  • We two foreigners travel to India and try street food for the first time in Madurai, Tamil Nadu
    After Liam's delhi belly disappearing, we celebrate by travelling to Madurai from Trichy, to try some South Indian street food in one of the best places in the world to try it.
    If you are enjoying the videos, please subscribe here to be notified when we upload our next one / thosehappydays
    Our overall plan in India is to travel via rickshaw/tuk tuk from the South to North (if it's possible?) The next leg of our journey is to travel from Madurai to India's most southerly point Kanyakumari, and then (if our rickshaw makes it). Once we make it that far south, we will start heading north through Kerala.
    WE POST VIDEOS EVERY WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY 8PM AND SUNDAY 9AM (British Time
    We have only just arrived in India, after a crazy time back home doing van life and living full time in our camper van conversion for two years in the UK. But after some serious engine problems that cost us a fortune, we came to India on a mission to honour Liam's Grandad's legacy who sadly died earlier this year. With the inheritance money Liam got from that, we bought the tuk tuk and named it after Liam's Grandad.
    OUR JACKERY POWERBANK
    We are in fact travelling with a Jackery Explorer 1000 and we LOVE IT! Does what we need. But Jackery have just brought out the NEW Jackery Solar Generator 1500 Pro - which is more powerful and it's quicker charging too. Here are the links to check it out:

    Tamil Nadu got one of the oldest structures and temples in the world, such a wonderful state and feel proud of Tamil culture and traditions and obviously Tamil language is oldest too, its from Tamil even my mother tongue Malayalam originated. Tamil language dates back 5000 years ago.

      When you go to Kerala if you can , the 800 year old famous Synagogue is worth a visit . The Maharaja protected the Cochin Jews. So the Ashkenazi white Jews and Sephardic black Jews integrated together. Due to the Spanish/Portugese Cleansing of the Jews. The antisemitism was part of the Goan Diaspora. There is a Jew Street in Goa , but Jews were driven out , whilst the Maharaja protected the Cochin Jews. India and Israel have good relations.

    Just been looking at distances and travel times from the North of India to the South. From New Delhi to Puducherry it's 2345km by road and takes 40hrs of travelling time. The travelling time is approximately the same by train.

    • @peterharridge8565
      @peterharridge8565 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clowndodger6322 That's true. I was on a train from Delhi to Puri and took many hours more. Leading me to get there at 11 PM at night. I think ended up 38 hour trian trip. It was better on way back.
      This time I go Chennai by plane, and then train to Rameswaram on the Rameswaram express. Its a sleeper so I hope its late (a bit) as it gets there 4.10 AM. And I can't check in till 3 PM or so at Hotel. Rmaeswaram I got wrong, thought it was nearer Madurai as a Madurai address. The state of Madurai as opposed to the town.

    • @peterharridge8565
      @peterharridge8565 ปีที่แล้ว

      40 hours from Chennai, was it changing somewhere. From Delhi direct train to Puri and end of line. No 1st class on train, only 2nd but crucial difference is 4 bunks in 2 but in 1A I think two and you may get lucky. And be just you.
      In 1A once I had cash taken out of my wallet and just one person it could have been, tte other passenger. So they came for the cash for meal , no cash so couldn't pay. The guy I assume took my cash paid for my meal. He of course denied it, didn't care really but caused an issue. I borrowed his WiFi on phone and transferred to Caxton card from bank account, but didn't come quickly enough. So used Barclaycard at ATM and oddly didn't pay for a cash transaction. I think because ATM on station. As came on statement as Indian rail. I wouldn't use bank account as min charge, 2.75% or £5 from memory. So it means say £30 pay £5. Barclaycard 2.99% no min.
      How did you get new passport in Puri?

    Hi, my home town is Madurai.
    My favourite breakfast food is Idli and sambar. When you eat the idli, chutney and sambar, you have to keep all side dishes on the side of idli and va dai. Take little piece of idli/Vadai and dip in sambar and chutney. If you eat all together, We can tolerate , but foreigners can’t tolerate the spicy . I hope you enjoyed the South Indian food and explored our Tamil Nadu.

    I am from south India, south Indian speciality Tamils are totally different people compared to others people of world. They are more intelligent, talented, understanding, industrious ,cooperating and scientific approach towards life and work.

    Winston Churchill’s cigar was apparently personally sourced from Trichy. Trichy has an airport which has more international connections than domestic. It’s a regional city - probably 3rd or 4th largest in Tamilnadu.
    My family historically hails from Trichy, so a visit to this city is close to my heart.

    These temples are lovely and the carvings on front unique. At the very end of video as the song plays I thought there was a dog in the Tuk Tuk beside Janice's legs, but closer I looked it was a rucksack (I think) 😆.

      Hi , Actually coming to India soon. I think 3 Feb in Madurai area. So maybe you will have left by then which is a shame. Been to Pondi 2018 so was surprised you paid £35 for a night. I paid £10 then so now a bit of a worry that maybe prices are up but I am a cheapskate. For middle of Pondi but walking distance for me from a French cafe and the beach area. I booked I think on gobibo site. But then have a night in Chennai at not much more.
      I was surprised you are able to drive in India, I understood not possible. Is that on an international licence or just a UK one? Not that I drive, I take the bike. I was cycling in Pondi so surprised you were told driving was mad. Watch the police road blocks though, nearly cycled into one. At speed, doing interval training so 25 MPH. But on dehydration, well never an issue for me. But I like the heat.
      But I stay in India 7 weeks, I stay in Rameswaram 3 weeks and then will decide where the train takes me. Madurai or Pondi are not too far away so those are options. But I favour rural areas to be fair, I was in Koraput for some time but then Pondi is favourite for me. Haven't booked on from Rameswaram yet on the train basically because I need to get a Hotel first and can't get one unless I am in India on the Gobibo site as doesn't work in UK.

    It is interesting to see my city through your eyes :) You guys missed tasting Jigardanda which is a cold drink that you would not find it in other cities that easily. I know some Madurai restaurants in cities like Chennai and Bangalore do sell them..but its not the same :) Choosing an Auto rather than a car for you travel is a surprising decision..but I can see several advantages of it. Enjoy the trip of rest of India!
