Thanks Triggerman for reminding me about this stuff. Sometimes with DIY we overlook the safety aspects. After completing my first restoration 65 GTO I spent few days coughing all sorts of nasty stuff and my nose was clogged with it as well. I used a cheap respirator mask and no eye protection. You are RIGHT about absorption of chemicals into the membranes of the eyes. I taught paint shop safety for about 20 years while working for the state DNR. I used to tell guys who were not using proper protection that they were going to get a "PHD" from doing that. I'd ask them if they knew what a PHD was, and they'd always look at me really confused, and say "no sir". Then I would tell them "a PHD stands for PERMANENT HEAD DAMAGE. That's what's going to happen if you keep exposing yourself to diisocyanate (the activator in clear), because it's a nerve damaging agent and once you're messed up, it's irreversible". They started using their gear after that point 😂😂
Good man, glad they listened. I'm sure you saved lots of guys from damaging their bodies. It's a rewarding trade but can come at a cost if not done safely. Thank you man. I really appreciate your input. 🫡
Thanks for the info and bringing it to the forefront. - especially to the DYI. As a reminder, make sure you use the correct filters for paint. I see some TH-camrs use a mask with the wrong filters thinking that they're protecting themselves, along with no eye protection. Great video Triggerman! I too have lost alot of friends and coworkers to cancer. Male and female. Absorption and inhalation are the root causes. I useto live reckless too. Sanded, primed and painted without any PPE. No gloves, coveralls, respirator or dust masks. Cleaning my hands with thinners, reducers or alcohol to remove whatever came in contact with my skin. I agree with you on whatever respirator works for you. Use it. I too have used all types of respirators. I useto have a 3M version of the mask that now fits your needs. My issue with them are I'm blind as a bat without my glasses. Lol. The prescription inserts will always fog up. My prescription glasses would always break the seal around my face no matter how tight the straps are. You're right about the versaflo helmet. It's not for everyone. I only use mines for sanding. I use the disposable paper papr hoods. So much lighter.

Unfortunately the three guys I know that were spraying recklessly They didn't even make it to cancer They went straight to Oregon failure kidneys liver failed all of their limbs and face tripled in size that was horrible and this was an immediate result of no mask and or limited protection. It was awful 1 of the guys I was in Vocational school with that one hurt the worst. And like you said when I was younger did stupid shit not knowing the extent of the damage that can be done. Luckily we lived long enough to make some changes before it's too late. 🧡💪🏼

@@rawhidewesthoggers6310 as far as I know they are specific to their brand of filters. But there could be aftermarket cartridges. Not sure on that. But 3M filters do not fit.
@@thetriggerman954 thank you for the quick reply. I too, have painted cars for about 30 years. I’ve used all sorts of full face masks, including forced air masks. I’ve had a tendency to fall back on the 3 M, due to the accessories being readily available through my job. However, I’m always down to try something new and quite frankly less expensive.
@@rawhidewesthoggers6310 I agree 💯 I always use the 3M because I can get the cartridges everywhere. I asked my rep if he can just order me replacements for my mask biweekly so I'll always have a fresh set. But we'll see how that goes.
I recently bought one (Xplore 5500) but hadn't realised they did a version with glass. Mine is plexiglass. I might see if Drager can supply a glass visor because I think they can be swapped out. The thing that concerns me somewhat is knowing how often to change the filters...
I have that 3m full face also, but got the tear offs too late. Do you have a suggestion on what to use to clean off the shield? I'm afraid to use lacquer thinner or acetone. Thanks! I'll probably have to grab this drager, when I can.

Went by his home a few months later and his wife said that he passed. Little kids running around the house. It's horrible man.
I'm not sure bro, only place I see it being an issue is where the lenses go to your ear, but that double rubber seal is strong so it might give you a good seal.
@@gregoryjowers3629 my normal mask I wear is 402 grams this one was like 490 grams I said it in the video I forget the exacts at the moment but it's not much heavier than the half mask. Same thing with me. I always Smell a slight bit of paint which is always in the back of my head. So glad I found this mask. I can't smell anything with this even with the beard.
OK, now say, "Luke, I am your Father!" so we can see how you sound in it. 😁😆 You're right about the eyes as a point of entry. Isocyanates in the hardener seek out moisture to complete the catalyzation process, and the eyes are right there, front and center in the vapor cloud coming off the gun. All too often I grab a half mask and think to myself, "Ehhh...it's just a small job. No need to break out the full face." Not good tho. Same during mixing, you can even smell the difference in the paint once it's catalyzed, and before you pour it into the cup. Definitely not good stuff to breathe. 😵😵💫😧

This video really has me thinking I’ve noticed I always feel like crap after spraying clear. I also wear reading glasses it would be nice to have a mask to cover my glasses following the wet line without them on sucks! I would think as long as the respirator part seal good a little leakage around the glasses arms would be okay?
@@timhudson8958 this rubber seal on this mask is so strong it's hard to explain how sealed this thing is. It's the first mask that completely seals my beard and I smell absolutely nothing. Are the filters interchangeable with other brands or are they proprietary to that mask only?
Wonder if the eye absorption is why I feel a bit high after spraying. LOL Reminds me of drugs in movie Looper.
It's definitely why. It's like drinking alcohol/ chemical same thing
I recently bought one (Xplore 5500) but hadn't realised they did a version with glass. Mine is plexiglass. I might see if Drager can supply a glass visor because I think they can be swapped out. The thing that concerns me somewhat is knowing how often to change the filters...
Yes they can be swapped out. Contact the customer service and get the right part number but it definitely can be swapped out.
Very clear!
@@v65wings45 extremely 😉💪🏼💪🏼
I have that 3m full face also, but got the tear offs too late. Do you have a suggestion on what to use to clean off the shield? I'm afraid to use lacquer thinner or acetone.
Thanks!
I'll probably have to grab this drager, when I can.
Nothing can clean that plastic. I've ruined maybe three of them I tried everything from compound, reducer, rubbing alcohol nothing works. Maybe a subscriber has had better luck and can chime in here. ANYBODY???
@@funfun8095 I’ve had nothing work on plastic for me, but maybe you could try clear coating like you would a set of headlights🤣
@@thetriggerman954 Thanks, man. That's what I figured. So, this drager will be safe against isocyanates?
@@bundy9026 👍
@@funfun8095 If it is already ruined, maybe try a headlight restoring compound or even toothpaste(pick your own flavor) to see if it works. Try a corner where not in your direct vision.
HELL YES MAN, good of you to warn people at the end to mention what happens to the "cowboys" out there who don't mask up when shooting! They pay the ultimate price after years of exposure!
Thank you sir, crazy thing is one of the guys it didn't even take him a year, he started painting and within a year organs failed. Kidneys and liver he swole up 3 times the size as his normal self. Last time I saw him it was walking out of a home Depot in Fort Lauderdale I could barely recognize him I was like "wyclef" is that you He can barely speak I said the paint is killing him. Went by his home a few months later and his wife said that he passed. Little kids running around the house. It's horrible man.
@@thetriggerman954 oh damn... that's very sad. Sorry to hear that. Stories like that remind us we gotta be safe. It's definitely not worth the risk.

One thing that I believe wasn't mentioned is it comes in two versions, plastic or glass lens with the glass one around $100 more.
The link in left is for the glass version.
Yo I worked with you at Phil Smith didn't know this was your page
Addline with the white Chevy? Zoe? 🤔🧐
Wonder how it works for us eyeglass wearing painters?
Maybe I should put on some glasses and try it 🤔
Please do. So many of us have glasses, and have struggled with sealing. @thetriggerman954
Did you put clear on the car before you put on base
🤦🏼♂️ no sir. Lol
Do you think the mask will fit prescription glasses?
I'm not sure bro, only place I see it being an issue is where the lenses go to your ear, but that double rubber seal is strong so it might give you a good seal.
Great video, thanks for the information 👍✔️
Appreciate that! Glad you got something out of it. 🙏
Nice looking mask…
💪🏼🫡
Hey trigger, how does that seal around your beard?
Sealed completely. First mask that I actually smell zero fumes. That rubber material is a lot stronger than the normal silicone stuff.
Nice full face mask is it heavy vs half mask… later trigger
@@gregoryjowers3629 my normal mask I wear is 402 grams this one was like 490 grams I said it in the video I forget the exacts at the moment but it's not much heavier than the half mask. Some guys complain and say some spray guns are heavy so I guess it depends on the guy. It's not heavy at all for me. Especially when it's strapped to your face. It doesn't feel like it wants to pull your head forward or anything.
@@thetriggerman954 well explained I wear one every now and then at work I have always wear 3m pro half mask but your right about your eyes.i took several safety classes one instructor was asked could you get aids from a person accidentally spit while talking or sneezing and they had hiv and it got in your eyes could you get hiv and he said it was possible cause your fluid around your eyes can absorb at a faster rate he explained to us which was 20yrs ago
Will it work with glasses?
Yes there is a link in the description for the lens kit
Dragger needs to make a cleanable neoprene paint suit. like a scuba suit, but not to tight
You might want to drop that in their suggestion box 🤣
How much does it cost?
@@MissionaryForMexico link in the description I think it was $280 something like that.
Great video bro

Hi Trigger i have a 3m mask but i feel it does not seal good enough since i have a little beard. And i smell the paint.
Same thing with me. I always Smell a slight bit of paint which is always in the back of my head. So glad I found this mask. I can't smell anything with this even with the beard.

I have a mask like that off ebay is that the sagola extreme 4600 1.3
It's not the extreme, it's the newer Sagola 4600 base and clear gun
what filters work on the mask
It's all in the link in the video description
I was wondering if any of the aftermarket filters would fit
OK, now say, "Luke, I am your Father!" so we can see how you sound in it. 😁😆
You're right about the eyes as a point of entry. 😵😵💫😧
My main man Beach City in the house. Yea man I've done that countless times. Just a quickly let me just throw this half mask on our better yet hold my breath while I put a coat on. I think we're all guilty to some extent. Thanks for chiming in brother 👊🏼

It's night and day from those regular silicone masks. This is the same material that are on the firefighters and first responders masks. It's night and day bro. So I would think that the thin part of the glasses that go around your ear would be sealed pretty good.
