    That is very true about cars being scrapped for immobiliser problems, that's what happened to my 2004 Vauxhall Combo van a few months ago. In fact I have wondered if immobilisers were introduced for that very reason, more cars scrapped, more new replacement cars sold.

    The PScan box was the best piece of kit I’ve bought for my MGRs; it paid for itself on the first use when I diagnosed a fault that I could then fix myself rather than have to get the codes read by an ex-MGR dealer. Plus it can reset the oil service interval on a Chinese TF.

  • @mgjohn8534
    @mgjohn8534 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Good to see this. Informative for those who simply don't know what's available. Pscan impressive.
    With loads of MGs and Rovers in the family and friends' fleets, ten years ago I bought a T300 Programmer. Cost over a hundred quid but, it works on a whole range of other cars not just Rovers and MGs. Lost count of those Remote Fobs I've programmed for our cars ~ some have three working fobs now with the Family MG ZS runabout as we all use that car.
    By the way. That well known Sod's Law ~ if you only have ONE remote fob, get another sharpish as if you lose one ...you are carless until its fixed.
    Nephew bought an MGTF recently and the previous owner had lost one of the fobs. Soon after now has two. The T300 has paid for itself many times over with the range of facilities and programmes it can do on cars. Often saving a nice few quid too.

    EKA (emergency key access) is a temporary override incase of RF lockout, flat fob batteries etc. To resynch a fob you should only need to discharge the fob & then press unlock 5 times. Thats it. If it doesn't work beyond that then you have a problem (duff fob, alarm ecu fault, RF lockout etc). They're actually quite simple & robust.

    Great to see this Matt, now before you go much further put the sump plug back in and fill the engine up with a gallon and a half of diesel and let it sit for a day or two,then take the plugs out and wind it over until the oil light goes out repeat this several times and leave it to sit for another day or so and then drain out all the remaining effluent! Leave the sump plug out until its stoped dripping totally,then you can fill with cheep 10/40 semi and start the beast up,best to make certain that The cooling system is drained before you start it up good luck.

      Good question Matt the only thing that might be hurt is the head gasket sealing rubbers but its shot anyway so no loss there and it's the best way of cleaning out any remaining gunk, and cheaper than any flush on the market.

That is one thing with your Volvo 740 and my 240. Great aftermarket support. Also, if worst comes to worst, the Red Block can be taken back all the way to points and condenser ignition an a single side draught Zenith or SU carburetor. Just need parts for a European or Canadian market 240 DL up to 83.

      I often wonder why houses don't have central locking. Maybe even an immobiliser so they can't be stolen either. :-)

    I am the type of guy who loathes seeing old cars go, when they only need a small tweak just to keep going.
    Instead of compressing them into a cube of junk - why not try something like this?
    I have wondered myself as well; I got one factory (presumably) key with a button for central locking, and another one that has a chip to work with the immobilizer, no remote unlocks. . . do I need to harbor a healthy level of paranoia for my immobilizer as well? Would absolutely be in a pickle if one day the system would prevent me from driving the one true junky sh*tbox I love.
    Love seeing the 200 VI now one step closer to being back on the road!

      With this you can code a new key and be saved if the original one dies on you

    I wish this had been available when I had my 800. If the immobiliser hadn't gone haywire I would still have it 😢

    Out of curiosity, if you wanted to use a modern looking key fob, could this be done?

    • @furiousdriving

      I dont think so, unless you could make one with the buttons in precisely the same spot

      @@furiousdriving I guess on that basis you could take the internals out and make a custom one 🤔

    Is the pscan good for Rover 75 Matt?

    • @furiousdriving
      @furiousdriving  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, that’s new enough to use standard OBD

    • @tides2002
      @tides2002 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it looks like Pscan will interrogate most of the main ECU’s in 75

      @philip_christian 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@furiousdriving Standard OBD will only communicate with the engine ECU, and on many of the diesel 75s it won't communicate with the car at all. pscan will do way, way more on a Rover 75 (all the engines, ABS, airbags, body controller etc) than OBD.

    Does this pscan work on Honda powered R8s? The site is not helpful. Love the video as always.

      If they have the MEMS ECU - you need to find out what your car is running
