    The new pickups sound clearer, with more definition. Definitely worth the upgrade! If you don't use the middle pickup, you could just put in an empty solid cover and wire the switch for other options, like phase or coil split (with a 5-way super switch).

    • @ryant3600
      @ryant3600 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's generally what I do ot I just Deaden the mid and put in a 3 way switch.

    The "after" guitar is ever so slightly brighter sounding, but IDK if I would go through all those mods just for that slight tonal change.

      It is way more clear on the dimarzio. Which helps a lot in distortion modes playing open chords.

    I don't know what kind of pickups were on the guitar before you replaced them, but they definitely weren't the stock ones. On an RG550 the stock pickups have pretty much always been all-black generic Ibanez ones.
    That's probably why there's not that much difference in sound - your original pickups were already decent and probably similar-output judging purely by the looks.

    • @sharkhaywood
      @sharkhaywood 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My RG550 has the all black stock ones for sure.

  • @ryant3600
    @ryant3600 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see people not liking the Pafs.. I've been a Dimarzio user for 20 years, recently started dabbing into Seymours.. But Pafs are incredible pups with a huge legacy with lots of influential guitarists that used them especially back in the late 80's early 90's shred stuff..

  • @helixworld
    @helixworld 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks for the demo. I like the 36th Anniversary set better because they are smoother, especially the neck one.

    • @guitarist6494
      @guitarist6494  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was considering those at one point. I chose the PAF Masters as they are supposed to sound hotter, but are not actually, due to their high attack sound and lots of bite, which I do notice.

    • @helixworld
      @helixworld 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You play it well, so the brightness isn't too much. Interestingly Paul Gilbert endorses these in an Ibanez guitar. Anyway, I look forward to hearing more vids.

    Love the gold hardware!! Love it. I have a gold hardware Gibson 2016T studio and it's sweet looking and sounding. I am getting a JEM77WDP, and I thought very seriously of getting gold hardware for it as well, encouraging to see it can be done effectively! Thanks for sharing! I agree with the posts here, a slight volume increase, but I know that in your room it is probably WAY more obvious than what the compressed YT vid reflects. Good job!!

    • @guitarist6494
      @guitarist6494  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Roland, that JEM looks awesome, and from what I've heard of it, sounds even better. Really warm and nice tones.
      Yes true, although some difference do show even on youtube to which I am surprised.

    • @rolandlemus203
      @rolandlemus203 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I ordered and received a JEM77WDP and it had a bridge post issue on the lower end, it would not lock back after I unlocked it, very bummed about that, but I had to send it back, being it was brand new, now I have to wait for March! for new stock, so it goes, but GOLD hardware is NICE:) I agree, for the 5 days I had my guitar, it was awesome, I loved the tones I was getting with the DarK Matter pups, it is worth the hassle for me to wait, I loved it that much. I am somewhat newbie to the trem scene, but been playing for many years. Learning from others and sharing is a very cool thing with guitarists:) On YT sounds, oh yeah I have recorded things thinking it is all level backing track and my sound, but nope, one is higher than the other! It is a pain to level out, I need to just buy the upgrade and play direct from my DAW I think that is the way to go:)

  • @andreil1234
    @andreil1234 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dunno man, you cannot really improve much on the black/maple fretboard/black inlays aesthetic.
    I too have a black/maple RG450 and I really like it fine just the way it is. Feels awesome, plays awesome, love it more and more every time I pick it up and I dig the standard look quite a lot. Wanted to change to zebras or different knob colors but I found it's much better all black.
    Also not to say there's anything wrong with the new pickups, but the do come across as kind of sterile, at least in this particular recording (maybe hearing them in person on your rig makes a big difference though). Like they really need more power to get that tone out. I'd have went for something slightly hotter.
    Aaanyway, it's pretty darn hard to have something better sounding and more assertive than Dimarzio/IBZ or the more widespread DiMarzios like PAF36th/AN/PafPro/TZ/SD/N. They're widespread among Ibanez owners for a good reason.
    That said, I actually like the gold aesthetic but wouldn't have gone as far as replacing the covers, it's a bit too much at least for my eyes.
