We all have different experiences and memories and I guess that, like us all, bands can have an off day/night..sorry for you if that was your experience. Saw these guys at Thebarton Town Hall in Adelaide and again at Horden Pavilion in Sydney .. both shows were great but I went to both shows with a mindset to enjoy myself which helps. Memories are personal and I’m a ‘happy man’ that the Sunnyboys gave me some good ones
I found their Real Live cassette in my dad's glovebox when I was 15 and listened to it on repeat for the entire school holidays. Now I'm 30 and still love it!
Always loved them and the Church - some stories over the years from Steve (Kilbey) make it sound as though he didn't like them very much though :) Can't wait for the new Church LP
I first came to Sydney in the early to mid 80s..........the Sunnyboys, The Hoodoo Gurus, Hunters & Collectors & Paul Kelly, Spy v Spy all blew my mind.............. as did The Allnighters & Strange Tennants......the Sydney pub music scene was awesome.
I arrived in Sydney in 85’ .. lived in Ultimo, worked CBD and partied from Darlinghurst to Surry Hills to Newtown. Saw all those bands and enjoyed the scene they created .. Spy’s were fav live band but so many others were awesome also. I walked into Hopetoun hotel (before it become a pretentious shithole) after work one day and ordered a beer .. sidled up at the bar was Paul Kelly .. I introduced myself and we chatted for an hour or so (turns out we were both originally from Adelaide and even same suburb .. Norwood).. apparently he was living nearby to the pub and it was his local at the time … top bloke and our greatest storyteller. Definitely the best lyricist I know of. Never saw him in there again though haha
it was better when you could go out and see bands like this at your local for a few dollars biggest issue then was to many great bands not enough time oh gee what a hassle made me a happy man though
I was a good mate of Tim Oxley one of the younger brothers, playing junior golf at Tweed 1 Saturday morning he told me his brothers had a band and their new song was going to premiere on a music show that morning , went home and watched it and became a fan instantly , told my mates at school and became our favourite band Tim even gave me a tape of a studio session of unreleased songs never heard before , wish i still had it 😒 anyway 40 years later still love the music and it will never get old ✌
Glad to see recent comments, you guys inspire me and know that my teenage boys are at this time discovering the cream of raw Australian genius, thank you !
Sitting here in my room The whole damn thing is coming down on me Gotta straighten out, find an answer to my prayer, oh yeah Well everything looks so grand From the position I stand, yeah Stop that sound can't you leave me alone try to understand me now I've gotta hang up I can't communicate I've gotta hang up But I'm a happy man Memories of you tearing me apart I think I'm swimming in a sea of doubt now, yeah I get so uptight I keep on telephoning up now, well alright I have gotta hang up I can't communicate I have gotta hang up But I'm a happy man
Sunnyboys where very hip underground band from Melbourne playing at sell out venues and pubs they where not a real commercial band They where very cool
Japanese have awesome music taste! Still remember being in a Tokyo microbar and picking some music out - the owner only had The Clash. A happy night...
This is my all time favourite song and that’s big cause I listen to the eagle’s AC/DC Australian crawl America red hot chilli peppers John prine and like 32 others
Jeremy Oxley is so good - I could be listening to the current pop charts, but guess what? There is nothing like this - thats why I don't listen to the charts, because this is so good! - Live Long Sunnyboys!
iggy did self titled song on party from 1981 too! i play a non reverse firebird.. how cool these came up in my recommendations! never heard about this.
According to wikipedia "Sunnyboys are an Australian power pop band formed in Sydney in 1979. Fronted by singer-songwriter, guitarist Jeremy Oxley, the band "breathed some freshness and vitality into the divergent Sydney scene"
Top song! Used to have it going around in my head, not knowing who sang it, till one day I was paying attention on Triple J at the end of the song the woman said it was "Happy Man" by the Sunnyboys.... whoa, I didn't realize, a band I had seen at the local pub!
Gee whizz, I had forgotten this song, but not the band. Why isn't there at least a million views? This is brilliant ahead of it's time rock. Their best I love it!
Yet another Australian band pulls down all third party clips of the same song (most of which are remastered by people like me in 1920x1080 with new remastered audio) and replace it with a poor sounding 640 x 480 version. I am happy to supply you with my version free of charge to replace this one, if you are genuinely interested please contact me via my TH-cam profile. I don't make any money out of what I do, just a fan of Australian music.
Saw these guys live in early 80’s and were awesome. I’m 60 now and their first album is still on my playlists
in my 60s, still got my vinyl, but they were shit live, stood there like statues , worse than the Brewster boys from the Angels

Best start to a song since Friday on my mind
Great band! Was nuts about them when I was a teen and still listening to them 40 years later.
How I loved this album, I can’t imagine how many times I sat on the floor of my bedroom and played this over and over, and yes I’m a happy man.
Watching the doco on Jeremy.
Ripping my heart apart as I feel his pain and think of my own battles with the black dog
this band is the reason I play music!
I’ve listened to these guys since I was about 13-14 years old and I’m now 52 😆😁

One of the best Australian rock bands ever produced. Loved the when I was 20 and still love them 30 years later.

Just kids , Jeremy, aged 20 in 1981, a lyrical and musical genius and the band, a master of their craft. Get some Fun!
Just geeking out over the guitars.

New years eve at Kingy Pub................ 17 years old then!!!!!! 42 years ago
The waves at Kingscliff were often good, but the music ALWAYS good thanks to Jeremy and Pete.
Those WERE the days...
i love that we’re in an era where you can search up music from almost any time period!
