Few years ago I cut the noodles to fit under my seats in my canoe tied together with duck tape, better than 30-40 bucks for blow up bags and put noodle on the front support and lay rods on it so it doesn't make Sharpe sounds when It may roll around when I reach for something. Tks for the pointers
PVC stand up rod rack fits my receiver hitch. Holds 4 rods vertically. Slip it in like a hitch , pin it n away you go .Rods don’t bounce around n damage reels or guides.
I messed up my first try. Rebuilding today. I am not doing PVC through holes, I'm just screwing it directly to the backing. Not as nice looking as yours, but should work just fine.
Another one out of the park. My brother in law used to break rod tips off by traveling and letting them get between the bed and tailgate. I think he lost more rods that way than any other way. Thanks for the tip.
You sure can't beat a buck! For those a little better off than the majority of us, pipe installation can also be used. (Only comes in that grey color though!) It comes in a bunch of different sizes and it's already cut down the middle. I used scraps for years to protect the very tips (foot or so of top) that seem to like to get slammed in my truck door! However. With this fresh approach, I'll be upgrading to full rod protection as soon as they get them back in stock. (I think they only have them in the summer here). Excellent hack Steve and Fishyaker!
Great idea as usual. I use a 4” drain pipe about 5’ long with a cap on one end. I put about 6 rods in the pipe. I have been doing this for years and I have never broken a rod yet. Keep up the good work.
A load bar across your bed with a noodle over the bar for padding. Lay rods on the noodle. Rod butt on bed floor up against cab and tip pointed in angled up direction facing rear of truck. Hold down and keep rod from bouncing with rubber twist cable. This setup works great for me
the awesome idea i never travel with a reel on my rod has made a leather case for each reek i have access to a quilter machine i line every case with padding to the glue and sew them to gether do the same to all my rods too i have drive throw shop for the truck and boat to park in my boat is uncovered to dry out to clean out and washed each time i use it
I use pipe insulation - you can get longer lengths and it's already split. Not completely sure they're cheaper, but they are smaller diameter, and I can get three in my actual rod tube when I am using the trailer I have the rod tube installed.
I love the Fishyaker. He was the first TH-camr that I started watching a long time ago! I used the larger pool noodles from Target and Walmart, as I was afraid that the guides would break.
The heavy duty balloons at Dollar tree stuffed into a DOLLAR TREE laundry bag displaces a far greater volume of water and my balloons have been inflated now for three months and I’ve replaced three out of twenty or so balloons. The balloons also help to absorb sound and act to stabilize other cargo. Fishing poles transport and carry much easier if broken down into sections; it’s already been designed to break down for transportation and ease of handling while not using it. I would recommend using well nuts and attach four or six inch sections of your pool noodle to handy spots on the kayak to store your rod in the down position while paddling in over grown streams and rivers. The noodle sections can also be used to stow lengths of rope, anchor lines, telescoping anchor poles made of aluminum designed for extending to clean high windows. Another discovery I recently made; A cheap; D size; battery operated fluid pump found at harbor freight works great for bilge pump. I’ve mounted mine into the kayak and located the pickup tube at the lowest point after the kayak is loaded with me in it. I’ve made the discharge penetrate the hull so it functions like any through hull bilge pump discharge. If you happen to be in rough water; you’ll be happy not to have to stop and hand pump water that may be coming in with every wave. Harbor freight sells a oil filter vice grip tool which is an excellent set of grip fingers to grip and lift a fish from the water or clamp anything up to 6” wide. I glues leather on the tips to protect painted surfaces and my kayak hull. I have and use about ten of these clamps instead of C clamps or any other clamping tool; in most cases they are the ideal tool for clamping or picking anything up; including fish, gators, snakes, hot fire wood, around small trees to use as a step or hang from. Designed to remove oil filters but great for many other uses including kayaking.
Kayak Hacks Fishing it’s just a few modifications I’ve discovered and use. I’m experimenting with ways to add paint to a kayak and it not peel off. I think I’ve discovered a base coating that then permits color coating adhesion when using a good quality paint. If this works old or new kayaks can be covered with custom adhesion graphics or paint. It might turn into a new business venture. So far the base coating has lasted outdoors for four months. My anti sinking; balloon buoyancy idea works perfectly. Figure for every cubic ft of displacement I gain 64 pounds of positive buoyancy. One to Two cubic feet is very easy to create using balloons. By making 3 to 4 cubic feet of water displacement; It would be impossible to sink a kayak even loaded with gear and an adult. Even if a hole was drilled in the bottom.
Good tips. They make those in different sizes. Cutting the small ones down to zip tie to rods will make them float if they fall out of you yak. It's cheaper than buying the commercial rod floats. If you go to the hardware store, you can get the same type of material for insulating water pipes in a much smaller diameter. It fits better, has a self adhesive strip & is less conspicuous with the grey or black foam colors. But either option is significantly cheaper than buying commercially made ones.
Question... What do you use to protect your reel when you're bouncing down that four-wheel drive Road? What do you use to protect the bail on that spinning reel to keep it from getting the hell beat out of it? We have a number of older bath towels that I've allocated for use in my shop, so I personally take a towel and wrap around the reel. I just secure it with a rubber band or a piece of duct tape, during the trip. The rod is important but what if the rod makes it and your reel is broke, your handles are bent or casualties of the trip take its toll on the reels. Tight Lines and Full Limits To Ya 🎣
You have a great idea! My rods are longer than my truck bed, so the angle between back and top of the tailgate keeps the reel from banging around. But your idea is much better! Thanks
2 liter coke bottle, drill hole in bottom if you got straight handle or leave if you got pistol grip. Cut neck off the top right where it starts getting thin enough to cut easily. Then slit one side from hole(or middle bottom) up the bottle neck. You can then insert the reel inside the bottle with the rod coming out the bottle neck. If you have a long handle it can poke out the bottom. You really OCD you can put a thin layer of foam inside the bottle. Frankly over all this I just go to hardware store, buy some PVC pipe and fittings, and build hard cases for my poles. 2 inch fits most poles then neck it up enough (3 or 4 inch) for the reel, finally put a screw in drain cleanout for a cap to keep the rod in. Really helps if you got a buddy that is a plumber or electrician.
$5 is far cheaper than a broken rod when you are on your way to the water. Btw, have you seen my $5 challenge video? $5 can go a long way in someones life.
Great idea I’ve got to try I have been watching Fish Yaker for a long time but did not see him listed in the description or did I just miss it. Thanks again for the tip
Great u protect the rod, BUT, what about protecting that $200+ reel? That's why I made a rocket launcher style rod holder for my truck NOTHING lays in the bed
So stupid. eBay had a 12 pack of real sleeves in cool colors for $9. Plus they don’t take up 3 times the space a a noodle that will crush the eyes. Terrible idea.

the brilliant way to cut a straight line on the noodle was worth the price of admission, the rest is icing on the cake, thank you sir
Excellent idea for cutting the pool noodles!
Great idea. I take the kids pond hopping and also explore some hidden creeks thru the woods. This will even help with snagged lines in the bushes.
What a great idea, Steve. Pool noodles are so good for so many things. I've heard some people even use them as a water toy in swimming pools.
Really? lol
Jim King I never heard that before.
I have to admit I too have a little OCD problem, Cheers for yet another very useful tip.

Great info as always , set the hook brother
That's a great idea! Question - any indication the PVC is strong enough over time? Did you make the rack yourself or is it available as a product?
I made it myself , I paint PVC and never had a problem with it. I’ve put rods in it in El Paso and drove to Oklahoma City.
I messed up my first try. Rebuilding today. I am not doing PVC through holes, I'm just screwing it directly to the backing. Not as nice looking as yours, but should work just fine.

That is a great idea 👍👍👍 thanks. I and ocd to, so I appreciate how to cut the perfect straight line.
Fast is best!
I love the Fishyaker. He was the first TH-camr that I started watching a long time ago! I used the larger pool noodles from Target and Walmart, as I was afraid that the guides would break.
Same here. He inspired me to start.
Thank you. Great tips
Terrific idea!

If you go to the big box stores and get pipe insulation its almost the same but is cut already
Thanks for the tip!

Enjoy your helpful videos, thank you!
You are so welcome!
GREAT IDEA!! I'd like to see you do a reel cover hack video to protect your reel! I'm ocd myself and dont like my reels getting beatin & scratched!
Hmmmm... reel cover....

I need to try the coke bottle thing!
What a great idea 🐟
Great idea for bait casting rod with the micro eyes. But still your reel is open for damage
Very true!
When will the tube appear.
Not sure what you are asking
Great idea! Thanks for the tip 👍🏻
I LIKE it; that said I got Pelicans, they won't sink.
Great idea
Great idea!!! Thanks for the tip Steve 👍 hope you have a great and blessed New year 👍😁🌲🔥⛺
Thanks and same to you!
Perfection
Nice idea, but you're not OCD you're a perfectionist.
lol! Better way to put it!
$5 is far cheaper than a broken rod when you are on your way to the water. Btw, have you seen my $5 challenge video? $5 can go a long way in someones life.
Thanks for the push on the challenge! I just signed up for the monthly tunnels to towers charity.
Great idea I’ve got to try I have been watching Fish Yaker for a long time but did not see him listed in the description or did I just miss it. Thanks again for the tip
whoops. I have links to him at the end of the video but forgot to put one in the description. Corrected now. Thanks
Damn he is so smart...
lol! I wish I was.
wow best trick ever
Great u protect the rod, BUT, what about protecting that $200+ reel?
That's why I made a rocket launcher style rod holder for my truck NOTHING lays in the bed
I would love to see a picture of that. Please post it to my Facebook page if you like as a comment - facebook.com/KayakHacksFishing
Brilliant
zz why don't u use the tube that your rod was shipped in like I do.....it's free
Great idea!
You have to be careful with the covered rods in the back of a truck. The noodles will make your rods easier to blow out of the truck bed.
True
Now I can stop hearing my wife complaing about scratching this inside of my SUV.
So stupid. eBay had a 12 pack of real sleeves in cool colors for $9. Plus they don’t take up 3 times the space a a noodle that will crush the eyes. Terrible idea.
Thanks for pointing me to a better source
Thought you were going to say use a womans nylon panty hose. 🤣
Would that work? I know some hunters wear it for warmth.
