What amazes me is how quickly they can segue from a warning, protective huddle to an eerie dead silence (to human ears). Their “intraherd” communication is fascinating.
It reminded me of when the many rescuers working on the debris of 9/11 would stop when someone thought they heard a noise. Of course, the humans had to warn each other. But that intense silence felt the same.
A reminder of how intuitive and perceptive these beautiful, majestic gentle giants are in their habitat. Their keen senses of hearing and smelling, and ability to provide protection to one another is always impressive...
These Elephants are so in tuned to a trumpeting distress call & reading each other’s body language, I find it absolutely phenomenal how they know exactly what’s up. They move right in to make sure Lundi is protected & have her back. In their own language, it’s like they’re saying to her, “ You alright there Miss Lundi? We’re right here for you.” Couple minutes later. . . “Now that everything seems a little bit calmer, you ok with us continuing our swim time? You know those Carers are gonna be kicking us out soon enough.” Excellent camera work Mr. Owen. ❤
I love watching the elephants swim, and especially Khanyisa and Bubi who seem to enjoy it more than anyone else. Love how even when they're checking on Lundi, Khanyisa is still dunking herself, "we're good, right? I can keep swimming?"
Such sensitive, intelligent creatures. Always on alert, always ready to protect. Hoping they were able to enjoy their swim at the end of all that activity!
I especially love how the HERD team identifies individual elephants and describes the herd's behavior. It's fun just to watch the video content, but the education makes the videos even more valuable and meaningful. Thank you!
Joyous footage of the herd enjoying the water. I love the way they react to protect and reassure each other - exactly the way our human families do when there is alarm or concerns. Beautiful, beautiful ellies, how I look forward to watching them every day. Thank you!
When Lundi trumpeted they all suddenly went from playing and being spread out, to clustering around the babies and standing very still. They are so beautiful and protective. ❤ Nothing makes me happier than seeing Bubi's playful side coming out and watching her enjoy herself 💕
The whole HERD 🐘 is enjoying the water today. Bubi 🐘 I was having so much fun watching playing with that branch. I hope that the Herd 🐘 was able to give Lundi 🐘 some comfort that they were all there for her. Thank you Owen for capturing all of this for us to see.❤️🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘❤️
I love how they all show their protectiveness here, especially Pisa. She seems to keep pushing Timi back when she tried to join the adults at the bank as if telling her to stay within the huddle. Pisa seems to only show her affectionate side to either Timi or Zindoga, other than her mother and sister. They seem to really be in distress when Lundi trumpeted. Even Jabulani was streaming from his temples and Zindoga was urinating. And Lady Bubi is being energetic in the water today. Thank you, Owen, for bringing us along. To all carers, please keep hydrated and cool as well. God Bless You All At HERD.🙏🐘❤
These darlings astound me every day. Their need to protect and love one another. Mankind should sit and watch how it's done...so many lessons could be learned...I am deeply in love with every single one of them. Thank you Owen ❤
40°? Definitely not that temperature here in UK!! 🇬🇧 What a stunning video - thanks Owen. Why would they all stop and be silent like that? Sorry if it's a silly question (typical of me!🙄) but it was incredible- almost as if time stood still. They are SO protective of each other. With our world in such turmoil, I am especially grateful to HERD for allowing us the opportinity to witness something so very different and positive. 🙏🧡🐘🧡
I noticed it too. I wonder if they were all listening out for whatever spooked Lundi? Maybe a lion roaring in the distance? Or the trumpeting of the wild elephants?
This underscores for me how we're picking up only a fraction of all the communication that's going on between them through infrasound, gestures, pheromones etc.
They’re so caring for one another. It’s very impressive. Quiet and listening. Feeling the vibes then back to play. It’s all good in the hood. Let’s play now.
I'm watching in the quiet & it reminded me of being out in the Alaskan bush, & the song, The sound of silence. If elephants were in charge, even the little ones are listened to. The elders are lestened to. Thanks to all who listen & protect.
That moment of silence and stillness was impressive. Without exception they listened for and tried to sense what was disturbing Lundi. At the same moment, 'all is well' was established by the herd and play time resumed. Very impressive. Remarkably human. A privilege to witness. Thank you!🙏🐘❤️❤️❤️
I really ❤love the way they take care of each other n gather to comfort the one in need..we humans must learn this and the world would be a wonderful happy place..
There was some serious communications happening there and it looked like there was a head count as well. Everyone was involved in that one. Once that was sorted it was back to playing 'find the stick' 😁 They are so precious! Thanks for the video Owen 🙏
They must have picked up a scent or a visual of a possible threat, or they would not have reacted the way they did. Their natural instincts are incredible.
Well, Owen, there’s always something going on when you’re around 😅 Way to go Bubi, bless her; just as impressive as Sebakwe in the water 😅 And, dear little Khanyisa; already back in the water and splashing before you can swish an elephant’s tail 😅 The ‘minute’s silence’ was touching and I held my breath, waiting! Thank you for your protection, Owen, and all of the carers; when it comes to the wild, all the ellies are still babies at heart 🥰❤️🐘❤️
My morning fix! Coffee and elephants! Wow! When they all go on alert is awesome! Such amazing sights you share with us all. They are so in tune with each other to go when there is a need or a threat! To see them splash about as individuals, then all huddle in when they think there is danger, stop and stand silently to listen for threats then tentatively go back to bathing. I know I just repeated what I saw here but the unity with which they responded says a lot for elephant family bonds. 😍🌹❤️🏴
