Im one of those few pepplw who loves studying. Tbh it takes a great lot of effort to START each study sessions but once i do i love it so much! It wasnt always this way, but getting the grades i study for certainly made me lovw studying
I've got mock gcses coming up in 1 week and now that Christmas is over, I've been trying to build up the motivation to study again. So this video has come at the perfect time! Thank you, and I hope you have a Happy New Year! ❤
Wow Lucy! How well you articulated all that information, in sequence of events (ie GCSE onwards), justifying why you chose your methods , and not losing your way, was/is amazing. Good luck with your 2024 goals.
hey lucy, I found your channel about a month ago and i have watched all of your videos now. you're my comfort academic youtuber. I hope you'll keep posting even after you get your degree. lots of love and a very happy new year ! ps: i love your blue sweatshirt. i have the exact same sweatshirt and it's my so so favourite i wear it almost every alternate day hehe
Lucy, have you considered becoming an actuary? My son studied math at the University of Texas in Austin and decided early on to specialize in actuarial science. He's now a senior vp at his company making near a million a year. It's an exclusive field with multiple certification tests that keep the math riff-raff out.
OMG no word of a lie my mum has EXACTLY the same rule. She has the 10% rule where you should aim for 10% above the top boundary so that if you fall, you're still safe. Thx Lucy!
tbh i never really make notes much, but what I've found to be a lot better is to get home and make notes or go over the topic then, or even do it a week after, but i always do it with some sort of resource in the first place, but i can only do it with visual or audio stuff, i think thats cause just the processing of like getting it from sound into just my own words on the page, even if it is 3 seconds after ive heard it it has been so helpful
dunno how i got through gcses with my only revision being "read the whole textbook. all the way through. in one sitting. do it again tomorrow" and "watch every single freesciencelessons video, some of them twice, and do it again next week" lmao
Happy new year Lucy I love your content Could you please make a video about how to study analysis in the first year of oxford math program and could you talk about the course named( introduction to university mathematics)
I agree! It's so frustrating for a highly intelligent person to get the same grade as someone with average intelligence just because they know a little over HALF the content. Is it okay to know 60% of the alphabet? Why is it okay for GCSE?
Questions are much harder. When I was doing A-Levels in 2020, the past papers from 10-15 years ago were so much easier and straight forward. It baffled me how people didn’t get more A*s.
Hiya! Each A-Level subject has separate grade boundaries that match the difficulty of the subject, for example Chemistry has around a 40% for a grade D. I urge you to go ahead and try and complete an Alevel exam paper, or at least google a paper from your year of exams against the previous year. The government has been increasing difficulty for exams every year to try and increase the average intellect of students, however they had not adjusted the way they examine students, meaning those who struggle with the way they are taught in classes often fail exams even if they study and have a tutor. Instead of worrying about grade boundaries, we should be altering the way we test and teach to allow a greater percentage of students to flourish in schools.
hey lucy, about this video, like you know during the whole school year(secondary), were u honestly expecting to get perfect grades through both GCSEs and A-levels? Like, for a levels and gcses both, what grades were u expecting and like what did u want to get in general or maybe for some subjects specifically if u dont mind saying
The real secret to your high grades is simply that you are smart above average. It's a gift and you make the most out of It, therefore your achivements. Keep up the good work girl!
No matter how many hours I studied, I feel that I did not study effectively and did not achieve anything. Most people on TH-cam say that I only study two hours a day, so I did not know what I should do. I am really confused in my mind. Can you give me some advice💖
I suggest doing as many topic-based questions as possible. it may be difficult at first but over time, you'll slowly grasp the concept. make sure to check the mark scheme and implement those points in your answers later on. you've got this.
I loses myself somewhere I study but I couldn't even average marks at exam I really de motivate I really work hard but after seeing result I think not be able to face anyone I dont have spirit to study anymore... 😢
What was the main resource you used to make notes? (Website, books) Also do u recommend learning the content before the lesson by making notes. My main struggle with A level biology is knowing what content I need because of the specific mark scheme so I focus a lot of time on knowing the information but I don’t have time to practice it
Will talk about it in more detail at some point but I’d say that if you’re trying to memorise a proof or a specific method then summarising into a few steps is better than writing the whole thing out
@ryusua thank you!! i've started doing an hour a day just trying to learn all the content i've forgotten 😭 well done on the 8s and 9s i hope to get results like yours!!! 💕
Have you had your mocks yet? A lot of people intensely revise for mocks so they can start revising much later before the summer of the actual thing. From what I know - if u have exams in the summer (may/june) like me then most people I know start properly revising from the easter holidays, which only gives you around a month + maybe 1-2 weeks study leave, depending on the subject, which isnt a lot but that is building up from a lot of revision from winter holidays for mocks
Do you not think private education played a part in your grades? Of course private education does not always mean perfect grades but if you were in public education you most probably would’ve had to work 10x harder to achieve the same grades because the teachers don’t care as much as those who teach in private education and leave a lot of work to the students 🤷🏻♀️
As a private schooler I think people tend to have a lot of misconceptions about it so I’d like to give my best answer to your question (although private schools vary greatly so this is very general). Private schools don’t tend to magically make children better at achieving their grades in spite of more attentive teachers and more support, rather I think that those things contribute to a smaller range of results. So essentially, rather than making it easier to gain better grades it just makes it easier to avoid failing/the lower end of the grading system. Although those two do correlate I think private schooling doesn’t necessarily make it easier at the very top end and also many students don’t benefit as greatly from private school (I myself went to a grammar school briefly and found that I preferred it in some aspects). I hope this provides some insight for you.
@@thealtaccount879 thank you for that and I probably do have a lot of misconceptions about private school but I think objectively speaking being in a place where the teachers care about what they do and are attentive in how they teach can have a very big impact. I’ve been to public school all my life and I’ve had teachers say they have better things to do than mark work, along with saying they don’t like getting asked questions that can be answered with a google search. I think it’s unfair for her to say that anyone who isn’t fully academic can get good grades because when you’re in the public sector sometimes you have to work so much harder to accomplish the basic learning of someone in private education.
@@FindmereadingSo right now I go to this private sixth form due to a full bursary but before that, i had been going to a normal state school. I notice that at the private school I go to, the teacher to student ratio is really great that in every class all the students (about 10ish) can receive the adequate help they need which is quite different from the 30+ kids in a classroom situation that the state school had. During my gcses, some teachers that I had weren’t the best and I had to teach myself some content before my exams. The teachers at this sixth form in comparison run support sessions after school and are willing to go over content again which I will admit has been super helpful. Resources for learning are incredible too as all students receive an ipad to aid their learning at the private school and there are so many other advantages that I won’t bother listing. That said, I still have to work really hard at this school, and in my opinion even harder than before to secure my grades because of the pressure of how everyone around me are securing high grades too. Therefore, I would say that regardless of whatever school you go to, private or not, securing high grades really depends on the effort a student is willing to put in. After all, I could have all the resources, help from teachers etc that I need, but if I’m not able to use them to my advantage, there’s no point. Teachers are important in helping students secure high grades however I really think it’s up to the individual.
@@Findmereading Of course. There certainly are a great deal of benefits of being in the private sector and I think the UK has a plethora of issues with the education system, with more passionate/better teachers opting for private or grammar schools. I was lucky enough to get some very passionate teachers when I went to a grammar school and in private school too which inspired my love of learning and certain subjects. I acknowledge many people don't get that opportunity so there is a restriction for them. Ultimately there are so many factors that go into why some students succeed and some don't but I would say many people watching this video are likelier to be in the former group as actively trying to improve can be the defining factor in many cases. I hope you have a good day and thank you for being so polite.
@@thealtaccount879 Thank you. This is why grade inflation is such a problem. In no universe should 60-70% be a grade 9 or an A*. In my day, that was a C.
Maybe its because the government is making the questions even harder compared to past papers and grade boundaries lower
