Hey SD I bought your book over a year ago when i moved up from the grease rack at my local GM dealer. I have now surpassed all other techs in the shop on diag, and I used to have basically 0 electrical know how. Even my service manager goes out in the lot to scan codes/sell parts... not if I have anything to say about it. It is really satisfying to fix a multiple come back car the first time it hits my bay, or take all the hip-shot parts back to the counter and tell my manager I found a short to ground and I have no need for his parts (then he gets no commission)lol... The way you explain things really clicks with me. And I keep the book in my toolbox for ref. God bless your fam. and stay vigilant.

That's what I've been telling all of my mechanic friends! To get an Autel scanner instead of a Snap-On or a Mac. They're just making the tool truck guys rich. But because the don't listen to me, I go and charge them to do programming with my Autel. I do programming on cars all the time, and I use the Autel almost exclusively. . I've had an Autel for some time now and for a long time I assumed the Snap-On did programming too, like radio programming, key programming, module matching. And I slowly learned that it doesn't do all those things, even though it's a lot more expensive than the Autel. Although the Autel doesn't have built in connector diagrams or a scope, I feel that it does much more of the IMPORTANT stuff. Like program keys, match immobilizers, oil resets, etc. Oh, the list goes on and on. Also the Autel is Android based, while the Snap-On is Windows based. Android is much more stable. I use it as an Android tablet, with TH-cam, Skype, Chrome, etc. All of my car documents are stored there also. If they're were priced the same, I'd still go for the Autel. I feel the Snap-On does little for me. The updates are much more cheaper than the Autel. Danner, I'm glad that you finally gave the credit to the Autel that it deserves. You should have used this scanner a long time ago. The Launch is also a good scanner that does similarly what the Autel does. Great video, Thanks! PS. Kaleb looks cool with long hair.

    FYI
Uplevel in GM speak is anything above the base AM/FM radios they use in the base vehicles. So if it has a tape deck or CD it is considered uplevel.
RPO UL2 won't be in a US or Canadian sold vehicle. It is there because other countries use a different band spread for their radios and that option sets the radio to match those station settings. For instance in the UK most radio stations are even numbered so you can have station 102.2 but not a 103.3. Like most of the non-snappy scan tools that cover most of the makes in the world the Autel has the ability to deal with global vehicles in cases where that is applicable.
RPO UC6 is the 6 disc CD changer option.

Back in the day when I worked for a subsidiary of GM, you had to press and hold preset stations 2 and 3 simultaneously and wait for a four digit code. Then once getting that I believe there was a 1-800 number we had to call to get the unlock code. I think after that you just press the preset numbers corresponding to the code and it would unlock. 15:25, seeing you do that reminds me of a day I had to fish change out of a cd player in a customers car, they have kids, apparently. RPO means regular production option, I cheated and looked it up.

I want to add something to the learnums with the RPO codes. I'm sure everybody saw Paul digging in the glove box for that tag. Other places to look for that tag is in the trunk area floor, the covering for the trunk spare tire might have it on its bottom, any of the door pillars, and the bottom of the trunk lid are all places to go looking for that damn tag. It varies a lot between the different flavors of GM junk. One thing I discovered while doing an alignment, of all things, is that the tag might not exist at all anymore starting in 2018 on some models. (Maybe 2017 in some cases?) You can still get the RPO codes though. If your smart phone doesn't have a QR code reader built into the camera, get a QR code reader app installed and scan the QR code on the VIN tag. GM usually still keeps that on the driver's side B pillar. Once it decodes, it will give you the full RPO list for that vehicle.

I have a 97 Jeep G.C. bought new, I had a noise in the dash when taking off hard or stopping hard. Dealer could not find it ? Around year 2000 I had enough of this noise & when I removed the radio ( BOOM ) just like the one u have something loose around in there ? Took me about half an hour but finally a short drywall screw fell out through the tape player slot. NO IDEA HOW IT GOT IN THERE SINCE IT WAS NEW ?

Awesome video. Good to see this family vibe every so often. Great editing cameraman Caleb. But the old man's right (SD) about the man bun lol. In my opinion, there is no such thing haha. Stay safe with all the crap going on over there. Look forward to the next one.

cannot breathe without the 3M's additional N95 standoff mouth/nose cup. a lot of people don't know that one also needs eye protection, since the virus gets in there as well.

After playing scanner for so long. I would get an autel or launch over the snap on.dont get me wrong ,snap on is good for basic diagnostic, because it has built in components tests.but autel is almost close to the factory scanner,it has almost every data pid.autel can reset, reprogram and do scn coding .really good for German cars.but the downside on the autel sometimes can be little weird to read or to navigate. That is just my 2 cents.

Caleb has the 70,s 80,s look from the kung fu movies. he could do his magic in editing and dub with sound effects of crunching celery and a thin cane being swung to create the "swoosh"

I got you beat, Paul - I went 2 years on an expired sticker, lol. Then I got yanked by the fellas on a Sunday afternoon - had to get one after that, lol. Lucky for me, I forgot to plug my Range AFM disabler device back in after the test, and the monitors ended up running for the first time in 2 years! Worked out well. Saved me a $50 fine and SIX year insurance surcharge (welcome to MA ...).
Caleb only gets a pass on the man-bun, because he's your son, Paul. And we like him ... and he does a great job editing. 😁
Used to love that band - Suicidal Tendencies. I still remember that song you mentioned - I had these Pioneer truck boxes behind the seat of my S15, punching me in the back from the bass in that song, lol. I still remember the looks I'd get from adults whenever I came whipping into a parking lot just about on 2 wheels, with the windows down & radio cranking that band on TEN. I was such a punk! 😂 Heard some Scorpions, No One Like You there, too! Sweet!! Back when music was good! 🤘😬🤘 😁
