Not only was Chin the boss of the Genovese Family, he was the top power on the Commission, and influenced organized crime across the country. He was respected in the streets. Tough guys were afraid to even speak his name. For almost 30 years he ducked heavy jail sentences by acting crazy. And when the Feds finally took him down, his family was the strongest and most financially diverse, with the fewest informants. Chin is probably a top 5 boss of all time.

Most people understood that Fat Tony was only the "front" boss, and that Chin was the actual boss. But Rudy was snookered, just like he was snookered by freaking Borat. Rudy was just wrong about this. Chin wasn't really picked up on wire taps himself and nobody was allowed to mention his name so I'm not sure where he gets this from.
The bottom line is he was a Capo and in the administration for many years and then he was the boss during the 80s. I'll take Michael Franzese and Sammy Gravano's word for it who actually met with him and were in LCN over Rudy's. I think this is his ego talking. Chin went down in the end but he did a pretty good job of fooling law enforcement and avoiding getting caught on tape for a long time.

LOL I just spent 4 hours reading various criminal cases from the federal government's database. I swear..this might sound odd, but when you hear stories of crime on platforms like this, it sounds entertaining. But when you read this stuff in indictments, it's sad...the state attorneys and judges definitely have a way of making crime seem unappealing. Reading page after page of these mafia guys' federal indictments is making me feel sorrow for the entire world. These guys literally were murdering people who they could have worked it out with by talking..all over money..and then when they got caught, they tried to get out of it by blaming other people or taking deals. Please make this lifestyle continue to look ugly, Mike. I just read all about how the Mafia in the 80s threatened and bullied construction companies.."Im Paul Castellano, my sons build houses, so if you dont lower the prices on building materials, I might feel insulted"..And these guys LITERALLY become IN FEAR FOR THEIR LIVES..and their FAMILY'S lives...to the point where they don't know what to do. They are SCUMBAGS, stop making ém look cool! Think about how many people went to sleep at night thinking they were going to DIE the next day because the Commission wanted to extort the business they just so happened to be in. Fareal. Pat, you never lived this criminal lifestyle..probably never even been effected by violence in your life. Add a disclaimer Bro. Don't Profit or make this entertainment for the sake of an income stream my guy. The people might think this is amusing instead of sad.

Interesting you put this short clip episode up on "The Chin." A week ago on The MBA and the Button Man podcast, episode #86, I put up a post about The Chin. First he had the be intelligent and extremely committed to put on that theatrical act for years while heading one of the most powerful mafia families on Earth (I suspect the Chicago Outfit and NYC Genovese were on par and the 2 most powerful in the USA). However, I ponder if the non-don-like conduct of the Chin signified the decline of Cosa Nostra USA and NOT John Gotti? It's a thought not a hard conclusion.

What I posted--or 1 of 2 that I posted--on #86 episode of The MBA and the Button Man. Last week, copied and paste:
(Contrasting and comparing is often used in "critical thinking.")
From article titled "Spotlight Starting to Dim for Deal-Maker..."
His biggest case was taking down reputed mob boss Frank Balistrieri for tax evasion.
"I remember him as being a short, extraordinarily well-dressed, extraordinarily well-groomed guy," Gimbel said. "When he looked at you, you felt like he was measuring you for the box."
Frank Gimble was speaking about his time as a prosecutor (lawyer).
      Dictionary term from Oxford Languages:
      "dig·ni·fied
      /ˈdiɡnəˌfīd/
      "adjective
"having or showing a composed or serious manner that is worthy of respect."
      The song "crazy" th-cam.com/video/-N4jf6rtyuw/w-d-xo.html
If The Chin, the former chief of the legitimately mighty Genovese mafia family, were sitting beside the former chief of the Milwaukee mafia family in court, and both on trial we would hope he would not stand up and start singing that song "crazy."

It was a secret society, what the rest of the world thought of them was of no concern. People thought chins main mentor was Vito genovese but it was really highly secretive boss Phil Lombardo who no one knows anything about. I assume chin learnt this behavior from him and had to change with the times. Back in the day they had to catch u red handed, in chins time they could give u life just for being the boss.

    • @brewcity2317
      @brewcity2317 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@mateocalderon6822, for a secret society so many "civilians" seem to have known who the bosses of every mafia family in every city of the USA.
Other mafia bosses in the USA didn't wander the streets of their city disheveled, talking to themselves. Now, I have to admit doing that was brilliant and for 30 years tool tremendous dedication! Props to the Chin for that.
On the other hand... if a don doesn't wear shorts (LOL) then a don certainly doesn't wander the streets mumbling to himself in a bathrobe. I read it as a FEAR to go to prison. Understandable. But such a fear does not give off the appearance of invincibility nor fearlessness. I spot a weak point in your armor and then army up with the FBI a gang the Chin does fear.
Hey! I DON'T blame the Chin for having had a fear of being thrown decades behind bars. Most sane people that place high value on their lives, freedom, good food, beaches, parks, and loved ones DO have a RATIONAL fear of doing decades in prison.
Anyways, equally important in all of this is that I could be very wrong about "what a don of a crime family should not do." I'm no veteran of that life. Hell... I was never an apprentice or intern of that life. I'm just a Joe Blow armchair quarterback with an impression or opinion.
      Peace! ✌

@@brewcity2317 at that time every boss in nyc got 100 years just for being the boss, except for chin. I think he admitted it was a fear of going to jail and that's also the reason he never got into drugs. Him and his mentor Vito genovese got framed for a crime they didn't do and received a lengthy prison term. After that I think he decided he had to do something differently. Chin saw himself as one of the last enforcers of Cosa nostra, maybe he thought if he went to jail it would fall apart without him and that's why he thought it was so important to stay out of jail.

I don't think it's cool to have your neighborhood in fear of drug-dealing criminals who intimidate people through murder...When it really happens, it leaves people's worlds rocked. Think about how you feel every time you hear about a mass shooting..that gut punch..That's what it's like to some innocent family member every time these guys decide to make a move. It's sad. If your family member were to get killed in front of you as a result of some criminal activity, you'd be psychologically damaged...saddened and depressed..But when it happens on a tv screen or far away from you, it's easy to think of it as entertainment. So everyone is lying except Giuliani? Right. I suspect Giuliani is just embarrassed because he thought Tony Salerno was the boss and he doesn't want to admit he was duped. I saw a clip from the early 1980's where Jimmy the Weasel Fratianno said he was in a meeting with his own boss and the leadership of the Genovese family and he said it consisted of Funzi Tieri, Chin and Tony Salerno. At the time this clip was made, Chin was referred to as a Genovese soldier but if he was merely a soldier, why would Funzi Tieri and Tony Salerno have him at this meeting? All the evidence suggests that Chin was really the boss and the Genovese family was letting people outside the family think Funzi Tieri or Tony Salerno were calling the shots. Even Fratianno thought Tieri was the boss.
