  • I woke up to my sister going viral all over social media, youtube, on television at multiple tv networks, and all over facebook with over 2 million views regarding her taxi scam incident at the Manila airport. This is a common problem that has been going on for so many years but now that it has been caught on camera, accountability is being held. Vlog 458

Will, you are 100% right. It is about principles. Most importantly, it hurts philippines tourism and even worse the reputation of Filipinos.
I am an American living in Philippines for 2 years now. I love Filipinos but the way they take advantage of people for money is like a diseasr in this country. Especially towards foreigners. Nothing would make me happier if the Philippines as a whole could learn to be more fair and honest because in the end i think it would be very postive for tourism and the perception of Filipinos as a whole.
    Thanks for sharing Will.

    Mga klase ng taxi driver:
    1. Deadma
    2. Out of Way
Out of way!”
    3. Speechless
ONLI IN DA PILIPINS.

    Kahit kmi filipino...tagapilipinas....
Ginaganyan din ng mga taxi driver...wala pang uber noon...kya no choice kundi magbus jeep tricycle or pedicab....o maglakad...
Issue na to since mga ninuno pa natin hahahaha! Thanks to your sister for being brave to voice it out for all of us commuters...
    1. Yung nangyari sa sis mo...
    2. Sirang metro...
    3. Kada humps 100 dagdag...

The government knows this has been happening. When I stayed at a Makati hotel back in 2005 the taxi driver wanted 500 pesos from the hotel to the airport (I was going to Cebu City). I told him take me back to my hotel and I will get another taxi. Only then he turned on the meter. Even so I still gave him a tip on top of what the meter fare stated which was about 145 pesos at the time. So this been going on but the government chose to do nothing and ruin the tourism image of the Philippines in the age of Tripadvisor.

I got fooled once not by a driver trying to extort a little extra from me by asking, but he said "this is a shortcut." clearly passing where my destination was going. I even told him to just pull over, but he wouldn't. It was getting frustrating.
I told him I wasn't going to pay the extra when he clearly went further than when I said stop. It was an easy shoulder to pull-over in, and he decided not to.
As much as I feel bad for that taxi driver, I just hope it serves as an example to people just trying to squeeze some extra greed money out of "good customers." If you want that extra cash, just be a good driver with solid customer service.

Siguro dapat talagang ma i expose yung mga ganitong kabalastugan. This is an eye opener. Victims should speak up and stand for themselves like Haley did. 👍🏻👊🏻

    FIRST TIME TO COMMENT here!
I feel sorry for Haley experiencing this taxi scam here in the Philippines. I was infuriated at the same time feel sorry too for the driver losing his livelihood. I would never say 'buti nga sa kanya' but that's how life is... cause and effect is a law set in motion. We can never stop the consequence just by dealing with the effect. The cause has to be rooted out if we really want change. Corruption is a cancer.
I totally agree it's all about principles.
I really hope the driver got the point na and have a new start.
Kudos to Haley and Wil! More power!

She did the right thing! It happened 4 years a go they charged us 1500pesos, when we say we won’t pay the taxi he stop and let us out to his taxi and charged us for 500 even we’re not that far from the airport. I’m a Filipino.

Last time I went to the Philippines was a few years ago. Uber was not yet popular, and taxi drivers did try to scam us. My mom is fluent in Tagalog, but I think because of our appearance, they could tell we were foreigners/American. The driver pretended to be “lost” so that he could charge us more.

Also, this just reminded me that we should teach our parents how to use uber if they don’t already know how to! It could be very useful in situations like these

Haley did the right thing and she acted calmer than I think I would have. She asserted herself with epic grace, something most Filipinos would not have done in the same situation. Another thing that made me so proud of her is that she SAID something and didn't blindly accept what the bully driver asked for. We Filipinos have been nonconfrontational and passive aggressive for FAR too long. We gotta know how to be proactive and how to react at the right time. If this was any normal Pinoy they would have just paid and that REINFORCES this sick scam. Filipinos should learn to push back at bullies and stand our ground. I'm so proud of Haley and her decision to show this in her vlog. It's so important, not only because she exposed this scam, but because she set the example of how to act on this situation.

I've been personally been scammed twice here in US twice by taxi driver. 1) I was told by taxi that he have to take the detour because they are working on the road, he lied! Paid $10. more! 2) Taxi driver didn't realize I was local and tried to go a long way. He said that this is the fastest way until I told him that I live here!

This driver always starts off with a smile, then he slides a lie under it to test if the other person will let him get away with it. If he realizes it isn’t working, he backs off, adds a fake apology, looks for sympathy then starts another scam. Even in his interview he is scamming. He just repeats this over and over all day, what a miserable way to go thru life.

I'm glad this went public and viral because you know there has been some politics going on before not to grant Uber and Grab for public transportion here in the Philippines. Now those who contradict on Grab and Uber will burn with this evidence and it's pretty obvious most Filipinos know the situation regarding customer service with taxi drivers nowadays. Filipinos as you know it is somehow very smart in making new things... bypass things. Even if that taxi driver turn on that meter, in someways they still have control on how to manipulate and turn that meter up so they can price the customer high. Some would keep blinking their lights on, some would horn now and then, and there are many other ways they are able to manipulate that meter. This should also be kept watched. This is reality and this is their scandal. That video is what we really need so those who control over politics with this kind of public transportation service has no excuse and no escape. Now because of that video it might lead to a better customer service on transportations here in the Philippines and not just on taxi's but on Jeepney's as well. 👍

I commend Haley for posting this. This has been going on for years. While everyone is hating on the taxi driver I would also like to remind everyone to think of what these drivers have gone thru. I am not siding with the corrupt drivers, if anything I’m actually upset about them too..but I’m sure these drivers have experienced injustice towards them as well. In some way or another they started with good intentions and just to work hard as a driver and earn a living but then poverty and seeing a lot of their co-drivers doing this must’ve pushed them to do this too. “Mas madali nlang kasi to earn extra kahit bawal”
To those passengers with the “Bahala na” mentality just to get to their destination and absentmindedly and unknowingly convince the drivers “na okay lang pala I-off ang metro, marami namang papayag” start fighting for what is right and stand for it. Don’t be easily swayed.
To the government, please make regulations that would be in advantage for both the passengers and the drivers. I’m sure impounding taxis will be an issue soon enough kasi makukulangan na Ng lot. Please be sure to rectify the actions of the drivers
After writing this loooong comment I just realized. It’s all gonna go back to corruption that led to poverty andof course pushed a lot of people to be corrupt as well. Earning a living isn’t easy.
To foreigners, tourists, balikbayans, lahat Ng bumabyahe - do not condone this kind of system with the taxi drivers. I’m sure there are still good ones left. For this bad practice to end, it takes a HUGE COMMUNITY EFFORT but always remember it starts with one. WITH YOU. Be an influencer.

    • @gooddeeds5811
      @gooddeeds5811 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I’m sure this isn’t just the issue with drivers. Meron din yung naka on ang metro pero Kung saan saan ka dumadaan or yung nangdaya lang talaga sa metro. Bottom line is, Hindi lang gobyerno ang corrupt. I hope everyone will be open minded about change and broad minded to take actions. Kahit walang nakakapansin sayo live righteously. No matter how small your action is, someone is bound to notice it -either you influence them or you wake them up to their own practices

  • @CindyPOfficial
    @CindyPOfficial 6 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree with everything you’re saying, Wil. Exactly, hold people accountable. We shouldn’t condone things like this. First thing to always do is report them and hold them accountable. The reason why this country is still corrupt because we would just shrug off things like this and let it go. You’re saying the right things.
