Thanks for watching! Let me know what you thought down here in the comments... and if you're considering picking this machine up, do it before the pre-sale special goes away 🤤shrsl.com/4txe9
Did you by any chance receive a test sample of the Kobra 3 max too? i preordered one on 16th december but canceled the order yesterday since there are still none existing videos from content creators like you aboutt thje K3 max :( (did also preorder kobra s1 copmbo for 549 and think it was a good deal )
100% YES... The only problem with that might be getting dropped by given brand's affiliate program or getting review units... Which harms any content creator income :/
@ I think you're confusing bambu-paid influencers here. I received $0 from Prusa and never got anything for free, I still bashed Bambu after they decided to start gaslighting people.
@@jonwoodworker I think you're confusing us with Bambu-paid shills. I received $0 from Prusa and never got anything for free from them. I started bashing BBL after they decided to gaslight users. I know some influencers who had X1C's sent to them for free and started speaking out against bambu lab after the latest fiasco. So I don't know where you found those mythical prusa-paid influencers.
You know what would be nice is if one of these manufacturers just added a "branding" config to OrcaSlicer (containing UI settings, logo settings, colors, and "Powered by OrcaSlicer") and just contributed directly to the main project. All of these forks are creating an OrcaSlicer universe of different feature sets, with only a few of the forkers contributing backwards in the branch as they iterate -- they'll all continue to diverge over time and we'll have 12 different Slicers.
I really am glad bambu stepped into this market, its making companies i trust more to innovate more than they have been and given us printers that really are just amazing!
@anthonylong5870 i think the price is mainly because od the size. Would still like to see the quality differences. Also.... he literally compared the s1 to x1c in this video
@@MalyVitaloshnikits like comparing Fiat do TOYOTA. Have 4 wheels, check, 1 steering wheel check. 5 seets check. But fiat drives like shit and engines are poor.
I’m ok with this overall pre-review, I would appreciate another video sooner than later. Maybe a deep dive into the ACE system to see where the cost is being cut and doesn’t function as described. I’ve seen some content creators with issues and I don’t know if I trust them. Thanks for what you do. 👍👍
Did mine order as quick as You did :) The price was crazy low for enclosed printer with "ams"/dryer system stock. Can't wait to check all of those features and just to have another affordable printer :)
I really liked this format considering it was a sponsored video and not a review. You presented the information well and the comparisons really highlighted its improvements
Sponsor Alert Propaganda. I print for the last 15 years, when all this guys didn't know what 3d printer is. This printer is entry level printer: Anycubic as long as it exists struggled with warped beds, not very good extruders, loose belts, quality checks, loose connectors etc. What this guy doesn't tell you is that Multi color unit is very poor and cheap. Cant retract spools causing filament to jam. Color change takes almost 2:30 minutes ich time. Software is poor and doubt it will be improved. 600mm/s just stop this nonsense if you want to have any quality. Printer is made of plastic. If you think you are buying bambulab or creality then sadly you arent. I'm happy to change my mind but for now I will keep my opinion.
I like your comment. So in your opinion in this price range what’s the best option? I was looking for the bambulab a1 as my first printer before the case blowed up and now I’m left quite contradicted! Thank you for your time 🫶
Ok, finally a brand that said …“Bambu Lab, how can we beat them?”…. And the Kobra S1 was born. Literally every feature that does what Bambu Lab doesn’t. Filament Dryer - ✔️ Open source - ✔️ Better AMS feed -✔️ Better AMS splitter -✔️ Better nozzle quick swap-✔️ Quieter operation - ✔️ Pivoting touch screen - ✔️ 320 hot end - ✔️ 120 hot bed - ✔️ I mean damn bro, do I need to continue here????… lets not even talk about the price difference here… if your looking for a Bambu alternative …. This gotta be it
I mostly agree with what you said, but what's open source about it? If it's just the ability to use a different slicer, that's not what open source means.
I don't know Rick... X1C released years ago... being compared with a just-released printer? That doesn't sound fair... I only enjoyed the noise comparison analysis. The rest of the review doesn't look genuine or even fair. Hopefully, you might take this feedback as is (constructive), not as an insult or as disrespect. I look at all your videos and enjoy them regularly, that's why I decided to drop my 2 cents here.
Whatever you say in a Sponsored post, is pointless.Bambulab is still the apple of 3d printers. They are the only reason I've started this hobby again, and once I've got the A1 with AMS, I've managed to even sell printed products after a couple of days.
I've had a Anycubic Vyper for several years and I have found it to be a solid, hassle-free printer. Looks like the Kobra S1 provides the upgrades I've been looking for in my next printer: 1) Quiet operation 2) Multi-color printing 3) enclosure for ABS and other materials, and 4) quick swap hot-end/nozzle. I may just have to take the plunge and upgrade now. Thanks for posting!
@@demonhunter2282 I think that was one of the more common issues with the Vyper. I had that issue out of the box, but a minor adjustment to the strain gauge fixed it for me. Probably came loose during shipping.
@ nothing worked for mine. I did manually level it but i like printing thing not fixing a printer. I do enough soldering and other repairs for that itch
I have the S1 on order, should arrive around the end of this month. I also have a FLSun SR, a K1 , A1 Mini, and my latest a Qidi Plus 4. I have to say absolutely thrilled with the A1, and the Qidi has also been a solid as a rock performer. The super racer is OK, if uninspiring, and not as good as it could have been. The K1 took a lot of tweaking, and firmware upgrades (and rooting) have made it much more reliable. I took a chance on the Qidi, as "it ain't a Bambu", and it's worked out great (with replaced SSR board). I have a buddy who got the Kobra Max 3, and he says it's rock-solid. Based on his experience, and some of the YT vids I've seen, I'm looking forward to another printer I don't actually need, but dangit, I love 3d printers! Seriously, great job on the video Jonathan, appreciate the candor, keep up the good work!
I would like to see you do an unbiased review showing the good and the bad, things to look out for, etc. I'm looking at buying this printer as my first machine and will be doing so in a few weeks once I have the cash to order it. I'm also thinking of making some designs of my own and taking advantage (in a good way for personal use) of the generousity of the 3d printing community via the free files offered. I really like a lot of the designs and appreciate that so much is available for no cost to get me started on printing things I like. There's no shortage of good designs out there. :) The hard part is deciding what filaments I want to start with. There's so many pretty options available.
This is tempting, but first, what is AnyCubic's track record for introducing insufficiently tested products, and their subsequent customer service dealing with issues?
@@daggerg8451 wouldn't say it's that cheap £830 for the printer and the 8 filament thing lol. Sorry forgot what it's called.. But that's also with a 24% early bird discount!
An S1 owner who has printed over 400 hrs on it. Just want to point out 2 misinformations in the video: 1) the plastic they use for the front door and top is PC, not acrylic. It is stated explicitly on their website. 2) The AI detection has worked since its launch. It triggered twice for me.
What is your take on the printer? What do you like, and more importantly what do you dislike? Do you print PET / ABS / ASA? I have one on pre-order so I am curious to learn about your experience.
I got mine a couple weeks ago, and only have just over 24 hours of print time. From my experience, though, AI detection works sometimes, and others don't. I've had some occasions where it will say that spaghetti was detected when there was none, and then not detect it at all when there was. On a few occasions, response to detecting print issues was delayed, but it did stop the print. Overall, the printer is great and has been working well for me, but the AI detection seems to be in a beta state and is kind of buggy at the moment.
@@LukeSzczepaniak The machine is solid, as stable as my P1S IMHO and definitely worth the price. Print quality is on par with P1S too. I especially love how humble Anycubic is (I know some of their leaders). They acknowledge their weakness, apologize to users often, and respect other companies, unlike some other companies... The things I dislike are the slow filament/color change and the lack of accessories atm, but I think future firmware updates can change these. Like the new S1 firmware added part skipping and ACE Pro logic and noise reduction. Ecosystem (Makeronline + printer) can be another weakness, if you always print other ppl's designs. I have printed ABS & ASA & Nylon, and they came out great. Nylon parts shrinked a little bit, but that's normal in a machine without an active heated chamber.
@@zyz2525 Thank you, that is fantastic news. I mostly print my own designs and have little interest in the online repositories but it seems like all the manufacturers and most users are pushing for it so I am sure that will improve over time. I will probably add my own heater to the chamber in the long run so I am not too concerned about that. At this point my only concern is the lack of a steel / hardened nozzle - i hope i can put standard nozzle in in the hot end and don't have to wait for an after market accessory to come out. As fara s the ACE speed it would be nice to have a firmware speed things up and that it isn't a hardware limitation but speed is not a huge factor for me. It would be nice if Anycubic added the ability for purge management in the slicer rather than having to manage it from the printer directly.
@@LukeSzczepaniak No problem! Agree with all your points. AC did tell me they will release official hardened steel nozzles. When you get the machine, don't try to unscrew the original nozzle to replace it with another nozzle because the nozzle is actually glued with the hotend to prevent leakage.
this person broke a embargo for reviewing bambu labs and is no longer working with bambu so consider him overly biased since being removed from bambu as sponsor
The Any Cubic Cobra S1 looks impressive, especially at this price point. I had to replace the hot end and some parts on the board on the print module came off the connecting board which had to be replaced. It has been difficult to fix due to the size of the print head plugs. Since the Any Cubic is about 1/2 the price of the Bambu, I decided to order one & see how it works. Thanks for all the information you provided.
Yeah, great vid. I was looking to upgrade and have been considering the Anycubic. This was just the video I wanted to find out the various comparisons. Cool of them to let you do this, and thanks.
The bigger question? Has Bambu Lab learned anything from it's competition about keeping things OPEN SOURCE!? Guess not. Bambu deterred me as a customer moment I heard "closed source / proprietary firmware", when I heard that and heard about the RFID spool tags, I knew it was a matter of time before they try to go Apple (or how I like to call them Crapple) route of telling you how you can or can not use their machine that you bought!
@2.43: Yes, the Kobra S1 uses its own firmware and its own cloud services like Bamba Lab. I doubt that Bambu is learning to use OSS given the direction of the market
Unfortunately, for many people it doesn't matter whether a system is open source or closed source. Otherwise, Bambu Lab printers would not have become so widespread. In addition, these printers are increasingly becoming disposable products. Repairability is often limited because some components cannot be replaced individually; instead, a complete assembly has to be replaced.
Xi Jinping, “Power Must be Caged by the System”, Qiushi, January 22, 2013: “We should continue to catch ‘tigers’ as well as ‘flies’ when dealing with cases of leading officials in violation of Party discipline and state laws as well as misconduct and corruption problems that directly affect the people’s interests. All are equal before the law and Party discipline; whoever is involved in a corruption case must be thoroughly and impartially investigated.” The results, after 12 years of Xi’s anti-corruption campaign? “Corruption is RAMPANT in China!” -Victor Gao, Al Jazeera, August 2024 in front of a live international audience. Note: When Xi says ‘tigers’ he means the rich and powerful in China. When he says ‘flies’, he’s referring to everyone else in China. Flies. Says a lot about him and the CCP doesn’t it?
Bambu labs is run by a bunch of ex, DJI drone engineers, think about the company culture of DJI, same basic premise. They take open source projects, make a few improvements and close the source, reskin the software/item and print money. Their products are also not compatible with any other common standards, even if the original projects they used were, and aside from the ability to block you from using other competitors parts and software, these proprietary standards serve no real practical purpose. Its business as usual for them. I personally was interested in getting one of their printers until they tried to pull their predatory nonsense and lock people into their walled garden. Its disappointing, now im stuck looking for alternatives as i cant trust they won't make things worse when they want more money out of us.
Both are great printers, to be sure, but my point was just to show that in 2.5 years, other companies have identified some of the long-term problems the bambu machines have had, and fixed them before Bambu did (except the ones that were fixed in the A1 series). You'll be happy with the S1, I think, but AnyCubic or the aftermarket NEEDS to come out with hardened nozzles!
@ I do not support any company that tries to limit users choices on firmware etc. Bambu shot themselves in the foot last week in my opinion. I don't even run closed source software or operating systems on my computers...
@@rickbauer7088 I agree that I'm not happy with the direction bambu is headed. Hoping the community has spoken up enough that they change course. And also, do you drive a car from the last 30 years? Proprietary software! What phone do you use... most likely there is proprietary software running on it. Do you use Google or Microsoft for productivity? Proprietary software again! It's ok for a company to want to own their IP. The poor choice is threatening to change TOS after the fact. Let's not loose the thread here.
@ Go back and read my comment above. I ONLY run open source software...ONLY. This includes the operating systems, productivity, and other applications. I own older vehicles specifically so I am no replying on modern computer controls or subject to the problems that come with them. I was a master certified automotive technician most of my life and will never own a vehicle that requires updates to firmware to be able to be used or that allows a remote ability to control the vehicle or it's use in any way. This includes remote unlocking as well as tracking or worse yet the ability to remotely disable the vehicle. I too hope Bambu has learned their lesson and I hope me cancelling my purchase of their printer and instead ordering the Anycubic Kobra S1 was at some level part of the lesson for them. If I am satisfied with the S1 I'll be adding more of the same. It will take a while for Bambu to prove they have learned their lesson and I don't have years to wait. I'm willing to bet I am not the only sales they lost and they will remember their lesson for a long time going forward.
I will say I love my X1C. These new printers are great, and I just cant imagine WTH Bambu is thinking with all these lockdowns when so many are coming out with real competition. Its like they want to just fail and shut down.
@@jonwoodworkerALL Bambu are completely locked with proprietary firmware. You cant even change a si.ple Z Offset when its needed. You cant upgrade them and working on them is a nightmare
@@anthonylong5870 I have owned an X1c since the Kickstarter. I have upgraded the AMS to the Python AMS, the hotend to a Revo, the part cooling to the Panda Jet, the extruder gears, build plates, lighting, not to mention the many many printed upgrades. Arguably the easiest printer to upgrade that I have ever owned going all the way back to my OG Ender 3 about 10 years ago. Z Offset is adjustable with one click in OrcaSlicer. My X1c is completely offline and managed via a HA dashboard, on my Mac and iPhone. Over 1600 hours printed on this one unit and printing better than when new. Working on them is really a breeze with all the documentation out there. I get the feeling that the people complaining about bambu printers being locked down, not easy to work on, etc are the same people that cannot do those things anyways. 🤣
2:30 into the video. Not a single word talked about what's mentioned in the title. Click.bait. Baiting ppl to pay to hear 'honest' opinion? Oh boy, not sure how you can look into a mirror.
I like the way you have tackled the sponsored video, pointing out the features and differences, well done! I also agree with your view on the integration of access to allow Orca Slicer to work directly with the printer. Coming from an IT background and also with some knowledge of IT Security and Information Management Security Systems more specifically, I think that integration between the vendor's back-end system, whether Bambu Lab, AnyCubic, Creality or Elegoo etc, with the front-end. i.e. Orca Slicer (or equivalent) should be frictionless beyond a one-time installation and set-up process. 👋
Got the S1 Combo for 440€, it will arrive in March. There are not a lot of reviews out there and some seem to have older software and profiles that have since been improved. In your video I learnt a couple of things, like how you actually load the Ace. So thanks
Full functionality in LAN mode and offline mode non-negotiable for me. Cloud mode is *always* at risk of breaking, disappearing or causing un-requested "upgrades", no matte how trustworthy the current owners of the manufacturer are.
Nice first look, thanks. I ordered the S1 Combo on Jan. 4th. Can't wait for it to arrive. I live in North Carolina so it looks like they will start shipping to the US on Feb. 20th - 28th. I have one big question. Currently it looks like Anycubic only sells PLA on cardboard spools. I've heard that folks around the world are saying that plastic spools are preferable. I want to try out their filament with RFID. Do you have any thoughts on that? Thanks again.
Since my desire to buy Bambu is waning due to recent events, this printer does make for a compelling replacement/upgrade for my P1S Combo… I mean I’m not tossing the Bambu, but a better specced machine with multiple QOL improvements, (hopefully) more open architecture, at lower cost? Sounds fantastic! I’m just going to wait for long term reviews :)
Tried to buy one last week as my first printer and the delivery was expected to be in the last week of April (in the UK). That ruled it out for me. Ended up buying a secondhand Flashforge AD5M Pro locally for next to nothing. Bed isn't as big as I'd like and obviously no auto multi-material but it looks like it'll sort my needs until I look again later in the year.
@@3DATHENS-qi1tu Too early in my journey to know that but I do know that at the equivalent of $200 for something that had printed for 90 hours and came with 6 assorted (some partially used) spools of PLA, it was an absolute bargain. I've actually only printed the test 20mm cube which it started after I'd configured it and couldn't believe the quality of it using some random flourescent yellow PLA that was already fitted to the printer. Now just need to find somewhere to put it.
I have been looking for a multicolor printer for a while now. I was always hesitant to pay the price it costs for the Bamboo lab X1 Carbon. While it does sound amazing to be able to use 16 different colors, realistically I did not see myself using more than like 5 colors for my prints. So I opted for a Kobra S1, I bought the printer and two of the Ace pros to go with it, all for under 1000 dollars. I think that is a great deal in my opinion. It should be arriving soon!
I enjoy listening to your videos! Currently, I have 2 Bambu Labs 3-D printers. Frankly, I love them as they’re amazing machines! I was ready for my 3-D printing business to marry Bambu Labs until this recent controversy with the firmware. Now, I think I will start looking for another company to build my 3-D print farm around and if they have the reliability of Bambu Labs, then I will build my 3-D print farm around Anycubic. Looking forward to your review on this printer.
Why does every printer manufacturer think they need to make their own fork of Orca Slicer and stick their company name on it? Did they not get the memo that everyone is getting tired of having a dozen slicers installed?
Why post a biased video on a video due to sponsorship at all? Every one can read a spec sheet. We want to know your thoughts and unbiased. Non paid for issues and opinions with it.
Why? This video pays my employees' salaries for 2 months. Also, I got the printer a week ago, that's not enough time to do a proper review. Unlike some, I won't post a "review" when I only have 40 print hours on a machine. More like 400. But, I hear you, and I appreciate the feedback.
Savings are ONLY staggering IF it’s as reliable as a Bambu. I’ve been using four year old, non stored filament constantly on my P1S and haven’t had a single print failure. This might be better but there needs to be more history.
Me casually finding out Elegoo is releasing an enclosed FDM printer by the 5 seconds in this video. 👀I hope you're able to do a review of that sometime.
Swapping the nozzle/hotend on the X1C is starting to be a really big pain. I started just leaving the 0.2mm nozzle in and printing at a 0.14 so i dont have to change it, lol. I am even considering picking up the A1 mini or AI to have a dedicated 0.2mm machine.
I’m sorry, but I was expecting you to put that machine through its paces in this video. I pre-ordered this printer about a month ago and recently cancelled the order because it’s just not being reviewed enough which scared me a bit. However, the Elegoo Centauri Carbon has recently been reviewed in the last 24 hours far more than this printer has been reviewed in the last month and a half. I’ll probably take my chances with the Centauri.
Haven't had time. Too many printers coming out right now, I barely had 40 print hours on this at the time of shooting.. So I chose to focus JUST on the hardware. Give me time to beat it up ;) I don't do a "review" unless I REALLY have put some hours on the thing
Having had an X1 carbon, that is currently out of service due to a nasty bed adhesion issue causing multiple parts in the print head to need replacement and the current hulabalu about what Bambu seems to be doing with their system, I have been looking for an alternative device. This video gives a promising potential solution. Looking forward to your independent review.
For your review video I'd really like to see your take on the ceramic extruder system coming in the S1. Hard to say whether it's good/better/worse than the competition right now as it doesn't seem like anybody else is using ceramic gears on filament printers.
Great program Question I have a medium harvest Right freeze dryer. Anyway I would like to maybe get a 3 D printer and make a 11 1/2 inch circular plate for the freeze dryer. My question is. There is no template for this and I need to make it myself. Would it be a way to do it. Or is a big deal. Thanks
Hey I just got the any cubic Kobra 3 and it's working flawlessly. The next (orca) slicer does indeed send prints over the cloud to the printer which is amazing. Coming from a Neptune for that was finicky this thing is awesome.
What are the seals around the door and the top panel like? Ive heard that they allow too much heat to escape, but I see some foam there so don't understand how this could be possible? Does the top panel have the same type of foam seals?
I have a K1 Max and I have had to replace the hot ends several times as well as unblocking the extruder. Removing and putting back is a pain, I even broke the thermistor while switching one, my fault of course, but it wouldn't have happened if I had a quick swap option. My printer is larger, but I would rather slice my models than put up with problems I have dealt with on this printer. Now, the price with a multi-color is equivalent to my printer, so knowing what I know now I would have definitely picked this one up, after all it can't be worse that it is for me now. I picked up the K1 max over the Bambu for its size and the prints I do. One trade off I will not make is open source, I consider this a lucky move not picking up a Bambu (since privacy issues came up recently) despite my problems because I use my printer for prototyping, so my prints are for my eyes only.
I’ve only been 3D printing for four months. This sounds like some great improvements on my P1S, at a better price. I’m going to look for more info but this might be my second 3D printer!
is it possible to upgrade from 4 colors to 8 if I order first version with 4 colors and is it complicated or it is just plugin in and upgrade ready to go?
Interesting video, I will defiantly be thinking about getting this machine. I have been looking for a new machine that has a bigger build volume and will print at higher temperatures then my current machine. The one thing, I would like to know is how are the built in print profiles. It seems to me that a lot of people forget how big a deal all the print profiles were on the Bambulabs printers. Being able to drop in a roll of filament and get good results without having to customize the profiles was huge for a lot of people.
THX for another interesting vid! 👍 I will also like to see a non-sponsored review, but so far I love what I see from Anycubic and with the total and ridiculous lack of support from Bambu Lab, I will seriously consider Anycubic as my next one! So please let us have the review! 😉
Very cool to see Anycubic take on Bamboo!! I was floored when I heard about Bamboo locking down... I love my max printer although it is a beast and shakes the table across the floor when running... lol
All those features and price made me make the jump on the early bird sale last month. A little worried about better hotend availability as that would unlock many more material benefits. I'm happy that people are getting excited over this printer. There are beta testers already designing parts to improve the ACE Pro btw. I don't think you were ragging on Bambu Lab, they are the top dogs to compare to.
Good review, competition is good for companies and this will either up Bambu Lab game or they will stay stagnant. I guess will find out after a year of reviews of The AnyCubic Kobra S1, either way there will be choice to choose from.😊
What is the size of the printing area? What Klipper version does it use? Does it have automatic flow calibration? What about automatic pressure advance?
Good questions. But all can be covered by visiting the link in the description. It’s not klipper. 250 cubed. Automatic material calibration apparently. Haven’t needed it.
Question. The Kobra S1 combo has 2 options. Is it saying I can get the printer and 2 heated chambers/ ams type systems with the printer instead of just one?
Im mostly curious to see if it is worth buying now or waiting for more reviews and buying closer to the end of the year. It seems like the price may get back close to this price by then seeing as the Kobra 3 Combo is still relatively close to the launch price.
Good video. I like the comparison which honestly is what most consumers do when choosing between two or more products. Hopefully we see long term reliability out of these competitors.
Nice! Orderd an S1. After you have some time with it, I'd love to see a time-lapse video from start to end. How about a video and ratings on 3D printed upgrades (i.e. side mount poop chute, ACE pro mounts, etc.); And for super mods, maybe how to add Ethernet (the Rockchip CPU supports it, unknown if there is a connector and/or driver for it), or a mod to move the display to the bottom side so it's not so high. Are there are Gcode startup mods that make it even better? For example, if you only make items that are 2" tall, perhaps a mod that the build plate doesn't home to the bottom for every print.
It’s nice to see some of the reasons why people might like this printer, and trusting that they’re all true. It’s just hard to really care about it without knowing why someone wouldn’t want to buy this printer. Or, knowing quality of prints.
Hopefully Elegoo will be releasing a multimaterial solution for the CC, at which point I'd LOVE to see a 4 way comparison of CMS, AMS, ACE and whatever Elegoo come out with. Until then maybe a single filament comparison of K1/2, P1S or X1, CC and S1.
Great video, I've been looking at this machine, I currently run a K1Max which is performing just fine. A full video on this machine would be good, covering things like build plate thickness, warping? Parts supply ie hot ends extruders ect... When I look at machines I also look at their support, while Creality is no king in that area, Bambu look like it is..?? Thanks for sharing with us!!! And, is Kobra looking at this machine in a bigger size???? All food for thought!
The problem with most companies that have been around for years never figured out that they need to offer good after sales support ei. parts and customer service. Which Bambu figured out right away and emplamented really well from day one.
Does their handling of purge still rely on it being done strictly by a setting on the printer, with the slicer having NO idea how much purge there will be, or have the addressed that, and handle purge through the slicer and settings in Orca? That was a deal-breaker for me on the Kobra 3, as I rely on that for tracking filament usage and making sure I have enough to actually finish a print.. From a 'farm' standpoint, that's a HUGE deal as well..
@@thenextlayer If it's like the Kobra 3, the purge is controlled by the printer firmware, NOT the settings in Orca/SlicerNext. The setting to control it is on the control panel. Since it's controlled by firmware and not software, you can't really estimate how much it's going to use, and that's a HUGE problem. I use purge objects frequently to mitigate some of that waste, but doing it on the Kobra 3 just used more filament, and still produced the exact same amount of waste as without those objects. That's definitely a show-stopper in my use case. It looks like the Creality color printers work more like the Bambu in that you can control the purge amounts, and can actually flush into objects.
I ordered day one and really I hope we get a hardened steel nozzle and different sizes really soon, I probably would have already ordered a .6 .2 and .4 in hardened steel had it been an option. Anycubic has always been pretty good about replacement parts.
Agreed. It was a MAJOR oversight to ship it with a brass nozzle... but to be fair, Prusa did the same thing with the Core ONE. I've already called them both about it. And, just to be safe, I already put in a call to Phaetus and E3D/Diamondback, so we should get aftermarket solutions, too :)
As well as this excellent suggestion.... "I think I speak for everyone when I say we want a separate review unsponsed by any brand whose product is being covered." This one might be hard, but it would be good if the printers could be acquired as we have to buy them and not one that has been picked and selected by the manufacture to send to you.
Can this one vent/novent automatically for ambient control? I keeps swapping between ASA and PLA... and if you forget to open the door... it makes a mess. I was thinking a Panda would let me add g-code to "open vent doors, hal," but Bambu... is trying to lock that down :(
I was excited about the about-to-release Elegoo CC, but this is even better. Unfortunately, I just had to buy a new oven, so a new printer is on hold for now, but who knows what exciting things will come next that might be even better?
At 12:53 you mentioned the max build plate temperatures for Bambu Lab and you said 100 or 110, but the specification shows 110C@220V and 120C@110V, so with certain voltages the temps are the same as in the Cobra.
I've always been hesitant to order gen 1 of anything. I've been burned many a time before I learned my lesson. I think that I'll wait until it has been on the market for a bit.
I'm intrested in buying the cobra s1 combo I would be really intrested in your unbiased opinnion of that machine cheers and thnx for the helpfull info videos
A full separate review would be appreciated, as it can reveal items that the sponsors may fail to mention or don't want mentioned such as with the KOBRA 3 the runout sensor is in the ace pro instead of at the extruder on multicolor/large prints where if tripped during a print with backup filament setting on will purge the 1-1.5m of filament in the Boden tube as poop droplets instead of using it like bambus
Thanks for watching! Let me know what you thought down here in the comments... and if you're considering picking this machine up, do it before the pre-sale special goes away 🤤shrsl.com/4txe9

Plus 1 for this.
While I love to dunk on Bambu, a sponsored video about a product of the sponsor is almost pointless.
Thanks for the feedback. I thought it was an interesting look at how they’ve tried to one up, but I hear you. This is how we learn
But you don't mind all the Prusa paid influencers bashing on Bambu. Right?
@ I think you're confusing bambu-paid influencers here. I received $0 from Prusa and never got anything for free, I still bashed Bambu after they decided to start gaslighting people.
I agree. Feels biased and sugar coated.
Agreed, I've been saying taht for a while now too
I really am glad bambu stepped into this market, its making companies i trust more to innovate more than they have been and given us printers that really are just amazing!
Please do a full review of the Kobra S1.
I would like a comparison video of the Kobra S1, Centauri Carbon, creality K2 + and the bambu P1S each with pros and cons
Add the Qidi to that list
The K2+ is far ahead of all the others and it costs way more, not a fair comparison
Well they had 2 years to copy it, I hoped it be better 🤣. I just hope the consumer wins.
I’m ok with this overall pre-review, I would appreciate another video sooner than later. Maybe a deep dive into the ACE system to see where the cost is being cut and doesn’t function as described. I’ve seen some content creators with issues and I don’t know if I trust them. Thanks for what you do. 👍👍
I'm gonna put like 200-250 hours on it and see how things go :)
As I pre ordered this as soon as presale went live I’m grateful to see more videos coming out and was hoping you would be putting one out!
This printer is entry level printer:
Anycubic as long as it exists struggled with warped beds, not very good extruders, loose belts, quality checks, loose connectors etc.

@mrsmitty91 I had mine for awhile until the auto level sensor died and the replacements did not work. Getting s1 and kobra max
No actual print tests comparing the two printers. In fact no printing at all! Other then that, a perfect overview.
Good point, didn't think to do print comparisons lol I was hyper-focused on features features features
+1, a perfect couch review!
@@thenextlayer Having watched MANY of your videos at this point, I find that somehow very hard to believe.....
That's how they make them so cheap. They can't do as much testing
@@daggerg8451 wouldn't say it's that cheap £830 for the printer and the 8 filament thing lol. Sorry forgot what it's called.. But that's also with a 24% early bird discount!
Anycubic has fantastic customer service. First hand experience its miles ahead of Bambus, they are terrible
Please do a real review!
@@julesadventures9174 Then I will stick to the OSS printers, because honestly I would rather self host most of the cloud features I need.
Xi Jinping, “Power Must be Caged by the System”, Qiushi, January 22, 2013:
“We should continue to catch ‘tigers’ as well as ‘flies’ when dealing with cases of leading officials in violation of Party discipline and state laws as well as misconduct and corruption problems that directly affect the people’s interests. All are equal before the law and Party discipline; whoever is involved in a corruption case must be thoroughly and impartially investigated.”
The results, after 12 years of Xi’s anti-corruption campaign?
“Corruption is RAMPANT in China!”
-Victor Gao, Al Jazeera, August 2024 in front of a live international audience.
Thank you for this. It makes me feel a lot better for cancelling my planned X1C purchase and pre-ordering the Kobra S1 combo.
Big Mistake, unless you're running a printing farm!
Any video proofing that bambu doesn't stand out on the market makes me happy.
Love the ‘plumbus’ you have there. So many uses around the home! ☺
I will say I love my X1C. These new printers are great, and I just cant imagine WTH Bambu is thinking with all these lockdowns when so many are coming out with real competition. Its like they want to just fail and shut down.
What is locked down. I have every Bambu but the X1C. They all work as I purchased them.
No point watching a sponsored comparison video
The filament dryer is great, but does it get hot enough to dry nylon etc?
I haven't checked actually... I'll need to.
No, it only heats to 55 degrees C, so not enough temperature for Nylon.
I purchased an anycubic kobra 2 pro last year. Nearly 0 maintenence, just as fast as a bambu, and same quality. I absolutely love that machine.
This info was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for making it!
Got the S1 Combo for 440€, it will arrive in March. There are not a lot of reviews out there and some seem to have older software and profiles that have since been improved.

Thanks for being real clear on the disclosure. I definitely want an unbiased review! I wanna find the perfect X1C killer!
Thanks, I'll consider doing a review, but probably I will review 4-5 machines (or more) at a time. What do you think about that?
Tried to buy one last week as my first printer and the delivery was expected to be in the last week of April (in the UK). That ruled it out for me. Ended up buying a secondhand Flashforge AD5M Pro locally for next to nothing. Bed isn't as big as I'd like and obviously no auto multi-material but it looks like it'll sort my needs until I look again later in the year.
flashforge makes flawless printers
@@3DATHENS-qi1tu Too early in my journey to know that but I do know that at the equivalent of $200 for something that had printed for 90 hours and came with 6 assorted (some partially used) spools of PLA, it was an absolute bargain. I've actually only printed the test 20mm cube which it started after I'd configured it and couldn't believe the quality of it using some random flourescent yellow PLA that was already fitted to the printer. Now just need to find somewhere to put it.
Anycubic missed the opportunity to offer a bigger build volume in that enclosure
Maybe they still will?
Great job. Comprehensive and pro-quality seldom matched.
Thanks for being upfront and honest.
I really apreciate this!
Thanks for presenting this new printer. It does look very compelling and I look forward to a review of this printer once you've had more time with it.
@@bob218 Uncle Jessy did a sponsored review on it
I would love to know how this printer compares to Bambu in terms of dimensional precision and accuracy.
Thanks for the very clear beginning. I wish all sponsored videos would be as explicit about conflicts of interest.
For your review video I'd really like to see your take on the ceramic extruder system coming in the S1. Hard to say whether it's good/better/worse than the competition right now as it doesn't seem like anybody else is using ceramic gears on filament printers.
Extraordinarily great and detailed video!
Great program
Question I have a medium harvest Right freeze dryer. Anyway I
would like to maybe get a 3 D
printer and make a 11 1/2 inch
circular plate for the freeze dryer.
My question is. There is no template for this and I need to
make it myself. Would it be a way
to do it. Or is a big deal.
Thanks
Very excited for a full review of this printer
I’m going to look for more info but this might be my second 3D printer!
is it possible to upgrade from 4 colors to 8
if I order first version with 4 colors and is it complicated or it is just plugin in and upgrade ready to go?
Yeah it supports 8 colors you just add another ACE Pro, attach it on
Any idea if aftermarket printbeds will work on this like they do for the Elegoo Centauri?
The BBL print beds are a couple millimeters off on the sides, but they'll definitely work.
15:24 256 cubed definitely smacks of 'me too'. Why not go to 300mm?
THX for another interesting vid! 👍
I will also like to see a non-sponsored review, but so far I love what I see from Anycubic and with the total and ridiculous lack of support from Bambu Lab, I will seriously consider Anycubic as my next one!
@@thenextlayer I just googled this, seems like they use Kobra OS which is based on Klipper.
Question. The Kobra S1 combo has 2 options. Is it saying I can get the printer and 2 heated chambers/ ams type systems with the printer instead of just one?
I think you can, yeah. It supports having 2 ACE Pro's
Would like to know what parts they use. I can't see that big of a difference in price with similar parts to the similar prusa and bambu options
Love to see this compared to the P1S and and Qidi (either max or pro), as well as any newer printers in this class I haven't heard about yet.
i have been waiting for this for so long
A long term independent review is always appreciated but understandable it will take some time. Ty
I also ordered the S1 and the AD5X as an early bird. I’m waiting for both printers now. I’m very curious how they work
Ouch. I finally just ordered a P1S to move on from my Ender 3 Pro. Those looks like some good improvements.
The P1S is a great printer, but I hope you're ready for the pain when the AMS gets jammed, lol.
@thenextlayer 😔
Good point. I think it purges how much it wants because I adjusted the setting and it still purged SO much.
"I think I speak for everyone when I say we want a separate review unsponsed by any brand whose product is being covered."
This one might be hard, but it would be good if the printers could be acquired as we have to buy them and not one that has been picked and selected by the manufacture to send to you.
Why do you need an oven? Get the printer, the heat bed goes up to 120C... that's a two-fer!
At 12:53 you mentioned the max build plate temperatures for Bambu Lab and you said 100 or 110, but the specification shows 110C@220V and 120C@110V, so with certain voltages the temps are the same as in the Cobra.
Correct, I misspoke, thanks for bringing that to my attention. I'm on 230V here in Israel, so my machine goes to 110. My bad.
I've always been hesitant to order gen 1 of anything. I've been burned many a time before I learned my lesson. I think that I'll wait until it has been on the market for a bit.
I'm intrested in buying the cobra s1 combo
I would be really intrested in your unbiased opinnion of that machine cheers and thnx for the helpfull info videos
