  • "Berserker" is an aggressive and heavy work written for advanced solo marimba and accompanied by a supporting ensemble of 5 percussionists. While not directly programmatic, the atmosphere, title, and challenge to the soloist are reflective of Japanese artist Kentaro Miura’s critically acclaimed graphic manga series "Berserk."
Berserker was commissioned by Mineola High School in Mineola, TX for their showcase performance at the 2020 Texas Music Educators Association National Convention in San Antonio, TX, featuring marimbist Dr. Brian Zator as the premiere soloist.
    Composer: Caleb Pickering
Performers: Texas A&M University-Commerce Percussion Ensemble
Student Performers: Evan Garrett, Ashton Carter, Connor Trant, Elvis Valdespino, Jesse Vela

I want to say this is an amazing piece performed very well by Dr. Zator and the students in this video. It was an honor for me as the Mineola HS drum captain to premiere this piece with the other students at Mineola and I miss music a lot. Even though I am not in the music career path anymore and I am in the Army now, I still continue to exercise my love for the percussion world. Awesome piece!

You and the entire Mineola HS Percussion Ensemble were AMAZING on this piece! You guys were an absolute joy to work with and the piece wouldn't be what it is today without your work and dedication!

Amazing recording Dr. Zator. Was wondering what mallets you were using in the recording?
