How the ICC bared its teeth - and caught the West off guard | Defence in Depth

- Karim Khan, chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), is seeking the arrest of three of Hamas’ top commanders but also Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the defence minister Yoav Gallant.
For those that support the ICC and its chief prosecutor, this demonstrates that the court is not simply an instrument of Western power - it shows that everybody is equal before the law, and that’s important for impartiality and credibility.
But for Israel and some of its western allies, the warrant application is an outrage. It shows that the court has lost its way; drawing an unjustified parallel between the armed terrorist group Hamas and Israel - a democracy defending itself from unjustified attack.
The application has forced Western nations to pick a stance - to abide by a warrant, should one be issued, or ignore it and risk shredding the credibility of the institution.

The ICC ruling showed us 2 things:

- The West doesn't see it that way. They really only see the ICC as an arm to go after their enemies and not their own.
The only thing ICC ruling has showed thus far is that no one cares about its ruling. There is no law if u cannot enforce it.

It isn’t independent at all. It’s a tool of Islamic autocrats.

The USA thinks this is controversial, since their supreme court is based on politics.
They thought it was like that everywhere in the world.
But is South Africa really in a position of moral superiority on human rights? Its like having an international court of financial fraud based on Wall Street.

I've noticed this thing where media outlets have a sort of schizophrenia across different media channels. For instance, Christian Amanpour's CNN show (based in London and the CNN's flagship show on foreign affairs, and which is pushed a lot on podcasts to people outside of the USA) is so wildly different from the CNN on American TV that it is almost comical. It's like they know their target market on one media format is different to what it is on another format, so they will completely change their tone to appeal to that audience...

I've noticed this with Aljazeera arabic which is totally different from Aljazeera English.
@@kurdistanijunior is it honest in arabic?
@@1Q84-zi7yk
The Arabic version is more islamist. For example when people in Gaza die they say he or she was martyred but in the English language they say killed. Also, they narrate stories or opinions only according to the ikhwani version which is the Islamist political party in the Arab world and they often make fun of other Muslims who do not subscribe to that ideology, but in the English language they are careful not to alienate their non Muslim audience in America and Europe.
Why is it massively controversial?
Cause the west doesn't like it when someone threatens consequences for their actions
Because it is about Israel, as simply as that.
Because these "courts" are only ever used to attack the only state for Jews.
Because the West think that this is akin to arresting and judging God himself. Inconceivable that the "absolute good" Israel has committed any evil
I wouldn't call it controversial but surprising given the amount of effort Benjamin Mileikowsky put into intimidating these judges.
The notion that a self-declared moral state cannot commit immoral acts is laughable to say the least.
This is akin to someone declaring themselves a good Christian while hoping for people who disagree with their beliefs to suffer and die except of course in this case The government in question is actually actively doing the killing and not just hoping for it.
It's a war.
