Thanks for the video. Not only did I replace a 5 legged transistor and solder a jumper wire to a burned up Hypertherm Powermax 30 plasma cutter PCB with amazing results but I also replaced a burst capacitor inside a brand new SIMADRE CUT 50 Chinese "plasma cutter" sadly with no luck. It does have a dead black digital panel very much like yours so I will look inside it again to hopefully get it going. It was received DOA by my friend that gave it to me. The Hypertherm was a $100 gamble and with the short cut testing I have conducted thus far it works fine.

Well done. I would feel more comfortable with one of these cheap cutters if I had already repaired it. DOA seams to be the standard and you got a relatively easy repair. Thanks for posting this.

Nice repair Dean, well traced, fixed and described. Most people would have just thrown this away, hopefully it will last a good while now. Cheers, Jon

Nice repair Dean. Plasmas are very handy to have around. You know how I get a lot of stuff from a certain scrap yard, well a few years back they had a nice brand plasma just like the one I have been using at work come in with lots of other machines and somehow one of the guys unloading everything hit the side of the plasma with the forklift fork. They ended up just giving it to me. The company that made it took the parts off a old parts machine they had around and sent them to me free of charge. How many company's do that on a 20 year old machine. I filmed the complete repair but like so many of my other projects I don't make time to put together a video. Thanks for the reminder that I still should show my repair on it.
Its Saturday morning at 8:30 and its going to be a nice weekend weather wise so im heading out to uncover the new Monarch Lathe and pull the spindle so I can repair the broken shift fork. It will be nice to get it up and running. Always nice watching your videos Dean. You have a great weekend. Gary

Thanks Gary, That would be a nice video.. It's amazing how many company's don't get the customer service side of business. I deal with tech support a lot in my trade, both as a client and as a rep. I always try to help anyway I can and most of time it's off the clock. Had a instance once with a major equipment manufacturer who we purchase millions $$ annually with. There support was questionable / poor, we finally got permission from the local and factory rep to work directly with the factory support. My first call to them on a major issue....Technician's response was a smirky "Why are you calling us?" "Only our people can call" I did get my answer, although with a attitude. One never knows who there talking to, I was pretty high up in the company. We removed them from the approved vendor list a few week latter. Enjoy the weekend...Dean

Great methodical trouble shooting. I've spent my career in electronics from the military till I retired. I spotted your Simpson 260 I have one that was retired at a company I worked for when they went to digital multi meters still works. Typical of Chinese products even though it has many QC labels most likely it wasn't turned on before shipping too costly let the buyer check it out. I had the same situation with a plasma cutter I bought through Amazon. Fired it up and it worked for no more than 5 seconds. The company replaced it but after I paid $50 for return shipping.

Thanks John ! Yeah when I see suspicious meter readings or something that's fluctuating I grab the old 260. The digitals are great most of the time, but a good analog meter can save the day. Definitely pays to check the return policy and shipping on expensive import items.

Good repair and nice work Dean. These units are "symbolism over substance" of real equipment IMHO, but hey, that'l work!👍

Kind of like most things from China. You have to work on them before they will work.

Did you ever measure the current to see how many amps it actually puts out? A lot of cheaper ones are known to deliver quite a bit less than what they are rated for.

No, but that's a good idea. I'll try to do that in a future video. It might be a while though...
      Thanks for the comment..

use fish tank silicone or electrical grade silicone ,normal silicone gives off acetic acid(vinegar) and destroys copper traces around it's a vapour so it will reach inside enclosed units like control gear.....oops.

@@OldSkoolF Yep we use the same terminology. A lot of folks would be surprised that HVAC service is 80 % electrical trouble shooting and repair.
