    Measurements from the motors:
    QS165v1:
    Armature: 114mm x 35mm, 55 strands of 24 awg, wired WYE, flat magnets, magnet gauss: 1500 to 1400, stator weight: 3.57kg, armature weight: 2.02kg, phase resistance: 13.25 mOhms, phase inductance: 146 uH
    QS165v2:
    Armature: 99mm x 35mm, 40 strands of 24 awg, wired WYE (see note), V magnets, magnet gauss: 1500 to 3700, stator weight: 4.29kg, armature weight: 2.23kg, phase resistance: 9.01 mOhms, phase inductance: 131 uH
    Note: The V2 motor appears to have 2 sets of WYE windings in parallel, NOT delta like I say in the video. IF this is the case then the V2 effectively has 80 strands in parallel. This would explain the dual bundles for dual WYE winds on the same stator. The 2 sets of starts are 180 degrees apart from each other so this is likely to be how this motor is wound. bEMF ought to be interesting!

      Can you give a figure for the bEMF voltage at a given rpm? Maybe turn the shaft with an electric drill and measure between 2 phases with a true RMS multimeter? Thanks and keep up the good work!! *subscribed*

      @@johgude5045 I have an o-scope. I've done this with a bunch of motors already. I was more interested in how clean the bEMF was than the voltage. Some motors are pretty bad and others are clean sinusoids.

    The slope/angle of the stator teeth/laminations can reduce cogging torque and make the motor a bit smoother.

    • @de-bodgery
      @de-bodgery  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The V1 has straight stator teeth and turns without cogging at all. The V2 has sloped teeth and cogs a fair bit. I have to wonder how much it would cog if the stator teeth were straight.

      LOL! I'm in the USA. We are dual standards here! It's confusing as hell! I go back and forth between metric and SAE all the time! First few takes of this video, I was doing the weights in pounds and thought "This is dumb! I'm doing everything else in metric. Why am I using pounds for the weight?". So I switched the scale to metric and remade the video all metric.

    Interesting video!! When your taking the caps off each end do the bearings have to be pressed out or are they a loose fit on the bearing outer races?

    • @de-bodgery
      @de-bodgery  ปีที่แล้ว

      The caps come off the bearings pretty easily. Just pull straight off and they will probably slide out of the end caps. Get the bearing wracked a tiny bit and they bind up.

    i want to say V2 is better but the design has quite a few tradeoffs compared to V1 - thanks for this comparison

    for the qs motor, you should reprocess the connector to avoid phase loss when operating, it is cos pressed while the outer layer of paint is not high enough.

      it is best to solder it before putting it in the connector and hydraulic press, to avoid phase loss due to bad contact causing engine fire.

      Can't say without taking the windings off and I'm not doing that at least not for now. I want to do some efficicny tests. Later maybe, I'd like to rewind the V2. I've wound motors, I think I can make it better than the factory wind!
