    At the 4:10 mark, you talk about the timeline resolution must match the output resolution. I film with a GoPro in 4K 59.94 frames, my computer can't handle that on the timeline, so I choose 1080 59.94 frames. Before I render I switch the timeline back to 4K 60 frames, then render at 4K 59.94 frames, is this correct?

    • @SebastianFriedrichVisuals
      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey!
      You are 100% correct on this! On heavy timelines I usually turn down the timeline res as well for smoother editing and before I render I turn the resolution back up, so that’s totally fine!:)

    Hey so please correct me if im wrong, as I'm not a genuis in any of these topics, but I just want to ask for some help. I copied all your settings except for the resolution which I changed to custom and used 2560 x 1440, and I uploaded a short minute and a half clip of me playing minecraft to youtube. I recorded with OBS, with a CQP level of 14 60 FPS, and a resolution 1920 x 1080. It didn't take long to upload, which is the problem that I've been encountering a lot, but when it was fully uploaded the quality still seemed really bad. I have a 4060 TI and a Intel I7 13700F so I don't know what could be making it so bad.

    • @SebastianFriedrichVisuals
      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The first thing I see why quality is reduced, is you’re recording 1080 but outputting 1440. leave the output the size your recording is, otherwise you take a smaller image and upscale it to a larger one = poor quality.
      So try those settings:
      Timeline and output frame rate : 60
      Timeline and output res: 1080
      Color Timeline and output: 709; gamma 2.4
      Delivery:
      Mp4 / h.264
      Bitrate 60.000
      That‘ll do the job

    Is it worth buying the paid version to get the 'best' quality download?

    • @SebastianFriedrichVisuals
      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Emily - I don’t quite get the question, what download? In terms of pure quality, there’s not a real difference in paid vs free version - but on the studio version you are able to work with 10bit + images, which will lead to better quality ultimately but you have to have a camera that can shoot 10bit+

    4k resolution is 4 times the resolution of FHD, why its *2, not *4?

    • @SebastianFriedrichVisuals
      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Whilst what you said is true, technically you could do *4, but the image improvement you get with that compared to the massively larger file size is neglectable. Also if you do a comparison between *2 and *4, you won't see much of a difference, but you'll run into storage issues rather fast.

    • @SebastianFriedrichVisuals
      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh absolutely, you‘re correct. But that’s just due to the fact that 1. the screen recording was done in 1080 as I don’t have a 4 K monitor, so it‘s normal that you lose some details when upscaling and 2. it’s partially zoomed in 200% to showcase the settings better, which drops image quality and detail even further. If we neglect these 2 facts, one could come to the conclusion that the video is just „blurry“, yeah

    Why didn't you cover "multi-pass encode"? Way better results with that without increasing the file quality. Also there's much better timeline colour spaces to work in than Rec709 to get the most out of Resolve tools, Davinci WG and Davinci Intermediate for example

    • @SebastianFriedrichVisuals
      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know, but most of my following just does social media content / TH-cam videos, multi pass encode isn’t needed imho as the compression on those platforms make it almost irrelevant.
      Of course WG / Intermediate is a better color space to work in, (and I do so, too) but once again, I gotta think about my audience and what they’re doing. Going through te DWG / Intermediate process just adds another layer of complexity, which most people don’t care about for a simple TikTok / Reel / YT short

    The timeline colorspace should be (left side Rec709) and (right side Rec 2.4) and the output color space (left side Rec 709) and the (right side Rec709 A) I can proof this, just import your movie the way you have your setup in Final Cut and you will see the movie is much more bright. The way I describe it looks the same as well in Davinci and Final Cut. Also at preferences you are right about the display but also set system-general- automatically tag Rec 709 scene clips as Rec709A.

    What do you think about AV1, it s supposed to be better than h.265 but even better compression. Also, what color profile to use on Windows 11?

    • @SebastianFriedrichVisuals
      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Haven’t heard or tested that codec, because most platforms take a while to adapt to new codecs and when I deliver for clients it’s always just ProRes & h264 - as for the color profile, .709 & gamma 2.4 🤝🏽

    Thank you for the video. I am having a lot of problems downloading my videos to youtube and they look like crap. It seem to be a variable bitrate issue, maybe. The ground blurs in areas like it cant focus which DJI action 4 doesn't have to focus. it also draws a pixilated halo around some objects while everything else is clear. Why does your DaVinci resolve not have the Rate control as mine does? is it because i am using a NVidia graphics card? I have learned I cant use AV1 because that is only Radeon cards. Its a bit frustrating. i am trying constant bitrate instead of variable to see if that helps. Any help would be much appreciated.

    bitrate encoding is pretty ancient technology, the thing you should really use is quality based enocoding which keeps the same quality over every frame
    variable bitrate is always a guessing game and isn't accurate, also you get much bigger video files from it that doesnt need to be that big for that quality
    quality based encoding isnt offered by a lot of encoders unfortunatley, x264 and x265 is supporting that (CQP/CRF) and is pretty efficent

    Hi Sebastian.
    I just returned from a trip where I shot lots of video. All in 4k but some at 30fps and some at 60fps. I would shoot at 60fps if I was panning the camera for smoother footage. I am about to start editing it in Davinci Reslove but has a question before starting. You say in the beginning of your video it's important to have the timeline format the exact same as the render settings. How do I set those setting with the different frame rates?

    • @SebastianFriedrichVisuals
      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Shepard, thanks for the question!
      So basically you have 3 framerates in a project:
      - Input (which is what your clips are at)
      - Timeline (which is the framerate you edit in)
      - Export (which is the framerate you export in)
      Timeline and Export should match (and I believe you can’t change export framerate after setting your timeline framerate) and you can set your Timeline framerate in the project settings, bottom right corner of resolve. I always edit in 24/25fps - doesn’t mean you have to do the same!
      If you plan on slowing down your clips to slowmotion in post, you have to go to 24fps timeline framerate so you then have the option to slow down the 30fps /60fps clips.
      But you can also set your timeline framerate to 30fps, now your 30fps clips will playback in real time and you have the option to slow down the 60fps to slow motion in post!
      I hope this answers your questions, if anything is not clear, feel free to send me a DM on Instagram!:)

      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jerome!
      If you‘re exporting 60fps I guess storage and file size is no problem for you - just try 100-120K (4K) or 50-60K (1080p). If it still doesn’t look right for you, try exporting in .264 with the same bitrates mentioned above and see if you like that better- some people prefer .264! 🙏🏽

      I can see that you’re a little confused here as I said: „use your timeline framerate and multiply it by 1000“ - which makes perfect sense. But you just replaced the „framerate“ with „resolution“ to make the math - 1080 is not a framerate.

    Thank you, another important thing: If you export in H264 you should even double the Kb/s.
    So for getting best quality: H265 in 24fps 4K should be: 48.000 kb/s
    H264 in 24fps 4K should be 96.000 Kb/s

    • @ItzGoldfish1
      @ItzGoldfish1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why do you say that? .265 compresses more than .264

    • @tuberisnaturesparesort
      @tuberisnaturesparesort ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ItzGoldfish1 Because H264 needs more Kb/s for having the same quality as H265.

    • @christian-schubert
      @christian-schubert ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Debatable. While yes, you DO get 4 four times the pixels of a 1080p video (i.e. quadruple the data), it is also true that there's a certain threshold where the difference in quality becomes barely noticable. It all boils down to who your target audience[s] on what platform[s] is[are].
      For one, TH-cam is not going to play back your 4K video at a Bitrate of 96.000 Kb/s.
      Even if you rendered your video for local consumption exclusively, a huge Bitrate will most probably result in overwhelming your gear which in turn will result in a stuttering choppy playback of your material. If YOUR computer can only scoff at this statement, well, kudos to you for working on such a beefy machine. 99% of the population won't get the same experience out of it.
      You're preparing a film festival and have access to a professional (wherever you draw the line there...) projector? Well, quite frankly, why bother with H.264/265 compression at all? This isn't the video for you.
      Also - in a sense, H.264 doesn't need "more Kb/s", it's rather that H.265 needs "LESS Kb/s" given that it is the new kid on the block. So if you rendered your 24fps video at the propagated 48.000 Kb/s, you could most likely go LOWER with H.265 to achieve similar results.
      In the end, it's always a tradeoff. However, following the purported "frame rate * 2000" principle should yield you more than satisfactory results in 99.9% of the cases.

I just tried to render my first project, which gave me a "Render job file 1 fail the ed as current clip could not be processed." Hello, I need help on bitrate. When exporting in MP4 (h264, sometimes problem exist on h265), I am having low bitrates of about 6,000 Kbps. I believe "Restrict to" just indicates the ceiling bitrate so technically it can go from 0 - Restrict. And there's no way of setting the floor value. I don't know why it doesn't max out the bitrate. And also it's weird that nobody is talking about this. Can you confirm that the video file you export with the settings you mentioned have the bitrate closest to restrict? I'm on Windows 11 using Davinci free.

    • @SebastianFriedrichVisuals
      @SebastianFriedrichVisuals  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tim! Haven’t had that issue but it might be possible due to lower bitrate recording. What you could try is quality based encoding - it should, in theory, give you good results depending on the quality that you choose (it’s a drop-down menu) that is also located in the same tab. Can’t give you detailed info about this out of the back of my head, but I‘ll provide more detailed information later to this comment, if needed, and you didn’t already find it!:)

    • @agottims
      @agottims ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SebastianFriedrichVisuals Thanks for the reply Sebastian! I think you're right with the lower bitrate recording. I tried a footage of higher bitrate and the export's bitrate adjusted higher. And if you're doing animations of simple graphics the bitrate is low. But this is not the case with one of my colleagues. Once we we're working on the same high bitrate raw file but her export has very low bitrate compared to mine, like 7,000 kbps is to 54,000 kbps. That was very weird and I couldn't figure out why. In the end we just went with 7000. Since then I looked at bitrate treatment in Davinci (at least for MP4) very ambiguous. A workaround I figured out is export from Davinci as DNxHR MOV and convert it to MP4 using Adobe Media Encoder, which when I adjust bitrate there it works as expected.
      Btw I couldn't find that quality based encoding setting, though I'm not in urgent need of it anyways. But again, thank you for the help!
