I'm loving these build videos. All your builds are really interesting and trying them out or taking parts to put into my own builds has been super fun. I love the early days of a big release like this as everyone just discusses the game and what they find.
Balduran's Giantslayer which doubles the damage from your strength modifier stacks with Pact of The Blade. So an elixir of cloud giant strength gives you a pretty decent omph.
I went with a similar build for Wyll in my first playthrough, but more oriented as a support character: Warlock 5 (The Fiend) \ Paladin 7 (Oath of the Ancients), sword and shield. He could heal, bless, tank, smite and throw a fireball when needed 😊
I'm in act 2 and can't bring myself to do it on my first playthrough. I did respec Shadowheart to tempest cleric though because trickery domain is just kind of bad.
I mean there's no reason multiclassing a Paladin can't be thematic. Especially a Vengence Paladin or Oathbreaker. Fighter is just easy to justify for any adventurer. And a Venegnce Paladin might make a pact (especially in this game) because they need the extra boost to exact venegence on powerful evil beings. And an Oathbreaker? Also pretty easy. If you're an Oath of devotion Paladin it is a bit harder to justify multiclassing (except for into fighter), better to start as something else and go into Paladin later.
"5 levels of Paladin, 5 levels of Warlock and 2 levels of Action Surge". Obviously action surge is not a class but this had me rolling since so many freaken builds do a 2 level dip into fighter just for action surge that it might as well be called a the class "Action Surge" and it only has level 1 and 2.
I tried out sort of variation of this build on my 2nd playthrough and man this is a banger. I only had some difficulties with Raphael since well you can't hit him with divine energy, but other than that I had a blast
Hey I was super nervous about build I never played dnd and in one of your videos you said just make whatever you feel like don’t worry about making a mistake you said you’ll be fine just have fun thanks a lot
Pretty much the build I'm going for with my Dark Urge character in my 2nd playthrough. I would additionally recommend the 18 Dex gloves you can get at the end of Act I. Those allow you to dump dex entirely for even more Con, give you a very good initiative to almost always be among the first to move and it might even be enough to do some lock picking or trap disarming. Also the Great Weapon Master feat is a good 2nd choice after pushing CHA to 20, allowing you to push out even more damage without having to use a smite.
Haha I played pretty much this exact build for by first run. It is so insanely strong I was one round killing end game bosses with it. I leveled 1 Fighter, 5 Warlock, 1 fighter and then went the rest of the way Paladin. I hadn’t really planned to go into Paladin but it felt right and I really wanted smite. Got my third attack late that way but I hit level 12 with most of the third act left and you’re still really strong without the third attack. Especially with Gale or Jahera around to haste you.
I’m doin this build as my mc atm. Went with warlock first simply to avoid the respec issue with paladins. Respec to pal2/loc5 at lvl 7 and then keep on trucking with paladin.
This build definitely convinced me that multiclassing is way too easy and powerful in 5e, and in BG3 specifically. At least it's fun for optimisers to tinker with.
multiclassing is half the fun of this system imo. There is hardly any choices within single classes especially futher on outside of your exact spell kit.
Ah yes, two levels of action surge, my favorite class lol. All joking aside this is literally how i built my Wyll, although i didnt know about extra attack and the pact extra attack stacking
Nice build, I am playing something similar in my evil Durge run, though I picked Oathbreaker and Warlock for my in-head RP reasons lol I noticed multiclassing and spell casting is really helpful to plug a lot of the gaps you create going full evil
If they do patch the extra attack bug, I think vengeance pal8/wl4 is a really good option as well. Gets you an extra feat, you could do ASI/GWF/PAM. Pole arm master synergizses perfectly with the vengeance relentless avenger skill, which would improve mobility and damage output. Action surge is great but only one turn per combat, the auras and extra feat may be worth dropping fighter. Could also do 9/3 if you want access to haste but you lose a feat, better to just use the bow that has haste on it. Aura of protection will make it very hard for you to miss concentration saving throw.
This has less to do with this video directly. Your top videos are all now BG3. There's a lot of ways to take that. I like to think it means you've created a great community that people enjoy being a part of. Thanks for the paladin build. Onward to 300k. All glory to the Algorithm.
4 of my top 10 videos are BG3, but generally I think it's just because I specialize in covering that genre and have tons of videos on every BG game so I managed to bring a lot of like minded people to the same place on that front.
Have you thought about taking polearm mastery and sentinel as your two feats? A lot of people have been talking about how strong this can be. Essentially you take devil’s sight and cast darkness around yourself and a bunch of enemies. The polearm mastery allows you to have a bonus attack that can trigger yet another divine smite. Sentinel forces enemies to stay in melee range and inside the darkness spell. You would have to live with 18 Cha instead of 20 but trade off could be worth it? I don’t know how many good polearm weapons are in game though. Appreciate your input!!
i'm rping as my super edgelord durge oathbreaker warlock, the potb stacking with extra atk was such an insane discovery and aura of hate on pala 7 is pretty ok i guess, less multiclass hassle
I used a similar build (paladin 7/warlock 5) on wyll for my whole first playthrough and it was very strong, although i did find myself often out of spell slots since i was long resting relatively infrequently
I my second playthrough I did something similar but with Minthara. I was trying like team from Hell party so all party members need to have at least 2 level in Warlock. One of them was Minthara and she was Paladin level 8/Warlock level 4 (Did not know about that extra attack stuck from Paladin and Warlock). I picked two ASI for 20 Cha and Polearm Master feat. And I give all party members Agonizing Blast and Devil's Sight. And all party members stay in Spell Darkness. Shot enemies with Eldritch Blast from Darkness and if they come in, they are Blind and also provoke attack of opportunity buy coming in reach because of Polearm Master. It was hilarious! Range enemies most of the time just waste they turn because they don’t see me (us) and don’t know what to do. Melee who are brave enough to come in to Darkness well…
Now in my fourth playthrough my main is Bard level 8/Paladin level 2/Fighter level 2. Was inspired by your Cleric Build - Terror Of Tiamat video. Shield + Rapier or Shortsword and Armour of Agility ACT 3 (or Yuan-Ti Scale Mail ACT 2). Stars are: 8 Str, 20 Dex, 14 Con, 8 Int, 12 Wis and 16 Cha. And go with Thunder Smite + Devine Smite Combo. Also pick college of swords because Defensive Flourish for second attack +1d6 extra damage and +4 AC.
I recommend the diadem of arcane synergy and other similar gishing items for early on. getting your spellcasting mod to your damage again is pretty great. might actually be better than the +2 charisma even, despite not getting the +1 to dc
Not sure if i want to start my first playthrough as a Lightning Sorcerer or Paladin. Thematically i love the idea of a lightning focused build, with flashy aoe attacks. I also like the theme of a front line melee Paladin that can take a hit, do good damage and provide support in the form of heals and aoe buffs. Charisma is also quite important for me due to the dialogue options. I am welcome to any thoughts on this.
Love the content! Thanks so much for your work. Not sure how hard this would be to do well with copyright stuff.. but would love to see a video on best boss fight soundtracks. I am currently totally in love with Raphael's from BG3.
Interesting bit of theorycrafting. I presume if we're not using the doubled extra attack on presumption it will be hit with Ye Ole Nerf Bat, we'd only take Warlock to lvl 4 (As you still want the ASI.) But we need Pally 5 either way, so taking fighter to 4 for a 3rd feat isn't a possibility. So Pally6/Lock 4/Fighter 2? To my mind we get more from leaning Pally than Warlock, since this is a melee-centric character.
6/4/2 would work if you just really want that extra ASI, but we aren't really using it much here, so I like 7/3/2 personally just for the extra paladin feature, but either would be fine
Great video! Do you have any intention of doing a bard build or talking about how to play as a bard? The RP/dialogue/face options of a bard seem so fun to play with, especially in co op, but it would be amazing to have some guidance as to how to make them relevant in combat at tactician.
Wouldn't going 5Fiend/7Oathbreaker not be more beneficial, if you get 2 extra attack from pact the blade stacking and extra attack from paladin. Then Aura of hate at lvl 7 if you're going charisma based for 4-5 extra damage aura?
yeah you can do that so you are not weak early before you get the pact weapon from warlock 3. So the spread would be like max STR, max CHR, max CON, dump everything else I guess
It's silly they haven't fixed this yet. One of the big selling points of Fighter is that you get a third attack at level 11. It's one of the only real reasons to take fighter past 2 or 3. Any martial dipping warlock getting it a level earlier is just wrong. Bard/Lock getting it at the same level is absurd.
Hi! If they nerf the warlock +1 atk skill, i have alternatives, like paladin6, warlock3, fighter2, war cleric1 for the extra melee attack action. In taht case i could start with cleric bc i like the guidance and heavy armor prof. What do you thinks?
If going Oathbreaker you really want paladin7, or ancients for that matter. (which are the two best for this build imo.) Its the biggest subclass feature, and worth more then war cleric. Honestly, if they end up patching extra attack I would go paladin 9, war 3 for third level spell slots and big smites. But paladin 7, war 3, fighter 2 would be how I would do it if you want fighter.
I don't know if anyone knows this. But if you start paladin then warlock, do you have to finish all of your paladin Spell slots before you can use Warlock spell slots? And if so, would that be remedied by main classing warlock, and off classing pally?
Can anyone help me? My game has bugged and I can't fast travel. When I try to travel, the game gives me a error. It says one of your characters can't travel.
Try Barbarian 9, Rogue 3 Thief ^^ Extremely menacing melee build that way with GWM, 24 Strength (hag hair, mirror, potion, 1 ASI) and lots of mobility and ease of use thanks to the 2 bonus actions! Rage, jump into your enemies face, slam... Or use frenzied strike AND the GWM bonus attack in one turn for 4 attacks total along with fat brutal crits! I personally went barb 8 rogue 4 and got tavern brawler instead for throwing people around lmao
Is there any different between using smites, sneak attack and similar effects manually, using them as a reaction without asking or having the game ask every time? Can you like, pick to use your reaction on the hit that crits if any or something like that?
I honestly just set everything to "ask" and there's an option to have it automatically apply only when you crit. For simple characters that don't have very many reactions like barbarian or non-Eldritch Knight fighters, there's generally no downside to just having their reactions be automatic. But for spell casters, you're very likely going to want be able to choose which reaction to use because you don't want your wizard to waste their reaction on an opportunity attack they're likely going to miss or do almost no damage on when they can use Shield to get +5 AC or use Counterspell. For Smites and Sneak Attack, "ask" is likely better because if you can kill an enemy without the extra damage, there's no need to waste a spell slot or the sneak attack proc (because you can use it on a different attack that turn instead).
Hi! Question. This is sort of the build that I wanted but what would you recommend I do if I’m aiming for Bard instead of Paladin? I’m struggling with how to level, itemize etc in planning this. Thanks!
does the axtra attack for the warlock come only when using the weapon you summon, or can you use any weapon? or how do you bind the weapon you already use?
@@MortismalGaming great thank you! The only problem for me is that I did choose the strength point from auntie. So can you tell me the best way to reach 20 charisma?
Hey. Do you realise though, that the Soulbreaker Greatsword isn't as fantastic if you're not Githianki (you lose the 1-4 psychic damage)... Though it's still quite strong.
1-4 damage is nothing to this build, and the weapon ability it grants also called soulbreaker that can stun an enemy is vastful more useful, but yes I am aware.
It doesn't work as well on Honour Mode where they added the stricter rules and thus the attacks don't stack fully, but otherwise it still works as presented here.
Not a quest per se, in the fight with the Hag in Act 1 if you get her to low health without killing her she'll offer you a deal, her life for a +1 ASI item called Hag Hair
1:44: I like how he said 5 levels of warlock, 5 levels of paladin and 2 levels of Action Surge. We all know why he dipped fighter.
@@defaultweeb3389Probably people who have never played the tabletop. Action Surge is accurately as broken as it is in normal D&D.

if/when they patch out the extra attack stacking, 6pal/4lock/2fight might be your best bet for the extra feat and still get aura of protection

Could you add cleric-war priest to attack as a bonus action as well?
Not without losing something important here
Gronk!

Hey mate, i would go with College of the Swords 7 (for spells and extra attack at 6) / Warlock 5
does the axtra attack for the warlock come only when using the weapon you summon, or can you use any weapon? or how do you bind the weapon you already use?
any pact weapon, either summoned or bound. There is an action that does either or for you
Does it still work? I mean the 5 levels of warlock
Yes
@@MortismalGaming great thank you! The only problem for me is that I did choose the strength point from auntie. So can you tell me the best way to reach 20 charisma?
Where do you get the art for your Build videos?
wallpaper websites/offical DnD art usually, this one is official art for BG1 for instance.
2 levels of action surge! Lol! Poor Fighter. Doesn't even get named.
is this an oathbreaker build?
Did this get patched
It doesn't work as well on Honour Mode where they added the stricter rules and thus the attacks don't stack fully, but otherwise it still works as presented here.
what is the name of the quest that gives you +1 charisma ?? oO
Not a quest per se, in the fight with the Hag in Act 1 if you get her to low health without killing her she'll offer you a deal, her life for a +1 ASI item called Hag Hair
free comment.
Anyone playing this with a 1070 card? I need advice on how to make the game more bearable, not so choppy and glitchy.
"2 levels of action surge" eh? I know fighters are boring and vanilla, but that's rough.
But it is correct.
@@MortismalGaming You speak truth, but it still hurts. :(
I have 3ish more days, then I'll be playing Starfield for the rest of my life
lol 2 levels of action surge
