The final task of a recruit is the Crucible, a 54-hour event at Camp Pendleton allowing the recruit only 8-hours of sleep and minimal food they must ration. The Reaper is the final part of the Crucible, a 9-mile hike that upon completion means the end of the Crucible and their receiving of their Eagle, Globe and Anchor which means they have officially become United States Marines.
