Pickle-Serious I drive one daily and at first I didn't like it, but it slowly grows on you! I always thought the lights on the back were really nice though, it's the front that's a bit strange
I love my Leaf, I've had it for six months now. It's the quietest, smoothest, most relaxing car I've ever had. I drove a friends Lexus Is the other day and it felt like a tractor compared to the Leaf
Just bought this car used via CarMax for $8000 & 35K miles. It's a nice second car for to & from work driving. Do not recommend it for highway / freeway driving. You get the best milage on the street / stop & go traffic. Perfect for driving about town.
Has the top speed on the leaf improved since the 2012 model? I live in Houston and I usually do between 75-80 mph on the freeway. I really want this car.
+Ethan Davenport Make sure you check the battery wear though. Since Nissan didn't have liquid battery heating and cooling and 40% over provisioning like the Volt, a lot of the batteries ended up degrading faster.
I currently drive a used Nissan Leaf that cost me about $7,500 dollars. I don't think that I could have gotten a car for a better value. The rang varies between 60 and 80 miles per charge.
2:45 No, Brian, that's the battery temperature. Also, at 3:56, that brings up one of the things of what I'm frustrated with the LEAF. There are some videos on TH-cam and LEAF drivers on forums that show and insist that the car can do 0-60mph in less than 8 seconds, while Nissan quotes over 11 seconds. No one can or bothers to get an actual 0-60 test. I have GT5, I rarely play it, and the LEAF disappointed me there since the acceleration was more than 11 seconds despite great torque numbers.
im guessing you are saying Top Gear America, because the original is an amazing show, but seriously Cooley is a very VERY good host for this show.- Wouldn't be surprise if he gets hired by some TV show.-
The 2013 Leaf(Tennessee) is supposed to charge twice fast as the 2012 model(Japan) at home. 30A home charging instead of 16A charging. I drove the Ford Focus Electric a couple days ago. It was just as nice as the Leaf and charges twice as fast in your garage.
Look up the 0-60 acceleration on TH-cam.. The Leaf is not a performance car like the Tesla.. It's an economy car, I admit though, 0-30mph is quick an may be harder to beat because of that instant torque in the electric motor, not the power in the battery.
Leaf's are actually fast. Most EV's are. This is because they have soooooo much torque and it all gets put down from 1 RPM instead of having to wait until 6000. The Spark EV is a tiny hatchback with 130 horsepower but FOUR HUNDRED lb ft of torque. Have fun keeping up with one of those.
I know the Leaf isn't a performance car and neither is the Tesla model s. They're both refined but with the Tesla you get bigger, tires, brakes, and more premium edge but you pay for it in the price. How ever, you can opt out for s sport model that will put you past 100,000$ . The Leaf is not as premium but its really quiet, comfortable, quick, and premium in its class, and you pay less than 30k $ after government and state incentives which makes it more valuable.
When gas was nearly $4 the lease on these was a steal. You basically got a drive a new car that was silent and required no maintenance out of pocket for FREE. Well, Free = the cost of just gasoline to drive a small to midsize car where you either had a payment or were on the hook for out of warranty repairs/maintenance. Resale value is really bad on these cars because you can not DIY things. It makes great sense as a lease though.
Watching on 21 December 2022 from India 🇮🇳, ✌️ Tata motors has launched Tiago ev in 2022 with similar specifications for $10,000 dollar 💰 or ₹8,50,000 rupees with cruise control, 200 km range
Perhaps the one thing other than looks that drive people away from this car is the range of the car. Perhaps with a 40Kwh or bigger battery for a good 140 mile range minimum it'll gain many more converts.
I would LOVE to go electric but I live in a cold climate and getting to and from work is 80 miles. Witht he cost of electricity here and the fact that in 10 years I may very well need to drop another $8K just to keep the car? I could buy a Versa for a few grand more and never have to worry about the inevitable 8K battery change, or the range dropping to 50 miles when the temps hit -10. We are getting closer - but this car is no good unless you live in a major city with cheap electricity.
If I could get an electric car (even base) for 25k and under I would probably buy one as long as it had a range of 60+ miles on a charge. I could go from work and back and save alot.
I mean without getting those rebates. Going out the door paying under $25k. Or giving the rebates as instant just as normal cars. If i could get say a focus electric base out the door for like 24k and never have to put gas into it, I would jump all over it.
camshaft53149 I have done extensive research into these EV's. Overall the best electric only is the Leaf. The Volt is good but only if you can afford a bigger monthly. The Leaf seems to me to be the best overall value dollar for dollar...especially since I have heard that they are making great lease deals to get them to move faster.
Cesar Torres I do agree with you on that. I would rather have the focus (since i am a huge ford fan) and love the focus. They really don't advertise many leases for these vehicles unfortunately. The Volt would only have me interested if you could buy one for under 20k or lease for under $200 a month with no down payment. A leaf wouldn't be bad if I had to put $0 down and get 50 miles in negative temperatures thanks to living in the arctic wonderland of WI.
camshaft53149 I just bought my leaf for 16,700. traded in my cobalt for 4,500. my payments with my interest are 202 dollars a month. my car insurance went up 18 bucks a month for full coverage. I just spent 10 hours charging my car from almost dead (really shouldn't do that), and now it has about 80+ mile range. I bought the car used so no tax insentive. but I do get the remainder of the manufacture warrenty. I will find out how it does in the winter in 6 months.... ohio roads and all.
Maintenance? What maintenance? Seems to me that there is nothing that a user CAN maintain on this car - just replace if it goes kaput ..? Fill me in? No plugs, no oil, no trans fluid... You still have tires I suppose...
Electric cars are fast because theres infinite power within the battery. Tesla model S which is a full electric vehicle is faster than the dodge viper.
Mark my words. As soon as fuel cell tech becomes mainstream Nissan will own the car market. They, together with Panasonic have begun a new frontier for the automotive industry. P.S. I drive a toyota.
Great idea - but laptop batteries DIE after a handful of years. Whats Nissan going to do for me when my Batteries are only charging half way in 5 years? Sell me new ones for... $20K? I don't think so.
7 years later: you kinda guessed it. A guy got charged 30,000€ for new batteries here in Portugal. They promised him a lower cost when he bought the car, though, so he decided to sue Nissan.
To people in America,Who buys these ECO cars with expensive price stickers & a low range battery ? maintenance of these cars are a nightmare too, i rather have a basic yaris over this
Bahh I think Telsa has the right Idea with electric cars. The Tesla S is a BEAUTIFUL Car..period. It happens to also be an electric car I look forward to buying one when its in the 40 - 50k range
Am I the only one who likes the design of this car?
Pickle-Serious yes
I'm sure some people like it!
Pickle-Serious I like it's design, it doesn't look like anything else on the road.
Pickle-Serious Well, I don't *dislike* it. It's a perfectly fine-looking car.
I was able to buy a used 2015 Nissan Leaf for $7,000 back in 2017. Don't think I could have gotten a better deal on an Electric Vehicle!
Just bought this car used via CarMax for $8000 & 35K miles. It's a nice second car for to & from work driving. Do not recommend it for highway / freeway driving. You get the best milage on the street / stop & go traffic. Perfect for driving about town.
As a Leaf owner, I agree.
I was also looking at one on Carvana that's used for around 6,500. Can you guys tell me why it's not good for highways and freeways?
@@jjjlove2260 yea I wanna know too, I'm looking at this for my first car
Today with gas at $4.50 in Massachusetts I want one .
Have a 2012 Leaf and love it. Everything in this video is accurate.
Has the top speed on the leaf improved since the 2012 model? I live in Houston and I usually do between 75-80 mph on the freeway. I really want this car.
Another excellent review. Keep them coming, thanks.
Thank You for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ✌ ☮ ❤
I've seen 2011 models on craigslist for as low as $10,000, and that's for sale by dealer.
+Ethan Davenport Make sure you check the battery wear though. Since Nissan didn't have liquid battery heating and cooling and 40% over provisioning like the Volt, a lot of the batteries ended up degrading faster.
I'd buy one for that price.
yikes
I purchase a used Leaf for $7,500 dollars.
Now they’re 4k
I currently drive a used Nissan Leaf that cost me about $7,500 dollars. I don't think that I could have gotten a car for a better value. The rang varies between 60 and 80 miles per charge.
You can also purchase a used Leaf for less than 8 Grand.
2:45 No, Brian, that's the battery temperature. Also, at 3:56, that brings up one of the things of what I'm frustrated with the LEAF. Just drove behind one today, had a hard time keeping up. These things are pretty fast.
Yessss more car tech vids! The more the marrier
I'm just afriad of running about of power then I'm just stuck somewhere and have to wait 7 hrs to charge it. Another great review Brian!
yeah, it looks like a giant ant :P
I forgot how animated this guy was a decade plus ago. 😂
Same here. He's the only reviewer worth watching.
im guessing you are saying Top Gear America, because the original is an amazing show, but seriously Cooley is a very VERY good host for this show.- Wouldn't be surprise if he gets hired by some TV show.-
I heard that certain models of the Nissan Leaf have obsolete batteries, is the 2012 leaf model one of them?
I HAVE A ASSIGNMENT DUE TOMORROW ;)
What maintenance? It's only got about 5 moving parts.
How long does the batteries last? Are they expensive to buy?
There’s one for sale near me under $7000 but that charge time is archaic. Tesla’s will charge at 2-3x that speed.

I live in Texas an drive on the stretch of highway that is 85mph+ and i love going 100mph
anything over 70 on the leaf really kills the range on the leaf
instant torque make it go as fast as it can the second you hit 1 RPM.
I'm thinking about getting one of these that I saw in my used car dealership but thank you for the video
Just need bigger battery capacity. I just got this car & I like it😊
I starting to learn a lot more about cars just because I like Brain Cooley and he only does car review now.
Carwings what the hell is that 😂😂😂😂
They're wings... for your car. :)
The Aroused Eunuch it’s the first commercially available flying car
I know the Leaf isn't a performance car and neither is the Tesla model s. They're both refined but with the Tesla you get bigger, tires, brakes, and more premium edge but you pay for it in the price. Wow, has more range than Mazda's new electric car in 2022
Thanks for the comment. I really want one!
Cooley u r tha dude!!
lol, Audi Logo gone nuts, he said it again. hahaha

Better than Top Gear dare I say!

now we have to wait till next week for another car tech video, why cnet ???
@Tangleloor I have this car and my dealer said the batteries are under warranty for10 years and a new battery pack is $8000
how many version of leaf are?
I think the leaf is good because it looks like a NORMAL car
Perhaps the one thing other than looks that drive people away from this car is the range of the car. Perhaps with a 40Kwh or bigger battery for a good 140 mile range minimum it'll gain many more converts.
Lol @ 2:54 on the left is the battery temperature not the charge....
On the left of the instruments is the battery temperature
Yes, you can get black cloth or leather.
didn't they already review it??
LOL@ Audi logo goes nuts!
Ahh I love my 85 mile speed limit!
Hope that happens I really do but I would be shocked if Top Gear did that, Cooley is kinda diffrent than them in the way he reviews cars
Check out the reply by @Robbie1635, a new pack is $8K and the originals are under warranty for 10 years.
wonder when we will begin to see a parity with gas/electric cars, based on price.
I don't get his obsession with HD radio
+king julian IT provides XM quality radio (digital) without the monthly cost
.
ok me either
Yeah he is different, thats his thing.-

Yeah. Sorry 2012 Cooley. Thank amazon and eBay and mod sites. Now LED is no longer a rarity 💩

Image u had this car during Hurricane Sandy
that will suck
I see a lot!! Of electric cars on a daily basis. I live near Atlanta ( suburbs). I think their neat.
COOOLEYYYY!
6:22 The 2013 Leaf was reduced to $28,800 MSRP if anyone cares.
o_o I'll.. keep my 2012 Mustang GT thanks o_o i'm getting between 7-8 litres per 100.
This would be a perfect 2nd car if you have to commute and do something like über
If I could get an electric car (even base) for 25k and under I would probably buy one as long as it had a range of 60+ miles on a charge. I could go from work and back and save alot.

anyone notice at the end how he doesn't turn into his own lane and kinda just drives in the middle of two? PICK ONE LANE BUDDY.
Forgot about when they used to honestly present EV information 😮
He's reviewed the Leaf 3 times, can't the manufacturers send something different?
Maintenance? What maintenance? Seems to me that there is nothing that a user CAN maintain on this car - just replace if it goes kaput ..? Fill me in? No plugs, no oil, no trans fluid... You still have tires I suppose...
The only video i watch on the cnnet channel is car tech and it has to be cooley!

This thing is faster than the BRZ/86 in terms of 0-60...
A toad that fuels for $0.70 per gallon compared to gasoline. 5 times cheaper.

Looking at the details of other EV's, you really gain an appreciation of how groundbreaking, innovative and uncompromising Tesla truly is.
I did 95 hehe
Nissan Leaf < Chevy Volt < Tesla Model S
hi mom
Look up the Tesla Model S.
so expensive
Nissan vs Tesla, Toyota, etc
Old video =|
wtf is HD radio !!!!
As the name says: high definition radio. It has better quality, I guess.
wingdings
are*
...
Never!!! Lol
hhhhhhhhhh I live in saudi arabia, I have charger srt8
gaz cost me 15$ full
That's great. Gas here in Portugal is more expensive, though. Around 65/70€ for a full tank on a small hatchback.
if its not a ford, just fucking hate on em cooley :3 haha jk my opinion xD
LAST
3 words. Tesla Model S.
I DONT LIK THE THE SIEIN AT ALL.
Bahh I think Telsa has the right Idea with electric cars. The Tesla S is a BEAUTIFUL Car..period. It happens to also be an electric car I look forward to buying one when its in the 40 - 50k range
One Question. Why make it soooo Ugly ? Seriously, cant you just make a better design, that looks more like a car and less like a messed up igloo.
