Right before the 1/4 mile comes an attack but he did not concede and kept Medina Spirit in front. He knew exactly what the horse was capable of. 0:30

My mother and I used to watch all three races of the Triple Crown together every year, and she always worried about large fields like this one today....more chance for collision or injury. So yes, so glad no issues today!

He was my dad's pick too. Think he got jostled coming around one of the turns.
He went running to the clubhouse turn he’ll bent for leather...he looked like he wanted to run a sprint race instead. After the clubhouse turn I lost track of him....he dropped back and that was it.

I've been watching the Derby for over 50 years and I can't remember a horse going wire to wire for the win. A mile and a quarter against 18 other horses, including the one that beat him by 4 lengths in the Santa Anita Derby, and they couldn't pass him. Medina Spirit showed great stamina and great heart.

The one thing I can't help but respect is the commentator memory skills. They have to know each horse number by heart and jockey colors on the tips of their fingers. My memory is so bad it would be a miracle if I could remember one horse name

I thought Medina Spirit was going to get gobbled up by the other three horses after leading the entire race. One of the best Derby races in a while with a fantastic finish. It's not often that four horses have an equal chance that late in the Derby. Kudos to to Medina Spirit!

He certainly would have been if circumstances were honest. I had the 2nd place finisher on top with Hot Rod and Medina Spirit and the favorite underneath. Would have been an exceptional score.
I was a thoroughbred groom years ago and that was an outstanding race, with that field, that level of stress, and yes they feel it. Medina's got heart.

I have to agree. I love it when the race breaks the way I handicap it. All over Mandaloun. I just drew a line through his last race. I thought Medina would fade late and hold for a place in the super, missed on that call, but thankfully you can box and key horses.

Neither Bob Baffert, nor the jockey won this race. The horse won it, because, as is his habit, he refuses to let anyone pass him. Anyway, it's always nice to see a longshot beat all the laboring favorites and silence all the experts.
He wouldn't have done it without the trainer and jockey. On the other hand, he would not have cared.
