Finally, someone who actually showed a proper test, and from beginning to end. This was an excellent video. Thank you Wayne for all your effort in this video.
Probably the best presentation for restoring headlights across the board. You can take out certain steps with other restoration products out there and apply those certain steps accordingly. E.G., the the water, the sanding, the buffing, clear coat, etc. Just fantastic. Thank you.
Thanks for the step-by-step instructions. Followed them and had excellent results. One thing I did stumbled onto - if I briefly turned my lights on it was easier to see where I needed more work on the sanding. I discovered this after I was done. 🙂
I've watched a lot of these diy video's and restored the headlights on two trucks with a different product. I bought some of the components from this kit as I already have a polisher. This is the very best video I've watched and the lady taping it did a great job, no shaking and the voice is very clear. Thanks so much for posting it.
I used this product today on my Z4 and it worked fantastically. Easy to do. The kit has everything needed. The wool buffing pad was made very well which made getting into corners easy and effective. Hats off to Maguiar's.
I’ve been looking for a good tutorial and honestly yours is the best hands down. You may not be a professional but you’ve explained this better than an professional by far. Thank you specially for saying how much pressure to use with the sand paper.
Wow, impressive. You added that you are not a professional but, sir, your work is superior to some so-called "professionals" that I have encountered! Excellent job!
Nasim Wehbe I did three cars at the same time and these were the worse but all three cars are still looking awesome! If you can use the link under the video “show more” area because it really helps me to make these videos. Thanks!
Thanks a ton! I've had my current car for almost a year and kept putting off doing this because I thought it was going to be a huge pain. I watched your video and finally got up off my ass and just did it. Spent maybe 5 minutes per lamp and the difference is HUGE. It could probably be a little better if I spent more time on it, which I'm sure I will in the future. Thanks getting me up off my ass!! LOL
Spider Wayne ❤ #1 your an awesome friend! #2 literally LOL at “no free rides” and lastly thank you for making this so simple for anyone to understand 🎉 we appreciate you 👏 👏
Thought I'd offer another perspective. This product also works extremely well on tail lights! I did my 2002 Chevy pick-up's three tail lights, and while not "showroom new", they are phenomenal in comparison to what they were after 16+ years of ignoring! Now granted, a trucks lights are certainly more conducive to polishing given that they are typically a smooth contour, but it's something to consider if your lights are foggy or hazy orange peeled. Remember that what is behind you is important too, so why not?
OMG!!! WAYNE! It’s Julie, I was looking up how to restore my headlights and was scrolling through the videos when I saw your face. 🤔 I thought, that looks like Wayne! 🤔. So I clicked and watched your video. Nice Job on the video and the headlights! 🏆. Hope I see you around sometime soon! 😁
Hey Julie! How cool is that!!! Contact me through either my TH-cam page or go to my site SpiderWayne.com and contact me through there. Would love to catch up on things!
Great video now I know how to use the kit properly. thanks for the upload. Will be trying this tonight! Hopefully my results are as good as yours. Trying on a ‘90 Volvo 740 turbo and ‘05 Toyota Matrix.
A couple of things to consider. Never use Windex or any other window cleaner on your plastic lenses. Windex contains ammonia which attacks the factory clear coating on the lenses. Over time, ammonia fogs the clear coating. Also, never use paper towels to clean your headlights. The fibers in the paper towel will scratch the plastic headlight lens. You wouldn't use paper towel to clean your glasses so don't use it to clean your clear plastic headlights. Paper towel works on glass, but it scratches plastic (and auto paint). Nice video!
C. Franklin Kielich he should of used the microfiber cloth instead of paper towel and of course used soapy water to clean the debris before starting this process. overall came out good. I love Maguiers Products.
Used this on wife’s car last January and still holding up. The clear coat is, by far, is what makes it last and can be a bit tricky. Do just one pass as shown in video, that s... dries quick. I was able to do three cars with this kit and still have extra product. The sanding discs wear out, but they are an easy purchase. Overall great value!
I was with him right up to using the paper towel AFTER the correction and polishing. In theory the paper towel you used to remove dirt prior to correction should be the last time a paper towel would touch the lens. Results are impressive though. I have not used this kit but O can speak well of the Meguiar’s product line of car care products in general. Polishes, Claybar, towels, compounds, glazes, scratch/swirl remover. Also a headlight film can help to prolong the effectiveness of the repair.
Before I knew about this video, I used the Mother's Headlight Restoration Kit on my 1999 Mercury Mystique today, and it only gave some positive results. The sand paper, that came with the kit, wore down very fast, and then I used the polish. I'll go through it again, but without the wet sanding, maybe in a couple of days, after the weather cools down a little.

Hello !!! I got the Mcguiars Kit many years ago to restore the headlights of my 2002 Hyundai Elantra y you know? After I applied the results were amazing, I can recommend the Kit because it is worth each penny. It was the first time I did something for my car and I felt proud of the results. Get it, DIY, and save money.
Excellent video, lot of helpful hints you won't find in the instructions that come with the kit to help you keep from screwing up you headlight lens. I followed Spider's instructions using the Mequiars HD kit and the lens on my 2014 Honda Accord look like new. Thanks Spider!
Good video. I used the same kit on my 06 Honda Ridgeline headlights that were just about as bad off as this Jeep. Came out really nice and clear with the Meguiars kit. Definitely would recommend this for badly yellowed headlights. The whole process took only about 45 minutes to do both. I'll be interested to see how long it lasts before they need repolishing.
Meguiars says it lasts up to a year. Keywords "up to" so it's really hard to say. I would say just give it a year and see what it does. If you notice a little oxidation, you could always clean them again and then know for next time to reappply the clear coat more often.
Watching this in 2020 looking for a better way to clean my headlights, and this is it. I found it. Worst I've seen and best results I've seen. You did a great job 🕷️ Wayne ! Just a quick question, did you use both grids on both headlights ?
This is the best and most informational video ever and bro you did a amazing job and it’s just out of this world the results you have got yourself a subscriber
very good video iv'e had my cleaner on the shelf for 2 years i finally decided to clean my headlights ' it took 2 years to recover from hurricane Laura ! total disaster 2 years ago Vinton Louisiana '
Great video. Glad you explain everything. Question: is that a 3” or 6” wool pad? It’s hard to find this kit anymore and so I’m piecing it all together. Thank you!

Just bought that kit yesterday redid my headlights and they came out amazing only issue I had was the final step clear coat I followed directions per bottle and box. It left my headlights like it went on with a paintbrush with lines and had to resend and start all over and just didn’t do final step
At 6:00 had you used more than one grit of sandpaper ? 7:40 probably could have done a rinse/wipe and then used some more buffing polish with the drill depending on what you see after flushing the debris away. I think there is a technique for moving the sponge with the clearcoat slow and deliberate so that the plastic has a chance to "drink" the clearcoat solution. Like you said, with some of the products you can only do one coat of it or it will smear and not "level" . So don't want to leave any gaps. I'd recommend having at least 3 of those fancy soft wiping car care clothes at hand, before starting to put on the clearcoat you must be absolutely dry and clean, also don't want any rain or dew getting on the headlight for preferably several hours and the cure might take several days to reach full hardness- don't wash it or scrub it for a week or so I see you were able to get away from doing a second coat of clear, that's probably good. I think the Ceracote will smear up if you tried to do that.
Bought and used the same Meguiar’s heavy duty headlight restoration kit. Sanded with both the 1000 and the 3000 til the water ran clear, applied Plast-X and buffed it multiple times using my drill. Headlights still cloudy and oxidated. Not a happy camper. No fault of yours Spider Wayne. Just seeing if there’s something I’m missing although it appears to be pretty straight forward with the directions on box and your great video. Any help would be greatly appreciated! (Also used on Jeep Grand Cherokee)

I use a blue kitchen scotch scratch (blue does not scratch plastic in the kitchen Ex. microwave controls, the green scratch does scratch/scars plastic) and Meguiars Restore & Polish which did an amazing job. I was still not satisfied, so used the blue scratch pad and wet baking soda - which took another layer of the oxidated yellow scum off. I did use Meguiars polish to try and protect it for 6 months. This only lasts 6 months, it must be restored biannually.
Polish is different than the UV protectant. If you only use polish it will need more attention, since that doesn't protect against the UVs which caused the initial problem.

The McGuire stuff works well. I have used it. But, instead of using the clear coat provided I used a ceramic clear coat which will protect it better and last for several years. But, it is very expensive. Around $65 for a small bottle. Good job!
I gotta tell you guys, I’ve done headlight restorations with a couple different kits and some DYI with 000 steel wool. Went ahead and hit my son’s car with some “mother’s mag” polish earlier this week and a microfiber cloth- it took me longer to find the compound than it did to rub it out.
I just made a video today with Meguiar's PlastX and Meguiar's headlight coating spray, and wet sanding with sand pads and buffer kit from the RainX kit.

i don't wait for my headlights to get in that condition i use the Meguiars ultimate compound together with a drill attachment also from them works perfectly Meguiars great products
Went through with it using this method on a 2013 infiniti g37x..not perfect but very noticeable differences. Little difficulty with the different shapes and contours on my lights but nonetheless, still turned out great. thanks!
Good info. I have one car that needs this process done and a 3 year old truck that I would like to prevent it from happening to. Do you have any ideas that could help me prevent it from happening to. I do clean my truck headlights frequently and I have NOT applied any wax or clear coat to them so far. Someone applied some product to my van and told me that it would keep the headlights in mint shape...well, it wasn’t even 3 months later that the headlights started getting foggy. I’m glad that I didn’t buy their product!
Like I said in the e video I'm no expert. With that being said I've seen other products on TH-cam and Amazon that you might want to look into for preventing any damage to your headlights like ceramic coatings or clear adhesive film. Recently I saw a video for a WetherTech LampGuard product that looked like it might work.
Depends on the size of the lights. However for most average sized lights I think yes. But some cars have really big headlights and you'll only get one set done. I have done two cars with one kit before though. My buddy has a truck and could only do the one set with his kit. Good luck!
Turned out great, however, I was watching another video by a professional and he said you should alternate directions with each sandpaper. So for 1000 grit go up and down and for the 3000 go left to right. He said that this helps level off any scratches made by the sandpaper. He also used 3 sandpapers. He started with 800, then 1000 and 3000. Obviously, the kit doesn't include the 800 but if you went out and bought it, you would get better results.

Cerakote just came out with a headlight restoration kit that finishes off with a wipe-on ceramic coating so you NEVER have to do this again! It even has a lifetime guarantee. You can find it on amazon under Cerakote Ceramic Headlight Restoration Kit.

This is one of the best videos out there. Great job bro. How long will that clear coat last untill you put another layer. Thanks
Thanks! I put a fresh coat on them about every 2-3 washes and so far it looks completely the same. Probably overkill that often but I do it anyway.

Apply Horizontally only. Don't over apply, small amount will go along way. You can always add. Allow 12-24 hours to completely dry.

Thanks and I think you'll be happy with the results. It's a really good kit.
Meguiar's needs to add the Velcro drill chuck, 1500-4000 grit sand pads, and the buffer pad all with Velcro backs like the RainX kit.

Talked to the owner of the car and she said they still look great and she hasn’t been touching it up at all. I suggested she should 😁
Watched you video, bought the same stuff, had good results, thanks!!
Glad it worked out for you too!

I completely agree :)
It's better to use Meguiars Headlight coating spray instead, its better to apply, spray it on 1-2 times every year after a quick clean
well that sold me, ill be using Mequiars. Good job mate.
It’s good stuff! Thanks!
I like the out come of this video. Awesome!

i don't wait for my headlights to get in that condition i use the Meguiars ultimate compound together with a drill attachment also from them works perfectly Meguiars great products
Preventative is good thing. Thanks!
Went through with it using this method on a 2013 infiniti g37x..not perfect but very noticeable differences. Little difficulty with the different shapes and contours on my lights but nonetheless, still turned out great. thanks!
Excellent ! Glad it worked for you.
Best tutorial ever. Well done! 👍
Thanks!
Any thoughts on applying a second coat?
I apply the clear every few times I wash my car.
How has it held up ?
been a few years now and they still look great!
its been 7 months now. are the headlights still clear? just wanna know if that clear coat lasted this long.
Yep still clear. After every few washes I re-apply the head light coating.
SpiderWayne 🧐 Thanks for the info. I will look into that and experiment some if needed. Keep up the good work! 🤩 Stay sage and healthy. ✌️
Thanks for sharing the step by step details. Do you think one kit can cover 2 cars (4 headlights)?
Depends on the size of the lights. However for most average sized lights I think yes. But some cars have really big headlights and you'll only get one set done. I have done two cars with one kit before though. My buddy has a truck and could only do the one set with his kit. Good luck!
@@spiderwayne thanks for the quick response!!
@@mashimaro2626 You're welcome!
Thanks for posting a real video.
You're welcome!

I'll contact them and see if they will let me demo a kit. Thanks!
this video was super helpful! thank you!

Yeah this kit works great. Still looking awesome.
Any ideas on how to strip the sealant from car paint? I used too much and it stained my bumper
