I'm confused, why you, and everybody comparing the (6k Cinema FF) to the (6k PRO), this is NOT a upgrade or replacement for the 6k Pro - This is a new tool, a full frame camera meant for the reason that people want a full frame sensor, open gate, field of view etc. If everyone would just be patient, the new 6K Pockets (or maybe 8k) will be announced soon - it is an entirely new camera body design, they said this months ago. They are making the Pocket line more in the form factor of the FX30. So - this camera should only be looked at as a new tool, for a new budget line of cinema camera options from Blackmagic.
If this camera has a usable 13 stops of dynamic range in comparison to the many exaggerated DR claims by other manufacturers it would a very good specification. After grading the test clips available on the BM website and from what I've seen posted on TH-cam this camera may have equal or better DR than any mirrorless under 5K. The highlight rolloff, low noise and excellent colour science represents amazing value for 2.6K. So many people being negative about this camera without having used it.
@CSound: A very good point. It would have been simple for BM to include a whole range of new features and done so at a much higher cost for the consumers. Besides, all the technical discussions in the wake of this launch is irrelevant if you as a storyteller have a good story and a great cinematographer. And a great lens! Hi there! There’s a guy here in the comments who said that Blackmagic Design talked about releasing a new camera that will upgrade the 6K Pro, but I can’t confirm that. I have no idea, as I have never been chosen by BMD to test any camera
And you can take your camera with an extra battery 🔋 and film for good time without having to rig it massively. The important thing is that serves your needs. Thanks for watching 🙏

Some people are high-affiliators and take any perceived disapproval of their affiliation choices personally. Just keeping doing what you’re doing. You are a singular voice in a TH-cam space filled with “me-toos.”

@@whengrapespop5728 Rigging alleviates the camera's inherent shortcomings, not eliminate them. The critiques feel a little "man in the arena" to me: th-cam.com/video/A311CnTjfos/w-d-xo.html
Consumerism is the fuel that camera (and any other type of) companies need to keep the pedal at full throttle, in order to give you more GAS. So, of course the 'Pro' version will come, and then the 'Ultimate' version will follow....and so on, and on, and on. When we stop giving fuel, we might just get what we really want, and how we want it.
Do you use blackmagic branded bats? I get about an hour on my 6k pro if im not using 12 volt and 2 hours 50 mins witht the grip. 15 mins sounds like a dead battery or bad third party one.
@@topicruben that's crazy, I only have the blackmagic official ones with the grip I find it OK, the only issue with rigging is how tall the body Is. For handheld it's not too bad.
@@bedenegative I know. I did a video about that as well, that’s why I got used to the Anton Bauer Tirón base under which gives me like 3h. Great choice. I had never tried the grip
@@topicruben it's not as bad as some people make out... honestly the hot swapping is pretty nice, with 5 bats you can shoot all day 10 hours if you swap them onto charge. But you need a really big tripod so the camera is secure.
Happy upcoming weekend Ruben 😃 Cool video as always 😎 I'm don't know anything about cameras but I always learn something new from your awesome channel. 225th liked 👍 Have a wonderful safe weekend my friend 😎👍
We have to wait for a new camera. This is a sample sensor. Then there will be more complete cameras. Such a sensor cannot have 13 stops. This means they will soon show a camera with this sensor and more advanced recording modes including a dynamic range of 15 stops.
I hope so. I think about a new version of the 6k Pro, but we’ve been waiting for a new camera for long time…, anyway, let’s see what the future brings. Thanks for whatever and for leaving a great comment 🙏
I am not a fan of Blackmagic but Sony claims 15stops of dynamic range on A7S3 with internal recording, that means.. with all the internal noise compression you get 14.7 stops(CINE D testing) at SNR=0 but BMPCC 6k gets15.7 stops dynamic range at SNR 0(Check CineD) . BMPCC gets claims 11.8 points at SNR =2 & A7SIII gets 12.4(consider the internal noise compression) dynamic range and internal raw is what makes this a unique camera. Considering fullframe & revamped sensor, this sensor might have better dynamic range than BMPCC6k pro, waiting for CINED to test the dynamic range!! Note: Internal noise compression removes the noise and this yields to better dynamic range, if we process Braw with noise reduction in Davinci, Braw might get the same dynamic range as A7SIII
You're right, with a larger sensor there is more light coming in and thus less noise and theoretically an increase in dynamic range?! In fact one of the issues, people who already have tried the camera, have is the amount of light and so it's been hard cause ir doesn't have internal NDs. Anyways, Thanks for watching and leaving a comment 🙏
This sensor is likely the same 24mp sensor that is in the Lumix S5-II, S5-IIX and possibly the next S1H-II. (Sony IMX-410-style family of sensors) I'm guessing that L-Mount Alliance has as a group has purchased a high number of them from Sony in order to drop the unit cost. This could also apply to the new Alliance L2 image processor chip. (cost is split with every company in the alliance) Now that BlackMagic is part of the Alliance, I would not be surprised if the frame rate limitations were NEGOTIATED with Leica, Panasonic and Sigma. Remember,...they work TOGETHER to make products that share technology and avoid stepping on each other's toes. Blackmagic was given the L Mount and BlackMagic prolly will donate BRAW to the Alliance in return. Eveybody "gives" and everybody "gets". By the way,..this same (likely) sensor in the S5-IIX has SUPERB "lab-tested" dynamic range...do NOT worry about that one bit.
@@Meatyowlleg - I dont see Sony or Canon giving their mounts to BM. EF is dead and has no future so along comes L-mount and they say "OK,..you can have our modern mount but you have offer something of yours in return." What is the ONLY technology that BM has to offer that would attract the L-Mount Alliance? BRAW. What else is there from BM?
It is not a hybrid camera. It is a cinema camera. Power, matte box, filters, storage, audio, are always add-ons with cinema cameras. If you want some other features try the Pocket cameras, or another brand.
I respectfully disagree. The RED Komodo X is also a cinema camera and you can use it with the battery that comes with and it will last a good amount of time. Also, you can use it without monitor etc
@@topicruben Awesome, I love your videos but I noticed you weren’t uploading many TH-cam Shorts and I was just wondering if I could make some for your for completely free. I just want to build my experience and get some testimonials.
Not happy at all with this release. I was hoping they would relegate the Ursa line to the broadcast side and build a new camera that bridged the gap between the Pocket Cinema Camera and Ursa, not repackage the PCC yet again.
If a beginning filmmaker asked me whether they should buy the CC 6k as their first camera, I would say, “no.” But as a compliment to my existing Blackmagic system, I’m very positive about the sensor and capabilities. I have also accumulated the add ons you describe for use with other equipment, so none of that’s an issue. The body style? Not my favorite except for the 5” screen. Battery? Well that’s nothing new. You have enough internal power to finish a take if the primary battery craps out. But any other system I would rig these days will have some kind of v-mount attached to power follow focus and the like, so it’s not great, but then again it’s fine. And I love the idea I can stop spooling footage to an SSD. I also love the idea that I can hook up my cellphone and have all the proxies transferred to a cloud project without having to buy an external transfer system. That I am sure will come in handy.
@@luxurybuzz3681 What would I recommend to someone starting out? Depends on their age, level of seriousness, budget, and their personal goals. If it were someone determined to become a first AC for major productions, then I might get them started in the Sony ecosystem. If someone wanting to do independent narrative work, then maybe a BMPCC 6K (G2 or maybe Pro depending on used prices). General purpose events, maybe a Lumix S5II. But there’s loads of ways to debate the subject. Fundamentally there’s a lot of good choices these days.
Always a pleasure watching yoir videos and about to buy the battery you recommend for my 6k pro. I will wait until BM addresses form factor, AF and battery life.before I ever buy another BM camera. Designwise, just copy the Canon C70 and put a 4 inch flip out screen on thre back.
Excellent and on point (as allways). As a 6k pro user i nearly hitted the order button but then, after the announcement my brain starts thinking about battery life, form factor, no nd filter, larger data, L-Mount (i have no L-mount lenses) and this and that. So is my decision: i still going on with my 6k pro, who’s still a fantastic camera, and i have ordered the new Nikon ZF for my private pleasure.
Same here, I'd keep my pro until they upgrade it with either larger internal npf battery or change the form factor. A upgrade makes only sense if you use it for low light anamorphic shooting.
This camera is not a replacement for the 6K Pro, as I mentioned above it's a new tool in the Blackmagic line ( Full Frame cameras) for users that need FF (open gate for anamorphic, or shallower depth of field, full field of view from our lenses etc. The 6K Pro is part of the POCKET series, the new Pocket replacement has not been announced yet - but is coming soon with a new form factor, and it will most likely be L mount as well, and it's not because they think people own tons of L mount lenses, it's because the L mount can be converted to literally any mount on the planet, so you can use almost any lens you want - it was a choice made for everyone's sake in mind.@@Meatyowlleg
Hmm... I feel there's a great deal of assumption there. You're taking the possible needs of a group of users (probably based on your use of the camera) and making them a general rule. Do you need CF Express cards? Do you have any idea how much people use external SSDs with the BMPCCs? Not only it's more affordable even compared both to CF express and the previous CF cards, but then you don't have to spend a dime. Do you need a pro mist? Why exactly? Basically, if a person already uses a screw-on pro mist, they will continue to be able to so, but, ok, without the internal NDs.. But what if the person already has a screw-on ND?. Or what if the person uses a matte box? Then they probably have a square pro mist and maybe even NDs. You're also taking as a premise that a person who's upgrading from the BMPCC 6K has started from scratch with that camera and on has the strict necessary gear to make it work. Although this can be the case for many, it's a far fetched assumption that it's the case for EVERY user. It's not. Especially for those who had other BM cameras before upgrading to the PRO, or those upgrading from the original 6K or the 4k. Basically, every user will be well aware or their own needs and can prioritise this or that if they decide to upgrade. I\m not even going to comment on lenses, because if someone is buying a FF camera, either they use FF lenses or they are choosing to upgrade, otherwise they won't even consider a FF camera. I think that BM is being transparent there.
My only complaint would be the available frame rates. But even so, I'll talking about the market in general, not about upgrading from the BMPCC Pro, as the frame rate is similar, comparing 6K DCI and the Pro's 6K.
As a low budget filmmaker, who once owned the BMPCC4K, I appreciate that BM has produced quality cameras at competitive prices. But, I think there should come a time when BM offers a cube shaped camera - hopefully with a v-mount on the back - as one of their designs. I'm filming with the Sony FX30 at the moment, and I am very impressed with it. But, I do miss working with BRAW. If Blackmagic can come up with a camera that is more cinema based, then I would be willing to spend more if that's what it takes. Thanks for your well rounded review of the BMCC6K.
You people complain too damn much. 🙄🤦🏾♂️ if you are truly an indie filmmaker, your only concern should be image quality. Not all that other crap, youtubers complain about. Serious filmmakers use accessories on their camera...no matter what camera they use. Is either you want the camera or NOT. The constant sobbing and whining is annoying. No camera out there is perfect. NOT even Arri line of cameras. Gheeez
This is a phenomianl camera but the fact is... I just dont need one as I own the 6K Pro and love it. As the prices for used 6K Pro's start to come down some, I'm going to grab another one to put on my gimbal. Great video as always brother!!
I'd like believe a new pocket sized, sony fx 3 like camera is in the pipeline from BMD. I hope it comes with all the specs which didn't make it to the new BlackmMagic 6K FF sooner than later🤞
Great video.... #Cooking I'm pretty sure they will release another camera within 5 months & most people will dislike it too. BMD does not care about what anyone thinks. SMH
I don't shoot for netflix every day but i do a substantial amount of video work in a given year and I had to google L-mount. Saw the promo stuff and heard their reasoning but I don't get it. What gives with the L-mount? And we lose the ND for it. So, its a one-man-band style body with no internal nd, one card slot (proxy), so-so battery life and a full-frame sensor. There goals seem so diffuse. So many cameras that are basically the same, pity they can't take a leaf from sony and have a clear cut line of cameras with trade-offs based on needs. the trade offs in bms seem to be based on design limitations and shoulder shrugging and then the price is just arbitrary. low but arbitrary. just stick with the 4k pocket and get the battery grip and the focal reducer, save yourself a lot of money and it'll do the same job
$2,600 USD. What that camera offer for the price is just mind-blowing, want more fps for that quality of image? Get a RED or ARRI. Find us another camera that offer that kind of image quality for that price range. You "cons" are invalid and shows your lack of understanding in the area.
100% agree with you! I've been with BMDsince the pocket OG. Had the 4k and now 6k Pro and the new 6k Full frame is a big disappointment for me. I was waiting for a new box style or at least a re-designed body with a better battery performance, but nothing like we've expected. I don't know what BMD plan for the future, but it's been nearly 6 years since the same body design and no upgrades and for my need I am close to leave Blackmagic for either Z-Cam or Sony.I wish they would release a new box-style/redesign pocket with a better battery performance since I really like the UI and their color science. I don't mind the 8-12k resolutions, for me what's important is the ergonomics of the camera.
I’m glad to see that we resonate, brother. Ergonomics, modularity, and battery life are the foundation, accompanied by image quality, dynamic range, etc. That’s the way I think. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts 🙏
The 6K full frame is not the pocket replacement my guy - it’s a new tool in their line up, utilizing cages and gear people already own so they don’t have to reinvest. The new body style for the pocket cameras are coming next. They already said it’s based on the design of the fx30 but slightly larger. If you keep up with their news posts you could knew about this over 6-8 weeks ago.
Can't wait for Black Magic to release a full frame sensor in a cube in 2024 or 2025, and watch everyone slag it off and nitpick it to death for not having whatever is being hyped in 2024 or 2025 by youtubers
Criticizing is a human thing. We’re never happy for what we have, and that’s why we’re never happy. If BMD releases a CUBE many people will be unhappy cause they ditched the beautiful screen and so on. You have your points of view and others have theirs and that’s what makes this world beautiful. All the same information again and again. Like to see some one marking a video with hands-on experience. See how good actually is the dynamic range of this new sensor.
If you have seen so many videos saying the same thing repeatedly, I’m surprised you haven’t seen the two TH-camrs who already have the camera and are producing videos already. Thanks for watching though
You are such a wise guy with a wonderful humorous undertone ... very entertaining besides your brief and substantial. information. And you accent is also fine hilarious 😘
This IS NOT a "professional Cinema Camera" people! Sorry, not even in the same ball bark. The whole "6k" resolution thing is ridiculous and nothing more than a marketing thing. but I can "Re-Frame" in post! - give me a break... learn how to shoot. Remember, Huge budget movies like Captain America, the first couple Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Game of Thrones were all shot in 2k ARRI ProRes4444 not to mention 95% of all content is streamed in 1920x1080 HD or less.
It's hard to focus on the pros when you have such a big con. For years every user has been praying for a compact shape camera and they didn't listen. It's a huge disappointment, and the reason I'm not buying it.
I have the solution to all your problems…buy SONY. And what’s this silly thing with you cutting to a side view with your glasses suddenly on… So amateurish.
The new blackmagic is honestly a huge disappointment in my book other than being full frame and a new mount nothing was really significantly improved no ibis, still no auto focus honestly why not buy an a74 for the same money? Wasn't impressed blackmagic

Wise words my friend. Thanks for watching and for leaving a valuable message
Do you use blackmagic branded bats? I get about an hour on my 6k pro if im not using 12 volt and 2 hours 50 mins witht the grip. 15 mins sounds like a dead battery or bad third party one.
Maybe I will have to change it, but even when it was new used to give me about 45 minutes filming in ProRes! And no more than 30 minutes in BRaw!
@@bedenegative tripod is not an issue for me. I have a good one. I never got it cause the whole thing becomes very tall, but the hot swap is a must!
Happy upcoming weekend Ruben 😃 Cool video as always 😎 I'm don't know anything about cameras but I always learn something new from your awesome channel. 225th liked 👍 Have a wonderful safe weekend my friend 😎👍
Love your presentation. Informative, simple and effective
Thanks, brother
Very interesting. I agree with your points. Thanks for watching and leaving a great comment. Appreciate it 🙏
If BM would ''donate'' braw to Panasonic, most ppl would Just Switch to s5 ii x😂
This cam is good for me. Don’t have the money for the highest end stuff. I have a Panasonic S1 to pair
Totally fair! Thanks for leaving your thoughts 🙏
Well done

Wow, thanks for sharing this! Sorry but Is this a good place to ask a question?
Of course. Shoot!
I’m happy to see that I’m not the only one thinking this way. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and watching 🙏
Thanks for sharing, leaving a great comment and watching 🙏. Cheers
This beginner is asking you which camera would you recommend (mainly for narrative). I'm in between the BCC 6K or any of the Panasonic S5
What would you buy as a beginner camera
@@christianj1584 Panasonic GH5 is a good choice
You won’t be disappointed with this battery. Thanks for watching and for your kind words 🙏
Great video. Honest take. Looking forward to trying it out soon because, as you said, life is too short.
haha, that's right! Thanks, brother!
Excellent and insightful 😊✨
Glad you think so, Nena. Thanks
Lol I like the disappearing glasses

Just clever. Just right. I’ll go for 6Kpro 100%

😄 I know the feeling 😄. I’ll sell you mine when I make the jump! Thanks, brother. From 🌧️ Italy 🥳🎉🥁👊🎥
CF express card will be more like 500-1000 dollars/euros for one of sufficient capacity and reliability.
Im glad to know that we’re in the same page. Thanks for your support and kind words. Appreciate you 🙏
Same here, I'd keep my pro until they upgrade it with either larger internal npf battery or change the form factor.
@@Meatyowlleg Right on! Thanks, man
I have my opinions, and you have yours, and that’s what makes this world a beautiful place: contrasts! Thanks for watching!
The pro version will be coming soon and it might have everything we want , you never know
I hope you’re right, brother. I kinda lost my hopes, but as you said, you never know. Thanks for watching and looking forward to your next one ☝️🙏👊
I agree 100% with you. Thanks, brother. Appreciate your kind words
I mean they did just drop the studio mini g2 which is a box but it’s 4k I’m quite sure the image quality is the same as the 4k.

Hey Ruben! Great episode.

I'd like believe a new pocket sized, sony fx 3 like camera is in the pipeline from BMD. I hope it comes with all the specs which didn't make it to the new BlackmMagic 6K FF sooner than later🤞

I'm pretty sure they will release another camera within 5 months & most people will dislike it too. BMD does not care about what anyone thinks. SMH
Haha, thanks for sharing, brother. Cheers 🙏
I wish this would have been an E-mount. There are few L mount lenses compared to e-mount out there.
unfortunately not what BMD thinks! Thanks a lot for watching and leaving your good comment. Appreciate it 🙏
I don't shoot for netflix every day but i do a substantial amount of video work in a given year and I had to google L-mount.
Exactly. Thanks for watching, man. Cheers
Maybe they can make a pro version: Higher dynamic range, 2 card slot, ibis and continuous auto focus for $3k
Wishful thinking 😃. That would be VERY nice! Thanks for watching, brother 🙏
they are not going to make that. no ibis and af. not anytime soon.
@@JaspreetSinghArtist I agree with you
$2,600 USD. What that camera offer for the price is just mind-blowing, want more fps for that quality of image? Get a RED or ARRI.
Find us another camera that offer that kind of image quality for that price range. You "cons" are invalid and shows your lack of understanding in the area.
I'm glad to know you like it. You should get one. Thanks for watching
This IS NOT a "professional Cinema Camera" people! Sorry, not even in the same ball bark. The whole "6k" resolution thing is ridiculous and nothing more than a marketing thing. but I can "Re-Frame" in post! - give me a break... learn how to shoot.
