  • Long term review of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro.
    The BMPCC 6K Pro is now 3 years old (hard to believe) so is it a camera you should still consider or is it now too old.

    I still love mine, have no intention of upgrading anytime soon. There's just something about the 6K, I can't even describe it, the image is just uniquely gorgeous. I do look at the shiny new cameras but a slightly newer camera isn't going to make you a better filmmaker and your audience certainly won't care. I prefer to save and get a big upgrade every 5-10 years to see a huge difference in quality.
    My knackered old GH4 comes with me on family holidays and still takes lovely videos, clips I see of the 4k are still beautiful, this will still be making beautiful videos 10 years from now. Having this level of quality available to us at this price is a blessing.

    I just came here to ask... is doing the "Still Worth It?" video title still worth it in 2024?

    • @ChristopherMichaelLaw
      @ChristopherMichaelLaw  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I see what you did there. Yes, I think some combination of this title still works and will probably work for many more years to come. It’s human psychology, people who are interested in buying the camera don’t want to waste money. People might not like it but if you create videos you need to play the TH-cam game. Some people will click on a video just because of the topic but the data shows the videos performance is better with hyperbolic / sensational style titles. Maybe TH-cam will introduce A/B title testing one day and it can be tested without any other variables.

    Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm currently debating whether to go with a 6K Pro or a ZCAM S6 (both used) for narrative short films & guerrilla doc stuff. I can get a better price for the ZCAM and it shoots open gate which is great for my 1.5x anamorphic, but BM as a company gives some peace of mind that ZCAM doesn't. Still torn...

    I've been eying the 6K Pro for awhile, but ultimately I have decided to go with the Ursa Broadcast G2 to be my A cam to my Pocket 4K. It's essentially the 6K Pro in an Ursa body. Wish they called it the Ursa 6K though or something similar since I think a lot of people are avoiding it due to the Broadcast name.

    Have you experimented with the one shot focus? Can it be used repeatedly during recording or is it locked once you start recording video?

    We love ours. Shoot, we just bought another 4k because it was mint and got it for 700. Internal 12 bit 4k braw is nuts. People get tied up into the GAS of new cams.

    The bmpcc 4k is still a beast of a camera for 2024 if we're being honest. Great video, thanks for convincing me to keep my 4k, it was worth it 💯

    I’m considering buying one. Have an S5 ii x which can do BRAW external but needs a monitor and the rolling shutter is atrocious and can’t be corrected like BM can using gyro.
    How do you find the NDs in bright sunlight? Presumably even the 6 isn’t going to be enough stops if you’re shooting wide open. Do you find you still need to add an ND from time to time?

    I encountered the same issue at the 2023 Chicago Air and Water Show when my camera refused to turn on. I later suspected it was due to a power overload or self-protection mechanism, particularly as it occurred while I was attaching my Sigma 100-400 lens. This lens might occasionally draw excessive current from the camera, triggering it to shut off. Fortunately, the camera mysteriously came back to life after about 15 minutes, just as I was texting my friends to tell them it had died. I haven't experienced any similar problems since then, but the incident did raise some concerns about the camera's reliability.

      Yeah, it can be scary when your camera doesn't want to turn on. It's probably one of the few areas that Blackmagic have struggled with in their cameras - reliability. Hopefully it's something they will get better with as they gain more experience, but to be fair it can effect any camera brand. Red didn't have the best reputation either.
