With the new resurgence of hardcore can we get an updated 2024 paladin hardcore guide please! Im still confused whether to go stam/int or stam/spirit or 2h vs knightly longsword. I want to see the absolute culmination of all your data analysis. Please bless is pally time!
Hello, I think in one of your videos you were explaining that blessing of sanctuary applies its damage reduction after being reduced by armor, but one of the comments below said it wasnt the case, it was a reduction before armor. Im a bit confused about all this, but I really like your videos, it made me roll a stam / int paladin and I'm having a lot of fun with it for now.
I love leveling paladin like this. I feel tanky, the kills come quick, and I can last much longer before needing to drink. Not to mention how much more useful I am in group content.
Hi, I'm a little confused. Can you give me the tldr for whether I should be using a 1h sword and board with SoR (if I use stam/int gear do I only use the knightly longsword?) or a slow 2h weapon with SoC (3.5 speed and slower) or a fast 2h weapon with SoR (3.5 and faster). On top of this which blessing and aura as you mentioned that you should never use ret aura when using 2h yet you do exactly that in this video? Just a bit confused on what the final answers are on these questions. Love the detail. Cheers
The answer to your question is SUPER Dynamic... It depends how Things like... how out of date is Seal of Crusader? What weapon am I using? Is am I stam/int or stam/spirt? What level am I? Prior to level 34 Rank 3 SoR + JoCru with FAST 1 Hand or 2 Hand is the way. At level 34 its still the ay with 1 handers but no you can use SLOW 2 Handers with SoR5-8. So the higher Ranks. Stam/Int LOVES the Shield but can go 2 Hander as well. I was leveling with Stam/Int 2 Hander Prior to level 40 when I swapped to test Spirt Gear. Why? Knightly was getting quite out of Date at level 37+, there were no go fast 1 Handers, and JoCru didn't get a new rank tell level 42. I checked the AH, saw Cheep Fast / Slow 2 Handers and went with it. The answer here is that Stam/Int and Stam/Spirt are SO FLEXABLE that AH prices or what you find on the AH will usually dictate you actions. For HARD CORE, I suggest you stick with Shield. For non-Hardcore or more experienced players 2 Hander is the way but with a shield for backup. The Ret Aura I am using in both my low level HC vids and level 40 Vids is because my Stam/Spirt Gear is regening SO MUCH MANA... I have to find every way I can to convert Mana into DAMAGE... and so needing to heal a bit more for more damage is fine by me. Stam/Int would be a different story. The undead mobs I am fighting also attack REALLY fast... like cat speed fast. So Ret aura it is. TLDR = I tell you guys what to do generally, but then autistically optimize it when I am doing it actively. Hardcore level 20-30 is was using 2hander with Ret Aura for 3 Reasons... 1. Stam / Spirt gear 2. Swords were +9 and +10 Defense Rating 3. Armor Aura was out of Date... Ret was Recently Trained. I am level 30 Now, looking to use some 2 Handed Polearm I got with a 2.3 Speed Cheep on AH. Armor Aura Recently Trained. I will likely use Armor Aura for HC in my recent vids. But really its the Stam/Spirt that is making me go Ret Aura with a 2 Hander. As Stam/Int I usually go Armor. 2 Hander Armor with Knightly and Shield for Back-up. At level 42, when I get a new rank of Crusader... will ret-test Sword and Board to see if its worth over 2 Hander. Mind you, 42 is AoE and Flurry Axe Time which is completely different. At 42 you have to decide AoE or Single Target. One will got Stam/Int + Sword and Board... the other will go Stam/Spirt +2Hander.
@@pallytime2156 Hey mate, really appreciate the in-depth reply. I'm currently using mostly spirit/stam/int gear as HC SSF. Why is it after 34 you can use a slow 2h? I was under the assumption that in HC slow weapons in general were a trap? If i had the option of looking for a fast 2h vs a slow 2h would I pick the fast over the slow if it decently less damage? Also just quickly, what is the main decider when judging crusader vs light? At 31 my crusader is only increasing my SoR by a few damage compared to the comparatively high heals I get from having JoL on the target. In general when would you judge crusader vs light? Also, if you choose to go single target at 42, do you go fully into the holy tree to grab holyshock? Might have missed some of this in your vides. Going to rewatch. But yeah i'm getting that what weapon to use is very dynamic and I should be testing. Also just finally, when is it worth using SoR rank 3 vs SoR max rank ? Like is there a breakpoint where you need a certain amount of +spell power to make the scaling work as the difference at 31 is minimal and seems a lot more efficient to judge light and use max rank SoR? Appreciate all the help!
I just uploaded a HC video that covers most of these questions in detail after my DC scare. There are to many variables to list of why X over Y but I will try... 1. How Recent where seals Trained? 2. How fast are you killing mobs? 3. How slow or Fast is your weapon? 4. 1 Hander of 2 Hander? 5. Lag or no lag? 6. How much damage are you taking? 7. AoE or single Target? Single Target has a number of different Rotations depending... 1. Kill one mob with Seal of Crusader... then Judge Crusader into next mob and kill it with SoR... Rinse and Repeat. 2. Judge Crusader + SoR to kill mob... everytime. 3. Double Seal of Light 2 Hander (no joke) 4. No Crusader at all... just Max Rank SoR at all times. This last one is if you are killing mobs to quickly for JoCru to be worth it and are using the slower 2 handed weapons. At level 34 you get SoR5.. and at certain SLOW 2 Hander Speeds it does better damage both with JoCru and just by itself. There is also a 5th rotation which is Judge Light then use Crusader with Might. Most of these strange... less damage but more mana efficient rotations are using BoM over BoW and Ret Aura. Varies with how recently skills were trained. If you can't exorcism Consecration gets fed into the line. Later its Wrath at level 44 for single target. I have a video showing Stam/Spirt Holy Shock if you want to check that out. New Rank of Crusader at level 32... so life looks wird at 30 and 31. I was was jammin on double Light with Ret aura, 2 hander and Might. Double light, or JoL+Crusader looking really promising as it opens up slower weapon combos both 1 hander and 2 hander earlier for Hard Core. My SSF advice is go learn about the Dark Moon Fair... no joke best way to level and gear for sure me thinks. @@SleezyZol

Question for you because I started my hardcore attempt on pally just this week. Why are so many other recommendations/guides suggesting Ret for leveling? Is it for ease of use? Feels like some of the stuff you talk about would be talked about more when suggestions for leveling specs are being made.
2 Reasons... 1. They haven't tested any other builds... 2. Its not a bad build. Str/Stam Ret has = Leveling speeds to Stam/Int/Spirt... But ret DIES FAR easier. Like... DISGUSTINGLY so... and the MOMENT you get Wrath or find something to Excorism on... its an inferior build speed wise. I am uploading a HC vid... episode 7... you can see what it looks like to level as Stam/Spirt for comparision.
At lvl 30 in holy tree u get devine favor wich basicly makes u unkillable in hardcore. Sure u lose some dps but not much at all. After lvl 30 u can go prot wich makes u even more afk ;)
You don’t need to put scuffed version in the title. It’s the standard. Love your videos though. What talent build would you suggest for pure questing/one off dungeons to hit 60? I’d like to be able to tank or heal as needed
I'm still a little new to Paladin. I've been learning a lot from your videos. Really good stuff. If I could contribute my knowledge to the knowledge pool; Sometimes you're wasting a ton of mana on overheals when you heal from 3/4 health or so. Downrank those. Overhealing is the enemy of mana management. What you really want to aim for is to keep your health and mana bars the same size, unless you're getting too low, then shoot for full health. I uploaded a video yesterday that shows how I heal in combat when the mobs are 2-4 levels above me. It's slow-weapon Ret, though, and I'm 5 points into Holy now. Eagle, Gorilla, Bear, Whale. Things die fast enough when they're closer to my level. th-cam.com/video/yG6ceEauD7U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HoboVGC04vrhsk7F I'm trying YOUR build on a different character and loving it so far.
Pally noob here and I just hit lvl 50 on my pally and just saw I could train Holy wrath (2 sec cast aoe for undead/demons). With all the talk of converting mana into damage, why hasn't it been brought up? Is it dog crap or just kinda overlooked?

Your guide ia confusing. U show us a video of u using the AOE build with a two hander but then u show talents that use one hander specialization in the prot tree as well and shield talents???
Yes. 11/X/0 is usually the best build. 11 Points in Holy to get Heal in Combat and Consecration... then you into prot for +3% Hit... Redout and all the other good things in there. 2 Hander is when you are 1v1 in open world. Shield is usually when its 1v2 or 1v3 or worse. +25% armor on devo aura is HORRIBLE so most 2 hander Paladins take Redout even on on-hardcore servers. Basically sometimes your are FORCED to fight 1v3 for your life... its inevitable. Shield + Fast 1 Hander and JoL + SoL = no real way to for you do die. Redout is saves lives basically. JoL and SoL with Knightly Longsword will EASILY heal you for more then 1 mob can do in damage. Redout = Meh vs 1 Mob... but vs 3 Mobs it negates about 1 mob worth of damage. You combine the two and you can turn a 1v3 into a 1v1. Try it out and you will see what I mean.
Thank you Pally for doing these videos even though you are sick, we appreciate it !
