My first time playing this was way back in the year of 1998. Changed my life, this was the game that made me realize videogames could be cinematic. Coming off a 16-bit era console to Playstation in just a year to play something like this was something special. It'll probably look old school, even antiquated by today's standards, but this game still holds up on some of those epic set pieces I first experienced back then
To enter some doors you need the KEY CARD to be equipped. Or the door wont open . And for some doors you need higher level KEY CARD And if you have RATION equipped on the left side , then you dont need to heal yourself the ratio will automatically heal you if your HP goes down to 0 and if you have at least 1 ration in stock.
The original metal gear solid for PS1 is still to this day my favorite game of all time. It pretty much revolutionized the espionage/sneaking action games genre at the time it was released. It was also one of the first games I remember playing where the cutscenes were like a complete cinematic movie. And the soundtrack/score was amazing. This makes me want to go back and play it all over again. I'm so watching the reactions to this. Even though it's technically a fictional game there is so much relatable and true information presented about the nature of war, nuclear weapons, geopolitics, and human behavior and nature. I think you are going to love the rest of this game, I know I did!
Close, but MGS didn't 'revolutionize Tactical Espionage', it literally created the entire genre. It didn't exist before MGS... It also did a lot of innovation things that 25+ years later have never been recreated...like using physical items in the real world as in game mechanics, like needing to look at the back of your game case to get a specific codec frequency, or having a boss read your memory card as in game lore....sure some games before it were able to read your memory card, but literally none of them used that to build upon the in game story... Not to mention psycho Mantis vibrating your controller. Back then dualshock was pretty new, so it was kinda mind blowing having him move your controller IRL with his 'psychic powers'...
It only gets wilder from here. Metal Gear Solid 3 is my all-time favourite game and I know this franchise is going to make you feel every emotion known to man(dy). You're gonna love it!
I love that you played this game Mandy!! This one game dictated how I would play other games with stealth or choose characters that were focused on traits that focused on tactical espionage. I hope you enjoy the gameplay and the story. Good Luck!!!
Glad you’re playing this! I’d recommend watching the Briefing videos from the Start Menu to gain a better understanding of the mission objectives and background info too.
@@sixfootfourmike Yeah. I'm 37 and so far MGS 4 is the only game that made me tear up at the end. May have to do with the fact that I was tired af because I played it through in one long night, but still a great game to finish the series (MGS5 is also very good, but after the first time I started playing it before 4 every time I make a re run of the series)
I'm sure solid snake will be right up your alley. Legendary game series. Pro tips: 1) if you press down in the codec menu, all the people you can call are listed and you can just select one. So you don't have to remember the numbers. 2) If you stand in front of a door you have to equip the key card in the items menu and it'll open if the card level is high enough. The level required is the number shown on the door. 3) You can choke out the guards using the melee buttons. It's a silent way of taking down enemies if you sneak up on them and it saves ammo. (You can even plant C4 on their ass iirc).
a lot of people playing this series for the first time lately! can't complain! btw if you press down when in the codec screen, it saves all of the people you've spoken to
Thank you for trying this out. May you continue to find interesting cutscenes, looking forward to your thoughts on the story and the characters and all the little things like Alaskan Field Mice Hype and music and everything.
You got to the elevator without setting off an alert, very impressive. I don't hear that "age hasn't slowed you down one bit" line from Colonel Campbell very often when first timers play, it's normally a different line that was recorded based on being caught at least once. Well done. Let me throw you a subscribe, I want to see how good you do 👍
I was around 8 when I first played this game, and there was one boss fight that blew my tiny kid mind. Because it used a gameplay mechanic that was unbelievable. I wonder how it will translate in this modern version you're using. Can't wait for that boss fight!
Please please please please be careful for spoilers in comments!!!!!!! if anything you need to lock yourself away from what people say because it always seems to happen in every playthrough online i've seen. If you have a friend that has played the series to moderate the comments first then that could work. A blind playthrough online of this series is amazing for us to witness and extremely rare (people do it live with chat) but yea watching out for when people spoil stuff is all I can say.
Bro. The game is extremely popular and has been out for more than 2 decades. She's only streaming this because it's popular right now in the female streaming community. There is no such thing as a totally candid playthrough anymore.
Hi! I recommend you watch the couple of videos in the "briefing" section at the menu, is not spoilers (don't worry) it's just a context to understand the situation of your mission as Solid Snake. The other tips is: don't be shy to call your allies by Codec all time (more than once btw) to get useful help during the gameplay, just that!! Greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷 🇦🇷
This was really one of those games that changed gaming and how people thought about games. It was truly one of the greatest cinematic experiences that the medium had to offer at the time. And even though stealth mechanics had been done before in the previous Metal Gear games, they weren't done anywhere near as well, largely because gaming tech had seemingly caught up with the ambitions of Konami and Hideo Kojima. Pretty much any game that employs stealth mechanics since was influenced in some way by Metal Gear Solid.
omg I am so hyped!! You got so far! And this is such a good game for YT bc sooo much of the story comes in these long and sometimes optional codec calls, and it makes it difficult to interact with chat. I hope it's okay, I'll just say a couple of gameplay things -- you can access a speed dial of your codec contacts by pressing down in the codec menu (so long as you've initiated at least one outgoing call to them before), and while the game will tutorialize you like a little bit in the codec calls, I do think that they expected that you would look at the manual to learn the controls, which I'd guess is probably somewhere in the master collection menus, if not online (the weapon specialist's frequency is in there too). Ohhhh, and also, next time you play, if you're interested, there's a little bit more plot available from the main menu's briefing option. Ahhh, I love this game so much!
The MGS series is my favorite series of all time. I'm probably the biggest MGS fan. Really loving how a lot of people are finding MGS in 2024. I'm praying you play through the whole series, including MGS4. It's my favorite of the series, and the best one in my opinion. I'm hoping when you get there, you can find a way you get your hands on it, whether it be on the original PS3 or emulator. Very excited to be here with yet another person's first time MGS experience!! ❤🎉
I started this game and dont think I ever finished it, but I must have watched my best friend play it at least 3 times. What excellent, impressive voice acting, especially in an era where VA wasnt commonly used or the line delivery seemed awkward or slow, when VA was included. The voice acting in this game is truly incredible and engaging.
@@marksmania42 Maybe you also need to skip the socom on the truck outside otherwise the cutscene doesn't make any sense. mgs1 story/setting/vibes are really special (chillz evrytim) that were never really captured again but that's what's so great about this series, every game is a new kind of wierd and wonderful. A couple small hints (in case nobody has mentioned yet) is that there is another menu for items on the left side, just hold the left trigger and it should show up. From there you should have a keycard that'll allow you to get into security level 1 doors. Also, if you push down on the controller in the codec menu, all the frequencies your character currently knows are listed there and can be called directly from that menu. Good luck!
Funny how a lot of the people I follow on YT because of their FF lp's are ending up in the MGS series. Not sure how to connect those games, but I surely am happy to see my favorite game series here. This will be a great journey. Just keep in mind that a lot of story bits are hidden in the codec messages. Even more so in the upcoming games.
The game doesn't do a good job of telling you, but when you pull up the Codec screen, there are two options, one on top that says PTT(Push to Talk), and on the bottom, it says memory. Hit the down button to select memory, and it will list all of the codec frequencies of all of your contacts. That way you don't have to write down and memorize everything. Edit: grammar and spelling.
