Dash Egg Cooker any good? Steam Eggs 3 Ways

  • We tried the Dash Rapid Egg Cooker, which is basically an egg steamer. If you want to check out the current price for the Dash Egg Cooker on Amazon, here is our affiliate link amzn.to/2D975IV The quick egg cooker model we reviewed can “boil” 1-6 eggs at a time. In addition to cooking soft, medium, or hard-boiled eggs, you can also make an easy omelet, which was really more like an egg scramble. The best feature of the egg cooker was for poaching eggs, since it can poach two eggs perfectly quicker than you can boil a pot of water. The egg steamer I tried didn’t have an alarm, but the newer model Dash egg cookers do, and they are pretty well rated over on Amazon.

    Dash Go Rapid Egg Cooker
    Why buy this egg cooker?
    1) Good for a quick egg dish for 1 to 2 people.
    2) Great for poaching 2 eggs pretty fast.
    3) Sturdy build for a gadget, and not too expensive.
    4) No muss, no fuss boiled eggs.
Why you don’t need this egg cooker:
    1) Not practical for preparing eggs for more than 2 people at a time.
    2) The omelets are more like egg scrambles.
    3) Other than poaching 2 eggs, it’s not particularly “rapid”.
    4) If you currently have a stove, a pot, and a pan, then you can already cook eggs any way you want...so do you need a new gadget taking up space in the kitchen?
Cleaning Up the Dash Egg Cooker
It’s a pretty hassle free clean up. The base of the Dash egg cooker is electric and not safe to put in a dishwasher or submerge under water. You might get some staining on the heating pad from egg residue, but add just a splash of vinegar and it wipes right off. The omelet tray, poaching tray, boiled-egg holder, and steaming dome are all dishwasher and sink safe, so wash accordingly.
    Dash Egg Cooker Conclusion
I’m not a kitchen gadget guy, because I’d rather have free counter and cabinet space, but overall I have to give the Dash egg cooker a thumbs up. It’s not TOO big, it’s not overly junky in its construction, and it does a good job cooking eggs. If you like gadgets, then this device is not a total rip-off. I can see where it would be useful to someone wanting a quick egg without a lot of hassle.

It's an ok kitchen gadget, but I generally prize counter and cabinet space over task specific gadgets. My mom has so many gadgets crowding her kitchen that it's frustrating--at least for me! My weak spot for gadgets is for coffeemakers, but even coffee can be made easily with a pot on the stove top. Do you own a must-have gadget? My top 3 gadgets would be 1)French Press 2)Moka Pot 3)Hand Blender

Buck I think you're being a bit unfair to the little dookickey. Items like these are great for people who don't particularly enjoy cooking the way you do. This is one of those things where you set it up and then go get ready in the morning while it cooks your breakfast for you. It's not designed for high quality, 5 star dining, it's designed for convenience and time management. You aren't the target audience for something like this.

I went into this video thinking I wouldn't have too much good to say about the little steamer, but I did find it to be kinda handy, and I have used it a couple of times since making this video. I thought the poaching effect was pretty good, since you can easily steam a couple of eggs quicker than boiling a pot of water, but steaming "boiled" eggs might be the best part, since they do seem to peel easier after steaming...peeling boiled eggs can be a pain, so I generally use older eggs for boiling, but steaming seems to make even fresher eggs easier to peel

I made it fine without one of these for over 40 years and didn't intend to purchase one....BUT, my daughter got my attention when she told me how easy it is to remove the shells of fresh eggs. In all my years I've never been able to peel a fresh egg without it looking like I had put through a chopper to do it. I got mine today and found this video to explain how this little jewel works.. I did not have to think about them worry about them it’s like they cook them selves when they’re done it turns off , they are either ready to eat or ready to go to work with me. If I never used it for anything else but hard boiling eggs it would be a timesaver and efficient use. I love making omelets in the Dash egg cooker. However, I was concerned that the omelet and poaching cups didn't say "BPA free". It does say >pp< which is polypropylene, supposedly safe for high heat.
Not entirely convinced, I ordered some 5" x 1" silicone tart molds on Amazon. They fit perfectly in the egg cooker. An excellent alternative to the included PP plastic.

I bought one for myself and each member of my family(2 grown kids and one for my mother, my daughter doesn’t do eggs so she lost out). Yes it is a gadget, but a great gadget! I use it every weekend for soft boiled eggs. I make hard boiled eggs for the week or for deviled eggs. What I like is I don’t have to get out pots, it has am alarm so I can be doing something else while eggs are cooking. The eggs always come out perfect. I have learned to adjust water to right where I need so soft boiled are not over cooked.
Side note my daughter in law and son wore out there first one, so I am going to purchase them a 14 egg cooker.
It is great for Keto. I can chop up omelette fixings the night before, and put in Dash while I’m getting vitamins and coffee for the day.

Some of the reviews I read on Amazon mention an alarm, but the unit I used doesn't have an alert sound--the instructional booklet makes no mention of an alarm either, so I think it's just an older model--the light simply clicks off when the steamer is finished, it makes a teeny-tiny clicking sound that is barely noticeable...I can see where having an alarm would be an improvement, although the reviews seem to complain the alarm is now too loud

Chef Buck, I have the egg cooker by Dash. Mine can do 12 eggs.I use mine at least once a week for hard boiled eggs. The one thing great about this is that you can make your eggs without babysitting a pot on the stove so you can do other things while it's preparing these. I probably wouldn't make them as often with out this. I do have the newer one with the alarm when the eggs are done. It's easy to put away when you're done, easy to clean, and if you want to ensure your eggs are cooked the way you want them, then this is for you. I don't leave mine on the counter top unless I'm using it. Glad to see you using one and hope you'll use it oftener for hard boiled eggs--so much easier to peel when they are steamed. Enjoyed your video! Have a great day!

I have been using elec egg cookers since the 1950's. Tips: pierce egg by pushing it down on "spike," use the handle tohelp hold eggs under water to cool down then put in cold water or put in a container & rereig right away. Some have sliding lever so you can cook egg to doneness desired, some have measuring/piercing cup which indicates how much water to use for # of eggs. Let cooker cool down before making anothe batch. Best reasons to use: no pot to watch or clean, make eggs shile doing somethingg else. Now double decker cookers are availale in 12/14 egg capacity. They can be used in single level if you desire. HB eggs keep well in frig. PS: buy by features, not cost. Most are best used with large eggs. For smaller or (xlg if they fit macine), adjust water or timer depending on machine.

I feel my water to just below medium and the brussel sprouts come out just right. Whether making eggs or brussel sprouts, I don't have to pay attention to anything going on. It is rapid. No waiting for the water to boil then waiting for the egg to hard boil. You also get consistency with the type you want. Which is harder with a stove top if you're not experienced.
    You, in fact, save time.

I think this is more for travelers, van lifers, etc. not so much a home cook situation. The beauty here is that for the omelet and the poached egg you can walk away from it where as with stove top you have to baby sit the eggs. Yes the new ones hava an alarm. (Recently purchased one, by the way)

    • @ChefBuckRecipes

I used an instapot a few times last summer...my sister let me borrow hers since we were house sitting at a place where the kitchen stove was on the fritz...I wanted to make an instapot video, but I never got around to making anything too interesting or video worthy in the pot...I thought it was a kinda nifty appliance since you could brown stuff in the instapot just like a pot on the stove, but once the actual stove was fixed, I didn't use it anymore...next time I go to my sister's, I should talk her into letting me video her cooking a dish in the instapot

Came here to watch again as a refresher for using my Dash 3 in 1 Everyday Egg Cooker. Love this mini appliance for Boiled Eggs and Omelets but hadn't tried the Poaching feature before (until now). I'm sure it will cook perfectly like the Boiled Eggs do. 👍. As always, love your Videos ❤ 🎉

Good for fitness if you just boil em. Easy minimal cleaning.
    Time efficient.
    I don't own many appliances
    Ninja blender.
    Dehydrater for jerky.
    Air fryer and microwave.
If i intend to cook properly i use a skillet or a wok.
Boiled eggs everyday with a cherry tomato is cheap and easy.
Boiling eggs is easy but if you don't intend on using this appliance everyday.
    Its not for you.

I looked at an egg hard for a couple of minutes. And nothing? But you said. This thing is literally $10.00. and works better than just looking at them. It also steams veggies. Definitely bringing mine to my next venture. Yeah beer helps too! Beer and eggs why not.

I think a steamer preserves nutrients better than a microwave if the minute time difference won't make one late for work lol. Also, am considering becoming an air b&b in the near future & your video made me think What A Great Thing To Put In A B&B!!

Hello Chef Buck, diggin the video. I recently saw Andrew Zimmern on tv in the Philippines. They showed a really interesting and what looked to be really delicious food. It’s called Babingka.
