his father died wen he was 12 from cancer, his mother died when he was 13 from a heart attack. He was taken in by his much older siblings. The end is his setting fire to his sadness and to move forward.

Thank you for your reaction. 😮
For me the winner of Eurovision Songcontest 2024. Sad lyrics, a ode/letter to his parents in a happy hardcore melody of the 90's, originated in The Netherlands. When he was 12 years old, his dad died, and his mother died when he was 13 years. He promised his dad that one day he will be performing on the Eurovision Songcontest stage. His papa=dad told him that there were no grenzen= borders=boundaries=limitations. The world has no boundaries so he travelled to every country in Europe, with good food, but even that couldn't keep him from feeling the pain and being alone without his parents. He paid many money for therapy but no one could help him. He with the two other guys on the scooters are in the colour of the Dutch national flag. The white one his angel, the red one the devil.
The burning of his childhood house and picture simbolise him leaving the pain in the past, and a new fresh beginning, without forgetting the memories.
    12 points to The Netherlands!

  • @Hades035

It has nothing to do with Europe :)
He was watching eurovision with his dad when he was younger and he said he would be on stage at eurovision one day. his dad told him that he should follow his dreams and if he wants something, he could do it. So he listened to him :)
The song is actually a bit sad. As others already stated, he lost his parents at a very young age. There are a lot of double meanings / connections to his parents and surely i am missing something but ill try to name some:
Like the song is called "euro-papa" because papa is dad in dutch.
He is singing that he goes to other places but he feels lonely. He lost everything except time. he is struggeling
He is giving people money but nobody is helping him. He went to mental healthcare but they could not help him.
He is talking about the song Papaoutai from stromae. Papa outai means "dad is here" and the phrase Où t'es? Papa où t'es? means Where are you? Dad where are you? check out the lyrics of that song too :)
He is also mentioning "i wont stop until they say, yes he does that very well" because he is seeking pride from his parents.
The ending is pretty clear but i think he is talking to his dad and his younger him and he tells his dad that he listend to him.
Also the burning picture and burning house stands for him closing that chapter and he wants to move on and dont want to feel the pain anymore. while he was in therapy they used burning stuff to let go the old

The 3 people at the end are actually 3 versions of Joost, so not his father. It represents that he has to let go of his sadness ar the loss of his parents, otherwise he will remain stuck in his past, however much he travels. So he burns his past, to allow him to let go

With credits to @edojan and @vbzwd24:
Joost watched Eurovision with his parents before they passed away. He was only 12 years old then. He promised his father that he would enter it one day!!
Although the song is catchy and fun, the lyrics are serious. Joost struggled with his pain and heartache but with this song and the promise he made to his father, the circle is complete and he wants to let go of all this pain.
He said in an interview that his mother would be proud right now and his father would probably laugh at his outfit and goofy song. Beautiful thoughts...
Many people look for the deeper meaning of the song or, without having dutch as a native language, feel the need to understand what this song is about. Have a read:
(Welcome in Europe, I'll stay here till I die)
Welcome in a world without borders, without constraints. I will never let myself be constricted.
    --> Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    (Euro-dad-dy, Euro-dad-dy)
--> Bezoek m'n friends in France
(I visit my friends in France)
'Friends' translated in France is 'Amis' Amis was author of e.g. 'Invasion of the Space Invaders' and 'Money'. Joost didn't visit friends in a country, he identified himself with characters in books.
--> Of neem de benen naar Wenen.
(or take a walk to Vienna)
In Dutch 'de benen nemen' has two meanings. Literally is means 'to walk', but figuratively it means 'running away' Same counts for 'Wenen'. Translated to English can mean 'the capital of Austria 'Vienna' but can also be translated to 'crying'. So, it can mean 'walk to Vienna' or 'running away to despair'
(I want to leave the Netherlands, but my passport is gone)
I want to run away from my childhood, run away from my pain, but I lost my identity. I don't know who I am anymore, I'm lost.
(I don't need a visa to be with you)
There's is nothing what can stop me to be with you, you are in my heart.
--> Dus neem de bus naar Polen
(So I take the bus to Poland)
Besides transportation, a bus is also a conductor. Polen, in Dutch, is the plural of pool. In English poles. So magnetism. With a balance of positive and negative ends.
--> of de trein naar Berlijn
    (or the train to Berlin)
First; the Berlin Wall was the symbol of the Cold War and a divided Europe. The fall of the Berlin Wall symbolizes the start of a united Europe. Second; the track 'Friesenjung' of Joost Klein is co-written by his friend, the Berlin rapper Ski Aggu.
(I don't have money for Paris, so I use my imagination)
Paris is the city of love. But there's no currency in the world that can buy his father back. He only can use his imagination to be reunited with his father
--> Heb je een еuro'tje, please? Zеg "merci" en "alsjeblieft"
(can you spare a euro, please? Say "merci" en "here you are")
Can I have a bit of your wealth, please? In return I will share a bit of my love with you.
(I lost everything, except the time)
I lost everything what's important to me (his parents) the only thing that remains is the time he has left in his life, without his father a burden.
(So I'm travelling every day because the world is mine)
He's running, searching, trying to find something. Every day over and over and again in a world where he feels lonely.
(I'm in Germany, but I'm so alone)
The track 'Friesenjung' was a huge hit in Germany. He made it in Germany, but he can't share his successes with the one who is most inportant to him.
(I'm in Italy, but it hurts)
In his track 'Ome Robert' Joost sings (well actually screams), 'Who are you? I'm a god!'. But even the gods of the Roman empire are not enough to soothen the pain.
(I'm running away from myself, call for help the whole day)
I don't want to be the person as I am today, don't want to feel the pain anymore. But I can't do this on my own. I need help. Perhaps he asks his dad for help but realizes he is on his own.
(Yes, I even give mondey to peole, but there's nobody who helps)
I need help and I'm willing to share everything I have, but nobody understands my pain. I feel alone and lonely.
(I don't need escargots, don't need fish 'n' chips. Don't need paella, no, I'm not even sure what it is)
I'm not interested in luxury, not interested in traditions, not interested in exotic places.
(turn on the radio, I hear Stromae with "Papaoutai")
I tune in and hear someone in a similiar situation (Stromae lost his father as well) echoing my thoughts ('Papaoutai' means 'Daddy, where are you?')
(Will not stop until they say: "yeah, yeah, he doing a great job, ey")
I'm a insecure and will not stop until I got the confirmation that I'm on the right track. That I'm doing a good job. A tab on the shoulder will do.
And there you have it. Europapa is a masterpiece....
In my opinion Joost created a masterpiece indeed. We even know that he does it all himself. He designed the goofy suit on his iPad and everything we can see in the video clip or at the live performance is totally from his own creativity. There are only a few friends he trusts and are allowed to advice, but for 99% it’s all Joost you hear and see. To me has been proven that Joost is a terific artist with huge creativity. In this performance, he did it all. He entertained, he surprised, there was a specific meaning, built the climax and the unexpected serious, very emotional and personal finish made this song perfectly complete. Masterpiece it is!

Why don't you turn on those subtitles.
It is included in all languages.
Because you are not familiar with the language, you miss the entire essence of this song.
And because of this alone, the non-English songs often lose a lot of points. While they all say that more action should be taken in their own language and culture.
If you turn on subtitles, we give non-English performing groups a fairer chance compared to all those English-speaking groups.
This Song is not only a work of art musically, but also a work of art lyrically.
Showing an entire life with all its wishes and sorrows in three minutes, ultimately ending in a conclusion in which he ends the same past and present by burning it all for a new beginning.
But unfortunately, because of that, this Song will end up with the jury members who have no knowledge of art and forget to include the translation.
