    It's such a shame how many talented young musicians want to perform on Got Talent, but it's difficult for them to even have a successful performance unless they either play a pop song, or a very well known classical piece. It's good to see some countries treat classical music with more respect on their talent shows!

    Elijah, the cellist in the yellow t shirt, is actually an incredible classical cellist, and I’m pretty sure (if I remember hearing correctly) he originally sent in the audition as a classical piece but they said that they would rather him play ‘7 Rings’ to suit the preferred audience of the show 😓. I wish he had played a classical piece as it would of shown off his talent way more!

      It's a pity really, that for you to perform on that stage you have no much say in what you play. And I only can imagine what heart wrenching is that all those pieces that you love and practice are rejected in face of marketing because they are classical ones, as if... your musical choice is not good enough to be displayed to the public! (What a lie! And I wonder, what impression gives that situation to young musicians that are doing their best to develop their education/future career (mostly those ones that want to perform in this venue and find this)?
      Thankfully, there are other platforms/events where classical music is truly appreciated. (This channel being one of them)
      Sorry, I don't know if I'm expressing myself correctly here... English is not my main language, and maybe I'm looking to deep in all of this.

    I just want to point out, that Elijah, for an example, is an amazingly talented, classically trained cellist, who attended pre college at San Francisco Conservatory and everything, but talent shows don't want that, they want people playing pop music, since the audience wouldn't get classical music

    • @whatchaseehoppy

      @Casutama ปีที่แล้ว +144

      But that's such a self-fulfilling prophecy. They don't actually give the people a chance to be familiar with or get to know classical music. Maybe the audiences wouldn't mind. The TV shows just decide for them that they would probably hate it.

    • @pirana4011
      @pirana4011 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      @@Casutama yea, exactly! Also sometimes the arrangements classical musicians play in talent shows just don't sound good, because the song was not written for classical instruments, so those shows kinda fool the audience two times at once.

    • @MaggaraMarine
      @MaggaraMarine ปีที่แล้ว +25

      "since [they think] the audience wouldn't get classical music"
      FTFY
      AGT clearly underestimates the intelligence of the audience (well, not saying that "getting" classical music even requires intelligence, but that's exactly the point - the show thinks that a good musical performance is too high IQ on its own, and needs to be more "entertaining" so that the audience gets it). In the Finnish version, they let the musicians be themselves, and talented musicians tend to do pretty well, regardless of what kind of music they play.

Like if one person coughs I’ll get caught up, not to speak of many people clapping “on beat”, putting even more pressure on being on time, plus making it difficult if you have tempo changes. The two electric cellists are named Emil and Dariel, they came to my summer camp the year after they performed on AGT. They are actual classical musicians, but their approach to rock music on string instruments wasn’t that special, rock strings is kind of the whole point of the camp and most of us could do what they did. The really bizarre part was that the life story they told on the show was nothing at all like their actual life. They made it sound like their grandfather had raised them completely on his own, and when they came to the camp their father was like right there. They were nice kids and obviously talented, but that was the first time I really became aware how much of a lie competition shows are.

      It would be nice if TwoSet made reacted to some of the musical performances from the "Prodiges" show, maybe together with clips of similar shows if they exist in other countries.
      I think it is was a good idea from France 2 to have a dedicated show for classical music (and ballet) because most other talent shows are judged by the lowest common denominator: whatever is popular or "looks cool" to the general public wins. This is a prime time show, so it still has to be entertaining for the audience but it is an opportunity for these kids to show their skills in a positive environment and be rewarded for their years of practice! It is showing to kids of all backgrounds that classical music and ballet can be "cool" and hopefully it inspires and motivates some of them to start learning or, if they already started, to persevere in this endeavor.

      "Maestro" (a Dutch tv show) is also a guilty pleasure to react for TwoSet. Some famous Dutch people (many without any musical training) try to conduct a professional symphonic orchestra. They get coached by real conductors etc. Some are a disaster (cringe fest), but the winner is actually decent after weeks of training. So it's both entertainment and a portayal of how practice and determination can actually develop skills. :)

    5:24 Soo, not really about classical performances, but about a shared pain from all my performances in my past club. I used to do equestrian vaulting, where during our performances we were not only judged for our choreography on the horseback itself, but also for our synchronized entry and exit choreography. Because of that we often had music with a very clear rhythm to guide our choreography and the audience always felt compelled to clap (even though most groups asked not to, since clapping can unsettle the horse), but honestly, the audience was never able to clap in the correct rhythm. No matter how on the nose the rhythm was, afeter a few moments I always had to choose: will I run to the audience's rhythm or try to decipher the music's actual rhythm? Maaaan I hated the clapping soo much.

      My thoughts exactly. The audience is usually never on time and its very distracting, even to me who isn't even musically trained. Like where I expect the beat to land the audience is always slightly ahead or behind or the clap kind of gets... drawn out.

    I am from the US. My mother was a music teacher kindergarten through high school. We don't quite have the music education in those grades in many districts that we used to. The instances of audiences clapping before the end of the phrase is a sample of folks not being educated how to be an audience. As for Europe being a bit more aware of the value of pieces beyond "Flight of the Bumblebee" I concur. I am so glad this channel exists to fill in the blanks that even I need filled after playing classical piano since 6 (that is a total of 53 years). I'm not cut out to be a pro and I'm so-so as an accompanist, but I love music and all genres of it. That's the value of a good music education for those who won't be pros or will only play in local concert bands and orchestras, many in pretty small towns.
