This has brought so much memories. When we were little and used to visit villages, had seen these for grinding different types of pulses and grains. Love your work!!!

In my opinion, this piece would have been better off if it had been treated to a more sympathetic restoration. All the story was lost. If a person wanted to show off their heritage technology, they could have made a new mortar and then displayed it, as new. This piece could have then been shown next to it and the heritage would be preserved.
@@Cleanup01 Perhaps you might a few minutes to consider my intentions. I value your heritage and skills. You could have more viewers and subscribers if you consider preserving the past instead of erasing it with something shiny and new. I like patina and I also like art. I realize that my feelings are not your responsibility and that how you perform your work is entirely up to you. Thank you for such a powerful video.
Can you imagine being the one who carved this out of a single log? How old is it? Even with modern tools, the material selection and carving would take a long time. The poor thing sucked in that beeswax like a sponge! I’m glad it’s being displayed.
Interesting techniques. I might have wanted to put a bowtie inset joint between the two larger cracks, but epoxy worked well. What kind of wood is this? (Kia ora from Aotearoa New Zealand
MY DEAR GOD .... HOW MANY HUNDREDS OF YRS......DID THAT SINGLE MORTAR/PESTAL FEED PPL IN YOUR COUNTRY !!!!! thank you for preserving it !!!!! its gorgeous !!! even if you didnt do anything else but fill in the cracks.. it still would have been gorgous !!!! great save !!!!!!
Sorry, you did a bad bad chop job on that beautiful antique. Super glue.... are you kidding me? Wood glue. Unless you know what you are doing just don't do anything to it. You don’t jam more wood into splits it pushes the wood further apart. Wow shocking.
Are people still using this mortar to stamp the rice? If not then it is a pity that it losts most of its original character. However if they still will use it then it is a good restoration . But it does concern me that you are working with rusty parts without gloves on. You must either get a tetanus vaccination or wear gloves because lock jaw is an agonizing death. Keep well, take care of yourself and thank you for sharing this with us.
While i can understand all the criticisms on using acrylic, from a functional point of view, all those cracks and the plastic bag fillers would have been a dietary nightmare. At least this way it is functional and hygienic.
The second the sander was taken to it, it was destroyed. If you want a new one, build one. If you want a story, a history, leave it be. This wasn't a restoration.
Felicidades, una restauración PERFECTA.

Agree, all the history and the work of the original maker was sanded away.
Thank you. It is being preserved as a souvenir

This is Vietnamese apitong wood
Yes i was thinking the same thing. He could have filled in the gaps with the epoxy or even gone with something artistic like a coloured epoxy
What country you are staying ? I am from Thailand and very get use to the rice mortar that I used when Ii was young 60 years ago.
Hello. I come from Vietnam
Very nice. Will they be for display only, or will they be used once again?
It will be displayed as a souvenir. Have a good day.

Thanks ❤️
Super jest ten cały szpitalny nocnik odrestaurowany Pozdrawiam serdecznie 👍👍👍👍

Tôi sử dụng dung dịch tẩy gỗ Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2).
A very unusual object.
This is an ancient rice mortar
But not really furniture. 😁
For making mochi
...Should have just cleaned it up and saved it as an artifact.
Thank you . Next time I will try to learn from experience.
Meh it's just an opinion, you do you.@@Cleanup01

Buono l'impegno, cattivo risultato.
Mi impegnerò di più
The wood looked as if it was petrified! Must have a of of age to it!!
Yes. It's been around for a long time.

Once again thank you for your attention. This mortar is now displayed as a souvenir and is no longer used. Wishing you good health.

Thank you for your feedback. The mortar was used as a display item and is no longer in use.
Brasil muit😢prazer!
Hello
Should have used wood filler instead of epoxy for a more sympathetic restotation
Thank you for your opinion.
Sawdust + epoxy = wood filler

Thank you for your opinion
A little to much epoxy for my liking but each to there own.
Đưa toàn hóa chất tẩy rửa rồi cho gạo giã rồi ăn vào ghê vậy trời.
Nó được trưng bày làm kỷ niệm chứ không sử dụng nữa thưa ngài
What a lovely old thing. I suspect it will need “feeding” with a lot more wax and oil yet, again
Thank you, It has been displayed as a souvenir
Il a perdu son authenticité
Pourquoi pensez-vous cela

Thank you, I will learn from your experience
Opino que ha perdido carácter.
Hay que quitar la madera podrida.
Did no one notice the giant cockroach
Sorry for kicking him out of his residence
Meh could’ve used epoxy in the cracks
I am using epoxy to fill the cracks
It looks good. I'm sad you ruined it and took away all of its character.
Thank you, I will learn from it
@@Cleanup01 I meant it though. It looks really good and I would be happy to own it.
@@oldhamegg Thank you for liking it
Oh goodness look at the cockroach!
No when you use it again it will break again 👎
now to display as a souvenir for you
I did wonder about that. With the use of epoxy and not wood and wood glue.
Still I'm not the expert.
