in amazement. Brooks robbed him at least three times in that series. Great player and person. RIP Brooks. A life well lived!

The Orioles were the great nemesis of my childhood Yankees teams, but it was impossible not to admire the great Brooks Robinson. Don't know if he was the greatest fielding third baseman ever, but there was no one better.

I will hit 60 early next year and feel blessed and priviledged to have seen sports heroes like Brooks, Mays, Unitas, O.J., Havlicek, West, Chamberlain and a host of other great players. I was young and it gave me a great foundation of trying my best at whatever I did and appreciating teamwork and no racial barriers. I grew up and have lived my entire life in the Bay Area and have nothing but fond memories of my sports heroes. It makes me sad to lose them but the happy memories flood back along with the sadness. These guys all went about their business without showboating or mugging for the cameras after every routine play. Thank you Brooks, you were the best to play the hot corner.

I was fortunate enough to see Brooks Robinson play a number of times back in the early 70s up at Fenway Park. He was absolutely something to watch.! One Sunday afternoon in particular that I remember., it was a Sunday afternoon doubleheader and somehow we got seats almost on the field on the left. line a little bit behind the third base area., I don’t know how that happened, but I never questioned fake. That day I saw Brooks Robinson make two errors., And that afternoon I saw him make three of those unbelievable Brooks Robinson, Fielding clays that one has to wonder how somebody could do that. The man was a true good human being, and a fabulous baseball player, and a true ambassador to the game of baseball.. R.IP

This is really a sad day, and not just for baseball.
I'm going to feel a loss I usually reserve for players on my two favorite teams - the Cardinals and Tigers.
Lots of good third basemen have played Major League baseball, but no one did it better. And he was well-rounded at bat, not a power hitter but he was tough to get out.
If the Orioles were going to be on TV in his day, you turned it on pointedly to see Brooks Robinson play.
The first celebrity I ever had a legit conversation with was Brooks Robinson. Brooks loved his fans as much as he loved the game itself. He was humble, charitable with his time, energy and money and extremely wise.
He.was a spectacle all on his own at third base. Fans would come to see what Brooks Robinson would do next on a baseball field, whether it be a line shot deep in the left-centee gap or. posted up at the hot corner, he dives into some kind of acrobatic ninjitsu sleight of hand trick, shot out of a cannon to Boog Powell, who uses every bit of unexpected flexibility to reach out and meet the ball just before dirt poofs up from the hitter's cleats running through the first place bag.
I never got to see it in real life. Only replays. The year that he was inducted to the Hall of Fane is the last year the Baltimore Orioles won a World Series, which I also don't remember. My oldest memory, however, was from the celebratory parade following the triumph over the Phillies in 5 games that October
Orioles baseball was my first love. I grew up on stories from my father about Hank Bauer and Earl Weaver's spectacular Orioles teams that were so successful, basically for Brooks' career and more. He was a respectable role model in an age where money didn't rule as much as tradition and hard work.
The Orioles and the fanbase lost a member of our family yesterday. Let's remember him every day for everything he was amd will forever be known as.

My son and I met him in 2016. He was a generous humble man with his time and treated my son, a young baseball player of third base, very tenderly. I will always appreciate the effort that he showed to my young boy. Brooks, you will be missed!

I have been a massive Orioles fan since 1982 when I was four years old. One Saturday morning in 1992, when I was 13 and going on 14 if my math is correct (look, I’m old and I suck at math, okay?) my parents woke me up early and told me to grab my baseball and Brooks Robinson cards because he was doing an autograph session at the White Marsh Mall in Baltimore County. It was a surprise and man, it wound up being a fun day. Because my dad has to be at least half an hour to an hour early for *everything* we were the first people there. Brooks and his assistant got there about five minutes or so after we did and got ready for the day. He said that he had overslept a little, and by the state of his hair he was telling the truth! He brushed his hair and buttoned his polo shirt while talking to his assistant and to my mom, dad, and myself. When my mom pulled out her camera from her purse Brooks’ assistant said (nicely, not at all mean) that “Mr. Robinson won’t be taking pictures today”. Brooks said “Nah, we can. Do you want to take a picture with me, kid? Come here!” and he put his arm around my shoulders for the photo and he beamed a kind smile that not even the greatest actor in the history of humankind could have faked. He signed my baseball, a couple of his baseball cards, and a couple of large photos from his playing days.
About nine years later I sadly had to sell all of my baseball cards and autographs in order to buy my infant daughter baby formula and diapers. Obviously she’s worth it, but I still miss having my cards and memorabilia. I do still have the picture that my mom took of Brooks and I; it’s somewhere in one of my old photo albums.
Though I am now 45 years old I still remember that Saturday morning at the White Marsh Mall as if it happened last week, and I never forgot how *genuinely kind and caring* Brooks was; he made a massive impression on a 13 year old boy that a 45 year old man has never forgotten. Not only was Brooks Robinson the greatest third baseman in baseball history, he was also a wonderful man.
Rest well, Mr. Robinson. May the Lord ease your loved ones’ sorrow and fill their minds with only the best of memories. I look forward to the day when I get to meet you again.
It may sound silly to some, but I am honestly sad that he has passed on. He really was a great, great guy.

Brooks will always be a legend in Baltimore. Everywhere for that matter. I’ve had the pleasure to meet him at signing around town when I was younger and he was the nicest man you could ever meet. You would never know you were talking to the best 3rd baseman of all times. So sad to see another Baltimore legend go but this city is so grateful to have gotten to watch him h him play all those years. Obviously he stopped playing before I was born but not knowing #5 in this town is like not ratting crabs it doesn’t happen 😂😂. RIP Brooks.

I'm a Reds fan, especially the Big Red Machine. Brooks Robinson always cared about his work and gave it everything he could. The Orioles clearly were a great team back then; Brooks and Frank Robinson both played a huge part in that. Rest in Peace Brooks and Frank.

As a kid growing up watching baseball in the 60’s and 70’s there were two things you could count on. At the beginning of each season you could pencil in Brooks as the AL all star 3b starter and Bill Freehan of the Tigers as the AL starting catcher. Brooks was a human vacuum cleaner. After the 70 series all Johnny Bench could do was shake his head in amazement. Brooks robbed him at least three times in that series. Great player and person.

The Orioles were the great nemesis of my childhood Yankees teams, but it was impossible not to admire the great Brooks Robinson. Don't know if he was the greatest fielding third baseman ever, but there was no one better.

I will hit 60 early next year and feel blessed and priviledged to have seen sports heroes like Brooks, Mays, Unitas, O.J., Havlicek, West, Chamberlain and a host of other great players. I was young and it gave me a great foundation of trying my best at whatever I did and appreciating teamwork and no racial barriers. I grew up and have lived my entire life in the Bay Area and have nothing but fond memories of my sports heroes. It makes me sad to lose them but the happy memories flood back along with the sadness. These guys all went about their business without showboating or mugging for the cameras after every routine play. Thank you Brooks, you were the best to play the hot corner.
