      I have 3 1966 Fairlanes. Needless to say I agree that it’s the best looking Ford ever made.

      I actually built this car in 2007, it was totally gutted to a shell and painted. It was actually a GTA but I put a 427 with a 3 duce in it first @ 12 to one compression with a 4 speed. Then a a 4v on that motor for a little while, had to run race fuel 110 octane at that time. So I then put a 428 in it all hopped up as well but at 10 to 1 compression with the aluminum heads. Still was tuned for high octane but I could run pump gas as well. I'm very surprised he didn't show the motor in this vid. And unlike he said in the vid, the car never hesitated in first gear, in fact you could launch the front tires off the ground if you knew the car. He probably also had pump gas in it. I sold it to a friend for cheaper than it was worth, knowing he was going to sell it, this guy must have got it from him to really mark it up. When I first got it done It won many shows as it was supper clean no matter where you looked. It had 69 High back bucket seats in it when sold with the red trim line on black vinyl like the 69 mustang even though I had the original seats, but they didn't have a seal lock and a little less safe. I also built this car to look like a ten year old car like a used car a kid like myself had in the 70s. I did drive that car and ran it hard because thats what it was built for, not a trailer queen for me.

      @Littleblockfox 90 I used the 1966 factory red that was what the car originally was. When I got it they started to paint it Highland Green, but when I decoded what the car was I think it was called Candy Appel Red in 66. Look at the Ford Fairlane color options for 66 to make sure thats right. It's not Rangoon Red on earlier cars, it's brighter than that. Interesting though when I ordered the paint, it had a Chevy color code as well.
      Looks like I'm right

      @Littleblockfox 90 BTW, I still have nice Grills, Grill bars one pair NOS, headlight frames and buckets, Tail light lenses and frames, 66 side view mirrors. Lots of trim stuff and ford parts, and performance engine parts. Send me a privet message if you need that stuff, gut the car paint it and put clean trim on it.

      It came with a 4 on the floor and that's the way that car needs to be setup. It needs the long, hearty gears capable of handling the torque without grenading.

    • @asmongoldsmouth9839
      @asmongoldsmouth9839 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PS- a 5-spd or higher is for hwy cruising. This isn't a road trip car.

      Well I guess you like going down the highway at 3500 RPM doing 60.
      I've been there in a vintage muscle car. After the 5-Speed I'm doing 2500 RPM at 75 MPH. And I can drive it anywhere.

    • @331Grabber

      @@asmongoldsmouth9839
      There's no advantage to keeping the 4-Speed in a driver. There are plenty of 5-speeds and 6 speeds that can take more power bolt right up and make that car capable of driving anywhere.
      There are fuel injection systems that go in place of the carburetor and mix the air/fuel better and literally extend the life of the engine tens of thousands of miles. Those FI systems are virtually invisible in an old car under the air cleaner.
      I get if you want a pure vintage garage queen/show car. But if you drive it seriously go overdrive and fuel injection.

    ford only used this style for 2 years 66 and 67 then they changed it again stupid move they coulda kept this body style for 4 vor 5 years stuffed it full of high performance parts and sold 20 million more the 68 and on fairlanes and torinos sucked horribly but then so did mary beth

    xpipe and 428 so somebody likes chevy but built a ford. H-pipes on fords and too much RPM in the cam setup. Pretty but poorly designed. The 390 was 500HP with a header change on the 66 Yawn to a 12 sec stock car?
