I would like to know too. I've seen Social Security pull their check back the day after the payee died. Maybe it depends on what state you live in? Some states may have strict reporting policies when there's a death. It still doesn't excuse the billions of dollars in cashed checks by dead people

I am intimately familiar with this processing. Many States report the death electronically to SSA and benefit payments are terminated. The bank is automatically notified and they close the bank account. This is done thru an interface with SSA and Treasury. There are other controls in place to mitigate the chance of this happening.
You know the thing that really angers me when my husband passsed away from cancer and I signed up my kids for survival benefits. We have paid into SS all our working lives. They treated me like I was trying to steal from them but there were non English people in there and they were treated like royals. Food drinks etc while I was informed that I had to submit receipts to them showing I spent the money. It had to be for food clothes and shelter. They treated me like I was a crook when I just lost my husband and my children’s father. When he passed away. the social security administration continued trying to put his checks into an account that had been closed for almost six months before they decided to start sending paper checks to his home. A home that had been sold almost a year before the first checks started showing up. To this day, the IRS is still sending paperwork trying to tell my deceased father that he hasn’t paid his taxes in the last five years…..you know, since he passed away.

Companies got millions, not just 400k. Its so easy to track earnings under a LLC thru taxes paid but countless folks suddenly created LLCs and others used EIN# they hadn't used in quite a while. Tho, NONE of this info is just available in some magic computer. States are responsible for the LLCs issued per state. O guess so many businesses were going down, so quickly bc most small biz live like us, paycheck to paycheck but NOW there is no excuse to go back & do the research & put prison or immediate pay back of funds
$400,000 is just a "talking point". The reality is the 80,000 new IRS agents need something to do to earn their big paychecks and benefits package. So they comi after you because they are suspicious because you are driving a 10 year old Elantra

You are paying for the people who accept the packages, store them, and distribute them to the floors. THEN, THE nurses who administer them to patients. So one Asprin is part of the salaries and hospital operating costs. Same if you order a glass of wine in a restaurant that you know will cost you more than from a bottle bought in a store.
ONE OF THE MISERABLE things that drove hospitals to scramble to cover operating costs were the HMOs and then OBAMACARE. HMOs caused small hospitals to close or align as Corporations with other independent hospitals. OBAMACARE also saw more smaller hospitals become aligned with larger hospitals. And, OBAMACARE also created havoc for small FAITH-BASED HOSPITTALS that were already beginning to struggle..because they were run with donations, as well. Many of Faith-Based hospitals had a larger share of Charity cases. And, many of us remember the miserable existence of HMOs having to review your health care before you could get it.

My family, my kids, my future grand kids, my future kids of my grand kids, will work 40-50 years of their adult lives, and pay commensurate federal taxes from their paychecks. It is sad that they will pay all those taxes and it still won’t replace the taxpayer money squandered by sending checks to dead people. I am glad the OMB is “looking into it” but after 2 years and zero results, I think me and my family will be paying taxes that might as well be flushed down the toilet.

This happened with my dad. When he passed away. the social security administration continued trying to put his checks into an account that had been closed for almost six months before they decided to start sending paper checks to his home. A home that had been sold almost a year before the first checks started showing up. To this day, the IRS is still sending paperwork trying to tell my deceased father that he hasn’t paid his taxes in the last five years…..you know, since he passed away.
Easy fix if you spend money on upgrading the IT programs and equipment.
