    Hiya. Get yourself a decent headlamp. So much more practical than a torch. Great for walking incase you ever need to move quickly after dark. Also get some waterproof socks. It doesn't matter how your boots feel with waterproof socks.
    Great video's. Keep it up.

    Sod what anyone else thinks! If it works it works - who cares if it’s proper or not! As long as you wake up the next morning, it’s never a serious mistake and it’s part of the fun of wild camping, blazing your own trail. For safety I keep a torch and headlamp for safety but my camp is only lit by a UCO lantern, which kicks out a surprising amount of light for a single candle. Makes it look more cozy. I think for the weight cost, I’d rather just stick a tarp over my tent/bivvy as it’s easier to dry the tarp than the whole tent. Just bought the OEX expedition tarp but now I’ve seen it in videos, the pack size seems huge compared to the cheap tarp I bought off Amazon! Really good video, thanks for sharing! It’s not the destination, it’s the journey! A great experience doesn’t have to end in a particular place, it’s about the fun of being out in the wild!

    But what an epic 3 miles, nice camp spot, good food, you slept well and had fun. One thing though be careful spraying insect repellent on your waterproof as some can damage the waterproofness of your jacket. Really nice area great drone shots along the stream.

  • @mikecoward3949
    @mikecoward3949 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi lilu. Great video and you are doing great too. I would recommend some things. If you had a larger tarp you could set it up so it covers your tent and gives you an admin area. By having the tarp over your tent if it rains only the tarp gets wet you can pack away a dry tent and only have to dry the tarp which will dry very quickly.
    Or do away with the tent and use your bivvy bag with the tarp. A 3x3m tarp is great

    You are quite right with your attitude towards the people who will tell you your doing it all wrong. Your having fun and learning. Lighting and maintaining a wood fire, either on the ground or in a box is challenging and we will let you in on a secret…even the seasoned YT bushcrafters are bringing some sort of firelighters with them. Cos it’s a long night when the fire doesn’t light😉

    You're having fun, and it works, so you are doing it right. For the midges, I would urge you get a midge head net, and some long fingerless lycra gloves (I think cyclists use them but great for stopping the wee b*stards.) Citronella tea light candles are brilliant for in the tent. You also may want to look at getting a pair of gaiters to help keep boots dry, especially if crossing streams walking through bogs. When packing a wet tent is a good idea to pack the outer in a separate stuff sack, have it easy to get to in the rucsac, that way you can take it out and let it dry a bit every time you stop for a wee strategic cuppa. Excellent video!

  • @Dutcharmytent
    @Dutcharmytent ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I use a cheap camo tarp for sitting under and extend it over the tent so the tent packs up dry. I use an alloy two pole spreader from Temu each end with some old tent poles I had laying around, the three part steel ones. it’s amazing how you just shake off the rain from the old tarp, it’s 3x3. After years of avoiding. Ready meals, I gave in and brought a ready made meal for just over £5 from the Steak Detective. It’s steak, dumplings and carrots and you just heat up in the packet in boiling water. I have a brilliant meths Swedish Army Stove..I love your videos solely because you are a beginner and that no one else does this.

    @Adventures with lilu well done !! lovely little camp.. carrying a pack that heavy , 4 miles up a mountain !!! Is an achievement... I camped up at kinda down a cpl of weeks ago and the noise of those planes, when your up there is extraordinary !!.. put dubbing on your boots to improve waterproofness.... carry a cpl of those disposable hand warmers in your first aid kit.. they are so versatile. As soon as you can take your wet boots off ,, pop the hand warmers in and in the morning ,, warm dry boots... the warmers work on contact with air so if you have hardly used them put them in an air tight and they will turn off till next time... put a disposable foil flan case thing under you twig stove and no-one can claim you scorched the earth..... play safe and shine on xxx

    As others have said, look into a headlamp as well. Very nice having both hands free and still able to see at night. Even in the house I walk around with an Olight i1r2 light (around $20 here in the US on Amazon, should be cheap there in the UK as well) attached to a tiny carabiner that I clip to a zipper. It's so light in weight, I don't even know it is there while walking around. 😁 It's rechargable only, no batter. Some other mini lights have batteries.
    Please do not feel insecure about what you're doing, the nitpicking "pros" whining can go kick rocks. 😉 We are always learning, even the pros don't do EVERYthing perfectly. Anyone with a bit of mental maturity knows that and doesn't have high expectations, especially from someone who is new.
    As usual, a great video from you and, again, that music is freaking amazing, especially at the end. Dang girl I love your taste. 😄 \o/

    Enjoyed watching your video, something I could never be bothered to do with all the walking back for the camera, editing etc etc. Thank you. Quite fascinating really watching someone new to the outdoors not actually making a complete pigs ear of it, well done! When I was 14, 15 years old I used to spend a lot of time in the Hayfield, Kinder Downfall, Edale area and your film brought back many happy memories from 61 years ago. A bit of obvious advice from an old man which might be useful: as you were carrying trekking poles why not use them for balance crossing the stream? I suppose you have to hold the camera with one hand, but you still have another hand to hold a walking pole.

    I may have put that grill on top of the bars, more air would mean less smoke. But other than the green wood you cut off you did pretty good for only your third 'wild' camp. I've been camping my whole life and don't think I'd have done anything different! Keep it up! Bread bags are a good solution for wet boots. A few in a zipper bag weigh next to nothing and keep your feet warm on day 2! Also good for dish rags and wet socks!

    It may not be right but as long as it’s right for you that’s all that matters. Love watching your videos the only thing I can comment on is the tarp if I were you I would get at least a 2m x2m But if you can afford to get a 3m x3 m that is what I would get gives you loads of options even to the point of making shelters. More than happy to answer any questions I can I’m no expert myself but if I don’t know an answer I usually know where to find it lol

    Hi Lilu
    I read in Trail magazine a few years back that if you have a shot of Whiskey/Whisky every night the week before you go on a hike it keeps the midges away, something to do with excreting the drink through the pores of you skin that they don't like, I don't know if it works as I've never tried it but I will be trying it next week if the weather keeps warm, even if it doesn't work it's an excuse for a tipple.
    Looks like you had a great time again (apart from the midges), great video, stay safe, stay free.

    Well alright by me. Some people get really an*l about it all, but they'd be like that in life anyway camping or no. I forget there's hills down there. Living on a Fell - good song title for an 80's hair band - I get passing mists and rain clouds almost daily - but no biggie. I'm sweltering at the moment with this heat - fan on all day and night. In summer i mostly use a thin sleeping bag and even just a liner as sleep very hot. To keep boots dry may I suggest a carrier bag and stuff with microfibre towels.

    You are doing really well reminds me of my Marine days on Dartmoor. I allways used a Swedish Trangia meths stove, but we allways find a stove we like. Allways a pleasure to watch your adventures. Stay safe x

    U are making the right desisions at the right time, enjoy loads of whole new adventures, go out ur comfort zone, you'll never regret, but you'll always learn. Did u adjust ur pak length to fit ur body length?

      Yeh iv tried but I may look at a better fitting bag.. it might just be too long for me being unisex. It feels OK but just heavy lol

    Always remember its your adventure you do it your way.i take citronella incense sticks when the midges are out also smidge repellent is the best ive found also they do midge nets.another tip get a spongi and wipe your tent down its amazing how much weight the water adds on a wer tent.

    I am really enjoying watching your videos. Love the drone footage, and you are very natural in front of the camera.
    May I ask what make your red and black trousers are?
