I appreciate your words. My wife and I realized a year or so ago that we needed to make the move abroad and start living as we are supposed to. No more keeping up with the Jones, no more having to have the latest 'stuff", time to slow down and experience life as it is. Moving permanently to Los Cabos, purchased a home a few months ago.

Hi, I just found your channel; Im mexican, I live in North Mexico, (actually like 8 blocks from US) I like your words and feelings; I really think that living abroad, (wherever you decide to do it) really help you to grow from inside, because you are more objective about your own country, and to feel more respect for other coultures, (I wish more politicians and powerful people all around the globe decide to living aboad at least for a few months). Again, well done, good luck

I agree with this 💯. Living in other countries makes you realize that the world is big, but it’s also small. We are more alike than we realize.
And our differences may teach us something.

This gentleman is very smart, there's another youtuber that's similar, but he's Argentinan living in Guadalajara (his channel is Viviendo el Sueño Mexicano). He built his own home and talks alot of sense like this gentleman about money, schools, homes, quality of life. I'm impressed with how wise Mr. Cartress talks about all the concerns a parent would have, he's so right in everything. He's like the nice uncle everyone wants. Congratulations on your channel, as a native mexican, I'd say bienvenidos a mexico. 😀

We went through the process in Atlanta for temp residency. The hardest part was getting an appointment. Then we were going to go to Mexico on vacation for 2 weeks to get the second part done and found out that would have been impossible. So, we are retiring in March of 23 to San Cristobal de las Casas, so we are going back to Atlanta to start all over again. This way we will already be living there when we do the second part in Mexico. Long process ! We are 60 and 55 and thus too young for social security so we have to show assets.

Merida has many advantages..one is that is a quiet city...the moment you arrive you feel that stress-free environment...of course it's always an advantage to know the language where you planning to stay...people is friendly and ready to provide help...also another advantage is when you feel bored you can always visit those nearby tourist areas such as Cancun...Playa del Carmen...Tulum... Cozumel...lsla mujeres...lm glad you found your way and realized that things will be easier if you learn Spanish to talk to locals or conduct business as well...the best way to assimilate a culture is to get immerse in the same culture..when in Rome do like the Romans... Bienvenido a Mérida es una ciudad hermosa y cerca a todo lo demás...mucha suerte...!!! 👋🇲🇽

I feel your pain, jejeje... Lots of humidity/moisture here due to the tropical region.. Combined with extreme heat in this region, it's difficult to 'enclose' things. Also, many foreigners arrive here with very few things and like to keep bulky items to a minimum until they find their 'forever home'. Many continue to travel and not stay in one place long enough to justify the spend.

We homeschool our own kids... In many instances, there's not a place u take them to 'for homeschooling', although there are co-op programs where kids may meet up for certain projects or school assignments. This is changing those where folks are putting programs together and are having 'mini-schools' where a teacher may teach 5-7 kids each week. I'm not aware of any in Merida (I haven't looked)... Do a search in Facebook for Homeschool Merida and see what comes up.

It's such a change to hear about illegal immigration in these other countries perpetrated by Americans. Very informative video chock full of information. It paints a very stark picture about how upset foreigners in the US get when the US tries to enforce immigration laws. I enjoy your thought processes and most importantly that you are similar to me in that you understand that occasionally you have to reset things. Or accept that something you thought may not be the reality once you are in it. I too plan on leaving the country in retirement to stretch my dollars and want to do it in Colombia, but again, I'm willing to reset if Colombia doesn't work. Did you do a video on why you left Colombia in favor of Mexico? I'd love to know the more direct reasons. I'll search for yours if it is there.

You must apply at a Mexican consulate in the US (can't do it in Mexico unless you qualify for a couple of special programs they have in place due to Covid). You'll need to check the requirements for the consulate you plan to do the process, as each have different income requirements (not sure why it's not the same across the board)

Not true at all. I imagine some folks are like every where but no one gonna say anything or bother u. Must come see for yourself to believe it. $800 might be tight but doable on a strict budget. But you'll need to meet the residency requirements to stay long-term and 800 isn't enough to do that.

To each his own, but I would rather move to a country where THE PEOPLE LOOK LIKE ME and where my roots originate from. As an African American it makes more sense to me to move to SOME PLACE IN AFRICA. So I’m moving in summer of 2022.

As always, do your research ... Many of the folks I've met who've lived in Africa come out running for all sorts of reasons ... Many weren't welcome by the locals ... Many couldn't adapt/adjust to local cultures and the way they do things ... They totally hated it and didn't get the 5-star treatment because they shared the same look ... Now on the other hand, plenty of others adapted fine and did extremely well... I'd encourage you to do your research well and talk to folks on the ground ... I'd love to hear your perspective after you've been there a year ... I believe there's a place for each of us if we're willing to seek it out. Good luck on your journey.

You do not speak the language... you dont look anything like the natives... you have nothing in common with them culturally at all.... the only advantage Mexico offers is that its close to the states in case the world economy goes to crap and also its not as poor in most cases as certain parts of Afrika.

I visited Kenya in July 2021 for 3 weeks. I had a good experience. I plan to visit more African countries. I also have an African country as my ideal place to relocate to, but I’m keeping my options open. The lack of development and level of poverty I saw opened my eyes. They do not see race the way you see it. They see themselves as tribes. They only experience race when they come to the states. I agree it is best to explore different countries to see which one would be the best fit for you.

My thoughts. In one of your previous videos, you mentioned that you left Colombia because of the strict government rules concerning Covid and the riots occurring at that time. Both Colombia and Mexico have millions that live in utter poverty. Both governments are corrupt and the rich in the countries have taken advantage of the poor for many decades. This is only going to get worse as the world continues to go into the hyper inflationary environment.. You can expect a lot more riots and trouble in most countries in the coming years. The U.S. is no exception! The 1%'s are going to experience the wrath of society upon them live never before.... The point I'm making is that the Mexican government is relatively stable now, but just wait.. No country will escape the inflationary environment that will place tens of millions in poverty..
